Beautiful Scenery

The drive out to the Powles Head Lighthouse is very scenic. In fact the who Trepassey area is so beautiful. Great views from the lighthouse.

Beautiful spot

It is a rather long drive on a dirt road with many potholes to get to this neat little lighthouse but both the beautiful drive and scenery at the end of the Road makes it worth the effort.

fantastic view, part dirt road, but its ok for cars... worth the 10min drive

We drove over to the lighthouse, turn off the highway at the edge of avalon inn, drive over the breakwater and take the center of the three road fork... dont worry if you get lost, the other two roads are about 200ft long... and you might make some friends... the road turns to dirt, but even a low rider car can make it no problem.... stop along the way and take a walk, nice scenery, crazy rocks.... on the drive my wife even did the " In my Feelings Kiki Dance "... great views and scenery

Nice little lighthouse

Not a huge lighthouse, but still a nice spot to go if you are a lighthouse lover. The gravel road had a few potholes (it wasn't in as good a condition as the road to the Cape Pine lighthouse). Since I was there about 10 years ago they have put a huge electricity pole near the lighthouse. This makes getting a good shot of the lighthouse tricky.

World's End

We had the point all to ourselves.. this a great place to go at sunset. Don't expect museums and interpretive panels here - it's just you, the birds, the lighthouse, and the sea.

Lighthouse Keeper

Met with the old Lighthouse Keeper (47 yrs.) and he is still on the site, even though the light is now automated.

rugged terrain

This lighthouse will give you a feel of how the people that cared for and monitored the lighthouse back in the day. It's a quick visit but worth the drive out. Very rugged terrain, with waves crashing below and if your lucky you may see some life in the sea. We saw a seal fighting the waves on our visit.. Pending the day- Hang onto your hat.. :)

Beautiful, peaceful place

I had the amazing opportunity to stay out at the lighthouse for a week as my partner's father was the lighthouse keeper for decades. The lighthouse is now automated, but the family still lives On the property. The road leading up to the lighthouse is bumpy but, as with all the other lighthouses in the area it is worth the drive for the views at the end. We never saw any moose, but saw whales about 20 feet from shore, seals, and some foxes.

Powles Head Lighthouse... add to your list of 'things to do' on the Irish Loop

Powles Head is steeped in history dating back to 1863. The scenery is spectacular! Don't miss this drive (only 5 km) from Trepassey. You may even see some moose....

quiet little lighthouse

Nothing too special about this lighthouse. It's not open for tours. It sits on the edge of a cliff which makes for a good picture, but I wouldn't make a point to go to this lighthouse if it's not on the way.

Spectacular Views

Lighthouse keeper " Russell " invited us to come in to the property when he was returning from his morning walk on the road in. He gave us an excellent tour and explanation of the property. Seals were viewed in the waters below for quite some time.
