Wonderful views
Great location within the Village. You can walk anywhere. We came in early May, not knowing that the Village was still closed to an extent. We enjoyed how quiet it was because there were very few people. Every thing starts opening on the May long weekend. The room was spacious, clean with a comfy bed and awesome tub with great pressure. They had a small coffee maker, microwave and bar fridge. There was only one very expensive restaurant available for all meals. There is a subway and small store. Next time I will plan to bring more meals from home to keep the cost down and to enjoy more picnics. There is no diesel in the village so come prepared.
Book with them not Booking.com
First things first. Cale at the front desk is the reason this rating is being made. What could have been a lot lower was made good due to his understanding and flexibility. Thanks Cale!!! Our room is great. Cale is obviously used to issues from Booking.com.
No A / C and Overpriced
Stayed here in June 2021. Booking was done online. Check in was easy enough. The rooms are dated (the gold keys from the 70's are cool though!) and they do not have air conditioning. The rooms get sweltering hot and they are extremely difficult to cool down. Our room was around 26-27 degrees Celsius at 10 o'clock at night. I would not stay here again. I had a rather peculiar experience with this hotel; they put the transactions through as two separate billings. The second billing was flagged by my credit card company as fraudulent so they froze the transaction. When I got back from vacation, I had voicemails from the hotel and the last one said they were contacting me before (criminally) " charging " me. The total cost of our room was around $700 for two nights. I didn't think it was worth the money given their was no housekeeping, TV, or 24 hour front desk coverage. It's the little things this hotel doesn't do that made this trip disappointing.
It's good!!
Stayed here recently! Let me start by saying- I liked the location, close to all the amenities. Walking distance to the Marina / lake, 10 min walk to Cameron falls. You get a 10% discount if you dine at Vimmy's bar & grill. The accommodation is basic - we chose a deluxe room with 2 queens. The room is dated, but clean- good sized room with a microwave & Coffee Maker. Free Parking is available outside your room. We had a key to enter our room (I haven't seen a key being used for over 10 years!!) But again this is Waterton….. it's not Banff, so we didn't expect anything fancy, most of the hotels in Waterton are Motel Style. The staff were polite and friendly! All in all, I think this hotel is good, we were here only for 1 night, will probably book it again, when I come and visit Waterton again in a few months.
Pretty Good For Waterton
We stayed for three nights in July. Booking was good as was pre-arrival communication. Arrival was friendly and efficient. We had a " Superior Suite " on the first floor of west wing of the main two-storey building (there are other " cottage " style accommodations on site). The double room with kitchenette was a bit dated but clean. The floor was laminate. The smallish nice bathroom had been updated. The room was 56 sq. meters. Furniture included a dining table and 4 chairs, two queen beds, one night table, an armchair and a 3 drawer bureau with the TV on top. The beds were comfortable. There was a 1.5 meter wide clothes alcove with shelf, rod and hangers, and an iron and ironing board. All cutlery and crockery were provided along with dishwashing liquid, but no dishcloth or dish towels- but we had our own. Fridge and stove were newer and full sized. There was no range hood. The fridge had no ice cube trays but ice was available in the lobby. A toaster was missing but one was later provided. There was a small 5 cup coffeemaker that took coffee pads (coffee pads, sugar and powdered creamer provided at front desk). It took small-sized basket filters though, so we bought some and used our own ground coffee. There was one low speed ceiling fan and an oscillating stand fan. The TV got only 4 channels. A DVD player was available at the front desk. We recommend you take some DVD's. Our room door faced east and opened into the kitchen. There was no front window. There was one good sized casement window on the back west wall. The room was warm since there was no cross ventilation and no air conditioning. Another drawback was the window faced the place next door and a 5 meter grass strip that the next door hotel residents used a lot; they walked right by the window and could look in. Closing the curtains for privacy really muffled any airflow. Some sheer curtains would have helped. You could hear the people walking in the room above but they were quiet enough at night. There were wooden cottage-style chairs outside the rooms on the main floor and second floor balcony but not enough for everyone. Guests move them around so you might have to retrieve one or two. Importantly the hotel internet in the room was very intermittent. We sadly rate it overall as poor. It worked OK outside the room though - and was useable there if you had a lawn chair. The staff were all friendly, polite, professional and anxious to please. The hotel is probably representative of its price range in Waterton. We recommend it as a reasonably good place to stay in the park village. Also we recommend a second floor room for privacy particularly when you open the window.
Would not go back
The cleanliness of our room was unacceptable during normal times let alone during a Pandemic, thankfully we brought our own cleaning supplies. There were long strands of hair (8 " +) in the shower and sink and the sitting area outside our room was littered with cigarette butts. The room had a wooden floor and I highly doubt it has ever seen a broom or mop. I would not recommend staying here.
PAPER THIN WALLS - Be Warned
We are currently staying here this weekend (my wife and our two little girls both under 3 years) and let me tell you we won't be getting any sleep tonight! Our girls are usually both asleep by 8-8:30 and here we at 10:00 pm and they're both wide awake from the noise on the other side of the wall. We can hear almost every word from the people next to us and I don't think they're even being that loud. Really not expecting this weekend to go as planned as a poor night sleep for little kids is a recipe for tantrums all weekend long.
Outright winner of the WORST accomodation out of our 10 motels we stayed in. AVIOD BIG TIME
We toured 3000 miles & 44 days in BC & Alberta. We stayed in 10 motels along the way most of them were ok in varying degrees. However The Aspen Village has won the double gold medal for the worst overall Motel in all of Alberta & beyond. HERE's WHY!! The whole point of booking any accommodation anywhere in the world is to get a good night's sleep, that is a major problem at this motel, BECAUSE. Our Queen size bed was too soft, spongy & gave little or no support what so ever giving us a sleepless night & a bad back in the morning culminating in shorter sight seeing day because of discomfort & lack of sleep. The quilt was winter waight meaning it was far too warm for summer. Also the pillows were too soft so in effect two wasn't enough & 3 was too many. The fridge was in front of our bed & was too noisy. A light bulb had blown in a lamp stand which house keeping replaced however they initially just handed me the replacement light bulb to replace myself, er I don't think so. Which as it turned out I'm glad I didn't because when i went to turn it on, it sparked & knocked out the whole electrical circuit for the whole block. You don't have to be an eltriction to realise thier electics have serious health & safety issues. Considering its £150 per night they don't include breakfast which many of the other Motels we stayed at did give you a complemtary breakfast. On top of all that because Waterton is seriously out of your way to drive there, what the tourist boards neglected to mention there was a serious massive forrest fire two years ago renering many walking & sight seeing trails closed. The only high point was we came within 5 feet of a fully grown Grizzly bear that decieded we weren't on his menu that day, so he just walked away. Close call or what? Would I recommend this place to you. er-NO BIG TIME. Any other Motel cannot possibly be as inferior, diabolical & dire as this in my opinion. A special note for the management as they read & comment on all reviews. Tell me Mr manager do you think you have got this recipy right? Further more if we didn't like it what's the chances of other tourist liking it who's paying your wages? or have I got this completely wrong?
Bof
Take your own towels !
I recently stayed 2 nights at Aspen Village in Waterton. The room was average - the bathroom had been updated but the most disappointing part of the stay was the fact that, because there was a small amount of makeup on the washcloth and one hand towel, I was charged an extra $20 for " deep cleaning ". They need to upgrade their laundry facilities for something as basic as makeup removal. It would have been different if I had used the cloth to wipe my shoes, clean the floor or soak up red wine that had been spilled. Very disappointing.
Room was fine but
I spent a couple days at Aspen Village this last week. The room was fine but I was totally shocked when I got home and had an email from Aspen Village advising I was being charged an additional $20 for stains on 3 towels (actually it was a bit of makeup on 2 facecloths and one hand towel). I could understand if it was red wine or if I had used the towels to shine my shoes. Apparently their laundry facilities are insufficient to do simple cleaning to remove a slight bit of makeup.. so I advise you to take your own towels if you decide to stay at Aspen Village. Very disappointing.
Updated, Clean & Great Location
We stayed in 1 of the duplex kitchenettes & were very pleased! It was spacious enough for 2, very clean, kitchenette had everything we needed & it was in a great location; walking distance to everywhere! Staff were very nice & if anything was needed they responded promptly!
All in all a positive experiance
Disappointed
The rooms have no air conditioning. We had to ask for a fan, which was provided. Otherwise it would have been unbearable. There was quite a bit of hair left on bath / shower wall and a dirty bathtub ring. We had to report this twice before a housekeeper came and cleaned the tub. We had a dirty tub the first night. It is a shame to pay a premium price for a room that you have to make numerous requests for solutions to problems. I have never seen anything like this!! Not fun to have to report problems on a vacation. The only reason I gave it a 2 rating is that the beds where comfortable and the location is good.
TRANQUILO
A great mult family get together
Good restaurant great outdoor bbq area 2 naturaĺ gas bbq s next door to weiner of Watertown very central locatìòn walking distant ĺakè cuirse liquor store has a gym next door eexcellent view of moutians parking on street and in back
Nightmare of a hotel
This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The owners are very clearly taking advantage of the busy summer season by charging outlandish rates for a sub-class hotel. They should be ashamed. The carpet was so disgustingly dirty it left our feet dirty just walking a bit on it. Stains on the carpet, walls, tub, cracks in walls, chipped paint and tiles, dirty furniture and drapes, stench in the air, and no a / c. A blind person could decorate a room more tastefully. This hotel is not worth anybody's money. Don't stay here. Ever.
Not Flash
Room 10, ground floor under the staircase, (seen in photo with Deer in front) was fairly expensive, however it was the first week of June so prices were probably jacaked up for summer and it is located right in the centre of town. Park in front of room, heating, soft beds and pillows, check-in quick and easy. The room had been cleaned and the linen was fresh. No 10 is badly in need of a makeover to replace old fashioned wood panelling, old and mismatched furniture and fittings. Inside was clean but outside the door (our " balcony " area, with chair) was dirty, with cigarette butts and an old rubbish bag. Nevertheless, we did enjoy our one night stay because it was cold and raining and we were warm within the room.
Great visit to Waterton
Had an opportunity to visit Waterton Lakes National Park this weekend and stayed at Aspen Village. Very friendly and helpful staff. Stayed in a ground floor room in the main building and other than no A / C it was a great room, the beds were comfortable and the room was very clean and organized. Will definitely check this hotel for vacancies next time I visit Waterton.
Great location, needs updating
This place has a great location, you can walk everywhere & there's plenty of parking. We were assigned to the 3rd tier, no elevator. The room was small but adequate, a mini fridge & microwave, no kitchen type supplies though. I had to ask for tissues & extra roll of toilet paper. The carpet was disgustingly stained & dirty. I commented to staff & was told rooms are slowly being updated. They gave us a discount. The best thing about aspen village is the location. For the price charged I think a breakfast voucher should have been included to a local eatery.
Unangenehme Ueberraschung
Perfect Canada 150 Weekend
We came in Friday to Monday for the long weekend. We had a very nice time with none of the issues mentioned in other posts. We had two newly renovated cabins each had sleeping for six including a separate king bedroom and a nicely finished kitchen with full sized stove and fridge. Outside area is great we used both the picnic tables and the BBQ grills. Kids enjoyed the deer that visited all weekend. Appreciated the off street parking on a busy weekend. Convenient walking distance to main streets and marina.
Very very basic and overpriced.
I stayed at Aspen Village recently while visiting the stunning Waterton Lakes National Park. The hotel is very basic and needs some refurbishments or updating out of the 1970s. I stayed for one night on Friday in June 17 and the total price of my stay was roughly £135 (British Sterling) $216 (Canadian Dollars). For that you get a very basic hotel with old and out dated room fittings. I'm sure the cleaners do a wonderful job however the carpet is that old you'd never get it clean. The surrounding area outside the village also looks very tatty. I stayed at 3 different hotels while in Waterton Park and this was the most expensive and the worst out of all 3. If you have basic requirements and don't mind being over priced for those requirements then this is the hotel for you. I can't however fault Waterton National Park, the place is stunning.
Ridiculously Overpriced!
Definition of tourist trap. Luxury prices for cheap motel quality rooms. There is a reason it is the last place to book up on popular weekends. I went for a Father's day trip with my siblings and booked a room for us and a private room for my Dad. Both rooms were old and worn out, the matresses and pillows were uncomfortable, bathrooms had no vanities, showers were low pressure. Great location, but terrible value.
Lovely renovated cottage, great value and service
We had booked in the hotel, but on arrival requested a room on ground floor with access to sit out side. The desk receptionist suggested a cottage, and it was perfect. Newly renovated over the winter, everything was immaculate. Very comfortable king bed, Small kitchenette with pots, dishes, microwave, fridge. All face onto to lawn area, great for pets and children, and a barbecue area. AND it was less than room we had booked. Plus.. .2 min walk to main street and lake . young ladies at reception and housekeeping all friendly and accommodating. I left meds in room, called and they were at desk for pickup when I returned. . nice pool and hot tub across street at sister location . gave coupons for local coffee shop or restaurant for going green... stay two days and don't change bed linens. We were in small cottage. I met a family booked into a deluxe unit with bedroom and full kitchen and larger bath. Both units had All new cabinets, furniture, granite countertops... we were amazed, much better than expected. Book direct with hotel, rates when we checked were lower than booking services. Must visits are the Gust Gallery, and the Prince of Wales Hotel. Good value for breakfast, great views from lounge and dining room. We enjoyed Watertown more than Banff or Lake Louise. Small town, friendly local merchants and in early June no crowds and lower prices. Views are spectacular.
Charming Getaway
Aspen Village is a charming and friendly getaway. I was fortunate enough to get the last room which was in a cute cabin. We played crib at one of the many picnic tables in the gorgeous sunshine with a breathtaking background. I Absolutely loved my stay and highly recommend it.
Good value
Outside this place doesn't look like much but they are currently going through renos. The new rooms look good and have lots of space and decent sized bathrooms. They warn you the internet is slow but really who cares. This hotel is really easy to get to and close to the strip / beach, pool, and the local waterfalls. Only issue is the beds could use replacing but it's not to bad unless you have a bad back. This place is a good value and good location. If you are coming here yo explore the outdoors this place has everything you need. Water, fridge, bed and ac.
Moyen
Taking the Aunties to the Canadian Rockies
We were a party of five in Waterton just past the long weekend so there were not a lot of options. I was worried about Aspen Village after reading the reviews. But we were SO pleasantly surprised by our cabin! It was beautifully renovated, with windows that opened, comfortable beds and excellent service. Of course, we have been visiting Waterton for years and know better than to expect regular city service in the off season or city WI FI service, but that's why we go there! We had one small issue after hours that was rectified right way. My US Aunties loved it and I absolutely recommend the cottages at Aspen Village!
Room for improvements
We were told that the tvs were not working which didn't bother us too much. We were out most of the day. But discovered after a shower, the hair dryer didn't work and there was nobody in the office to till 9am to tell. By then we were ready to leave for the day. Even tho we got a good deal, there is room for improvements.
Fraud or Bankrupt hotel
About 3 weeks ago we booked a night here, to stop in Waterton during our 3 week trip round South West Canada but upon finalising our route and dates we decided to make use of the free cancellation and stop in Waterton on a different day, in a different hotel. The money for the two rooms we booked was taken out almost immediately but after trying their email and telephone number to request a refund, we can't seem to get in touch with them at all. Booking.com are also trying to reach this hotel, to help get to the bottom of this problem but without much luck. I advice anyone looking to stay here to think twice before booking.
trying to get refund for cancelled reservation
I cancelled my reservation well in advance of the cancellation date. They never refunded me the 1st night deposit. They do not answer the phone. They ask you to leave a message but the mailbox is full so no message to leave. I emailed them with no response. Is this a real hotel or fraud? Both numbers 403-859-2255 and 888-859-8669 fail.
Convenient location
We didn't have reservations and ended up getting one of the last available rooms. It was a little dated but clean. The bed was comfortable. It was within walking distance of several restaurants and shops. The room was quiet too.
Canadian Rockies vacation
Aspen Village is well worth the price for a room, comfortable, clean, and close to everything in town. Room was very quiet and welcoming. I would highly recommend staying here if you're on budget but want a nice place to stay.
Oh no, wish it were not so
Over the years I have stayed in Aspen Village a dozen times. The last time I was there was a disaster. There were so many things that went wrong or were not up to anyone expectations that I will not stay there again. That makes me really sad. If you read my previous reviews of Aspen Village i gave it glowing praise. My best guess is there have been a several new managers recently and all the great staff, resources and energy has been siphoned off and redirected to the new sister lodge in Waterton. Whenever I asked for one of the staff I had dealt with they were always at the other office. It made it difficult to solve even the simplest problems. The photo I included with this review was taken in the bathroom. It is of the outlet just above the sink. For me it is a perfect example and representation of my stay. It shows poor workmanship, lack of attention to detail and no regard for the finished space. By itself it is no big deal but coupled with all the other things that were below par you get a picture of a poorly managed and maintained business.
That's it.
Nothing to write home about
I spent two nights here in September 2016 and was quite disappointed, seeing that I paid almost 200$ a night. The building and the rooms are dated, with some mold around the tub and a non-functioning tv. The room smelled old and musty, too, and they didn't even have shower caps, not even when I asked for one at the reception. If this is the only accommodation that is available, I would recommend staying here. Otherwise, no.
Don't Plan to Surf The Web Here
My Dad and I stayed here in October. The room was very average. We were on the bottom floor and had a rowdy group above us. The beds were average. The bathroom seemed clean enough. There were only 9 fuzzy tv channels and the Internet was horrible. The coffee machine in our room did not work after the first cup. Good place to shower and sleep..... nothing else! If you stay there, bring a book! Oh, out of all the places we stayed the two weeks we were out on the road (Montana and Canadian Rockies), this was the most expensive
Loss of sleep
Motel basic, good location for walking to restaurants and waterfront in lovely Waterton. Front desk daytime man not very cordial. Our room was between a large family with members on each side. Noisy until 2 AM resuming at 6 AM. Usual price gouge over Labor Day. Plan trip by researching lowest rates.
Excellent Location
My wife and I stayed our one night in Waterton at the Aspen Village Inn and loved it. The young ladies at check in were very friendly and helpful. The room was quite comfortable and the location was excellent for exploring the town. We feel like we made an excellent choice.
Not coming back
Waterton Lakes National Park got amazing sights. But as for the hotel, it is understandable that the hotel can be outdated as the town is somewhat rustic. However, the filthiness is unacceptable. The tub floor & toilet in the bathroom is disgusting. So disgusting that we had to wear our flipflops while taking a shower. You can see grime from under the toilet brim. Carpets are also unclean. Stuff went inside our room without us requesting them to tidy up the room. So all of our stuff are on the bed, tables, including some of our valuables. They left fresh towels, though. They only took the garbage out from the bathroom, didn't put another garbage bag to replace the used one but the garbage in the kitchen was not taken. There were electrical outlets that has broken covers which are hazardous especially if you've got kids. One of them was on the wall where the dining table is adjacent to. We didn't try reporting our concerns cause we think what the hotel needs is a thorough updating & not just temporary fix.
Disappointing
Dirty room, dishes, few utensils. No hot plate or can opener. Bathtub needed refinishing, ceiling fan noisy and loose. No dish cloth. It was within walking distance. Saw another room which had a new fridge and stove. Little bar fridge on our room needed defrosting and the door fell off
AWFUL wifi and the POOL NOT AVAILABLE =.=
two nights stay supposed to be wonderful if hotels wifi was working good.. also the hotel should give customer notice regarding to availability of their amenities like swimming pool.. because we planned to go to the pool next day, but when we arrived there the staff said its not available : (
Not worth the price
My boyfriend and I planned a long weekend trip to Waterton and when booking accommodations this was the last hotel with availability. We quickly discovered why. Before I get to that, let me list the positives: *view out the window is beautiful - while you are seeing the center of the cottages and some of the parking lot, looking up even more gives you a view of the mountain. *quick walk to everywhere in town *bed is fairly comfortable * the young girls who work at the front desk are happy and helpful * the lobby is warm and inviting * pool and hot tub available for guests to use. Hot tub was a very good temperature! And now the negatives: * our room smelled musty even though the windows were left open (by staff of former resident I'm not sure * the heat / air made more noise than what it provided for comfort * there was dust all over the bathroom counter * bug in the bathroom * hair behind the door, behind the toilet and stuck to the shower wall * mold in the caulking around the tub * bed is old and the mattress cover came up and off the edges every night. Not what you want in a bed that many have slept on. * pool was dated and the entire swimming area was dirty * free wifi - what a joke. It worked only a small portion of the time. All in all, sadly disappointed for the price we paid for this room. We will not stay here again nor would we recommend this place to others to stay.
Nice locally owned establishment
I enjoyed my two nights here. The motel is centrally located within the village and is clean! The room I was in was partially renovated and I was lucky enough to have a mini fridge and micro, which helped to store / heat up leftovers, saving me a bundle on the expensive restaurant prices! The front desk person was very matter of fact and didn't once smile at me or attempt to make conversation, but checkin and checkout was quite easy.
Aspen Village
Aspen Village clean room, king Bed, nice & quiet for sleeping, within walking distance to the lake Shopping & Dinning close walk to Cameron Falls, & to the hiking trails, also enjoy the lake just sitting on the park benches taking in the views of the mountains & the lake
Just one notch above rudimentary
We stayed at this property for two nights. The carpet rooms need significant renovation including floor covering, plumbing and updating of the kitchenette. Our unit was not air-conditioned, and as such was provided with a box-type fan. This old fan made more noise and less air. We asked for a different fan next morning. But the non-verbal communication of the staff at the reception desk (a middle-aged gentleman) appeared to be less than cooperative. The house-cleaning staff just changed a few towels next day, but bid not clean the room and make the beds. The garbage container was not emptied as well. Overall, our experience at this property was pretty poor considering the room rent we paid. I would not recommend this property to any one for staying.
Vacation stay
The location was excellent close to everything the staff were very friendly but the rooms are a bit old but well kept its an ideal place for a vacation. It is an ideal place to relax with family lot of things to do around.
Receptie is vriendelijk.
Central with a kitchenette, good for a family
We booked late in the season and need a place for 3 nights with kitchenette. Vacancies in summer in Waterton are scarce. Room was tidy and some parts have been renovated but floors perhaps need some love. Staff efficient and friendly and great to have access to the pool of their sister property. No complaints.
not worth the price
I begin by giving a 10 / 10 to the young people working at the Village. They are very friendly and efficient. The rooms however are not what one pays for. The carpet is extremely old. Next morning my legs were covered with bites.
Very Dirty Not Worth The Price
Stayed in a one bedroom cottage it was very very dirty! When we got in the room floors were dirty, bathroom was dirty. Had to ask for dish towels and garbage bags bc curtains were broken. Also had to move a night stand and it was beyond disgusting probably hadn't been moved or cleaned in years! I'm not one to write reviews but for $300 a night i shouldn't have to tape up garbage bags in my windows and I was disgusted with how Dirty it was!
Overpriced for the value of room
Carpets weren't clean, TV had one channel, and TV remote had no batteries. Not worth the price for the duration of the stay. Check in time isn't until 4 pm! We also had unsatisfactory customer service. We stayed here for a wedding and had requested an early check in to be able to get ready, and were told they could make that happen if we called ahead. We did that and then showed up to find out we couldn't get in early but to check back later. When we checked back later the manager, without even checking with the cleaning staff, dismissed us, saying " no it's not ready. " It wasn't until a nice girl who worked there, who actually took the time to radio the cleaning staff for us that we felt we were taken care of. She checked in with them for us and found out the room was in fact ready. The room and experience was not worth the price.
Short Waterton visit
Very satisfactory facility to stay in. Clean, quiet, great view of Vimy Mountain to the east from Room 57, very central location, staff most congenial. Rates were totally in line with other Waterton motels. Basic amenities in the room---coffee machine, fridge, microwave, TV----all in working order. Any requests we had of the staff were promptly attended to.
Convenient location and very friendly staffs
The stay at Aspen Village was very nice and pleasant. The staffs were very professional and always willing to help. They gave us details on where to dine, shop and sight seeing. We requested the microwave at check-in and it was brought in almost immediately!
One night at Aspen Village, Waterton Lakes, CA
This is a nice place to stay in Waterton Lakes, AB, CA. I stayed there earlier and the experience has been really good both the times. There are several options of accommodation available here. The property is located close to the main shops as well as the lake. It is a great place to stay and I will love to stay here again in future.
Not the most expensive but great
We enjoyed our stay. The room was very clean, the kitchenet great and there was nothing to complain about. It is not stated when you book, but you are allowed to use the hot top and pool at the rec center. So it is well worth it. Only down side. The front counter staff was kinda unfriendly.
Overpriced but accommodation was available even on long weekend
We stayed in this Inn for one night on 30Th June 2013. This is an overpriced Inn compare to other standard hotels in Canada. Room is large enough with two queen beds. Internet and parking is free. Location is very good. 10 minutes walking from Aspen Village Inn to Cameron Falls and couple of minutes from starting point of lake cruise. Check in is at 4:00pm, check out at 11:00am. Carpet is not clean, and bathroom is not that great. A small size TV with limited (7 or 8) channels. Overall, staying for a night is okay.
NEVER AGAIN!!!
We stayed here 2 nights as part of a tour group. Although the location was good the actual 'hotel' could only be described as an 'annex' to the main hotel across the road. The rooms were in the process of being refurbished, (which reading earlier comments has been ongoing for approx 2yrs!!) we had cracked and broken sockets in the room which also had a assortment of flies! The door to the room we had to slam to ensure it was closed, thus disturbing other residents and to top it all we had a disabled member on our tour but there were NO disabled facilities ie room, available for him. All restaurant facilites had to be taken in the sister hotel across the street as this hotel did not actually have dining facilities. Reception was open 9 - 9 although the info within the room stated it was open until 10 pm, once again it would mean to trip across the road if you had a real problem.
very cozy and pleasant
Waterton is beautiful and refreshing and the Aspen Village Inn was very comfortable and cozy. Great value in the heart of the tiny town.
Overpriced
We stayed at this motel a couple of weeks ago in August 2004 and were very disappointed. The room was $124 (US) and paint / plaster was chipping off the walls. The coffee pot was in need of cleaning and the room could have used an overhaul. The bathroom was very tiny and dated. For this price, one would expect a much better room.
Perfect For Our Needs
We stayed in a " Deluxe 2 Bedroom Suite " September 11 and 12, 2005. The room was clean and comfortable. I also found the staff very friendly. The Aspen is centrally located, close to shopping, dining and the Boat dock. No complaints from us.
Wonderful accommodations
Our family (4 adults) spent one night at one of the deluxe cottages (# 29) which featured a living room and fireplace with a king bed plus another separate bedroom with a queen bed. Living area also included stocked kitchen with dining room table and chairs. Bathroom was spacious with tub / shower. Bedroom window had great view of Prince of Wales Hotel. Everything was very clean and updated and staff was extremely helpful. Location was perfect - very short stroll to the beautiful lake area and downtown shops. Excellent food at The Lamp Post at Kilmorey Lodge, sister hotel to The Aspen Village Inn. Hope to return at some future time for a longer stay and and some day hikes.
Shocked
We go to Waterton every year. This is the worst we have seen. Arrived in the room and pulled back the cover to find the sheets all crumpled up like somebody would leave it if they just got out of bed. the sheets and pillow cases were all dirty form a construction worker that had been renting the room during the week. (the desk clerk told us) The toilet was dirty, the shower curtain was dirty. Couldn't believe that someone would rent a room without checking it first and knowing full well that the room had been used during the week. Love Waterton, will just make sure we get a different place next time.
Great Bargain in Waterton Lakes
We searched for a decent but reasonable place to stay in Waterton Lakes and found most of the places to be very pricey. The Aspen Village Inn looked very good in their website and was reasonable - $147.00, - so we booked it for 2 nites. It turned out to be very good, nice size room, very clean with amenities - coffee pot etc, very comfortable beds and was very clean. The office staff was very welcoming and informative. It was within walking distance of downtown - shops and restaurants - so was very convenient. Would recommend this place to anyone..
Indifferent Staff and Blah Room
To begin with, we couldn't get decent directions to this place. When we arrived, the staff was indifferent to say the least. We got no welcome and a shuffle. I got the impression that it was the end of the season and the staff was just going through the motions. Our room was plain vanilla and obviously very tired. Our departure was equally bad. I strongly suggest that visitors to Waterton find another place to stay.
Shabby
Stayed two nights here while on a Titan Tour and it was a big disappointment. Waterton is a stunningly beautiful place but sadly this hotel is not. It looks tired, and the carpets on the upper landings are so badly laid they are dangerous. Our room had clearly had some refurbishment but the bathroom had strips of paint hanging from the wall and the start of mould growth on the ceiling. No restaurant but meals can be taken in the sister hotel across the road. However breakfast service was painfully slow because only one member of staff was on duty and she was having to do everything. For the rest of our stay we found much better places to eat. The bedroom walls were very thin and on arrival the rooms were very cold. not a good place and Titan should not be using this place for their customers.
Relax at Aspen Village
Visited Waterton NP in July stayed at The Aspen, sister to Kilmorey. Would have preferred the Kilmorey at it has on site facilities restraunt, bar etc. However The Aspen has nice sized rooms well cleaned daily. Relaxed atmosphere. Staff in the reception are very helpful. You can have breakfast delivered or go out to the shops across the street for fresh muffins / croissants and coffee. Had lovely food at The Kilmorey and The Prince Albert.
Too expensive for the services provided
We were a family of 4 adults, reserved the hotel 10 weeks in advance also phoned in three times to clarify the kind of accommodation and bedrooms as we have adult son and daughter and required two separate beds. When the confirmation came it said two queen bedrooms I phoned two advise them to change as that is not what I had requested they advised me that they will give me a unit with two single beds and one queen bed just as I was requesting. Once we got there the person at check in was not very friendly or approachable, he was rude, when we advised him of the error he said he did not know anything different and we had to stay in the two bedroom unit with two queen beds. the unit was quite run down and not value for money. we requested a change of rooms as per our reservation and the person we met next day at reception changed our room for a night. We had to check out every morning and check into another room each evening for three nights, cause they messed up our reservation, so much for a relaxing summer vacation and very expensive.
blast form the past
late check in by 45 min room had " the old smell " decor is dated beds very uncomfortable main door has gap on bottom when with people smoking on the outside.. would drift into the room shower head set for midgets over all we will not stay there again
Surprised
As we planned our trip in a last minute all more affordable hotels have been sold this last weekend. Sunday after we checked out from our expensive and not the best accommodation we looked for another place where to stay one more night.... Aspen Village had a lot of vacant rooms since many of their guest left that day. We got very good help from the receptionist Tia, she was very pleasant and had reserved us a bungalow unit as we went for a boat trip that afternoon. When we got back she showed us the place before we made a decision. The unit was very clean and welcoming. It was a family one with a separated room with a queen bed, living room with two queen beds, sofa, eating area, little kitchen corner with a full size fridge, stove and microwave. We were sorry that we couldn't have spent both nights at this place as it was much nicer, better equipped and needless to say much cheaper too. Their rate was affordable and due to the vacancy we got additional 15% off the bill. We love Waterton Park and when we'll come back Aspen Village Inn is the place to stay in. We had the unit # 32, big enough to accommodate 6.
Well, the location is good.. if nothing else
The proximity to main street was excellent and the reception staff were wonderfully friendly. Beds was comfortable. That is where the compliments have to end I'm afraid. We stayed at the Aspen Village Inn for $134 CAD per night. As with so many other reviews of this hotel, I am in total agreement that the housekeeping staff are horrible. The bathroom was a disaster. One lightbulb of four was functional. Which may explain why houekeeping hadn't noticed the disgusting dark grease ring in the bathtub. I had to clean the tub myself just to feel alright about taking a shower. The shower head is ridiculously low, which suited the kids fine but made it terribly uncomfortable for the adults as we had to duck down to get any water. There was only one washcloth available for all of us. As requested by the hotel, towels etc. that we wanted exchanged were left in the bathtub. However, they were never taken nor exchanged. How lovely it was to come back to our room at the end of a rainy and muddy day of hiking & fishing only to find wet towels from the day before still in the bathtub. How very nice that the room had a little coffee maker but utterly useless as it was broken. And I wonder how housekeeping staff hadn't noticed the subtle stench of urine near that very corner. Possibly because they never have to go near the coffee maker to replace coffee supplies as no one can use them? During the late evening some guests used the common balcony patio area to throw a drunken party. Loud voices, doors slamming over and over, feet pounding up and down the stairs. Now these sort of inconsiderate guests are not the fault of the hotel but it is the hotel's fault for doing nothing to quiet them down for the sake of the other guests who actually wanted to get up early in the morning to explore the beautiful area. I know it's an expensive town and this is one of the cheaper places to stay, but if you care about cleanliness and want a good night's sleep, I suggest finding somewhere else to stay.
Poor value for money paid
The appearance was shoddy outside, the grass needed cutting as dandelions were growing fast. the cottage rooms were no better than a standard motel room. Rubbish bin in bathroom had not been cleared after previous guests. The bathroom needed refurbishment looking tired, room generally a little unkempt. Having said this the beds were very comfortable
Old & Dirty
Will not stay there again unless they do a complete reno from top to bottom as all the furniture in the entire room is from like the 80's. Also, the bathroom was not clean (that's an understatement) and the entire room as a whole was just dusty and dirty. The free WiFi didn't work either. I could go on and on, but this was our first and last time staying there.
Stay In The Cabin Suits!
We travel to Waterton every couple of years for a week. It has been a family tradition to visit Waterton for several generations of our family (even before the townsite was established). Our last stay in July 2014 was at the Aspen Village. This hotel is located close to the village shops and restaurants and close to the surrey rental place (also a must do while in waterton and a family tradition). Our stay at the Aspen village did not start out great as we were put in a room on the second story. The room was dirty and the bathroom hadn't been cleaned between guests as there were black hairs in the shower and on the floor (no doubt from some very harry guy before us ha ha) and the sink hadn't been wiped down. I asked the front desk to move us but they informed me that they were fully booked so I flagged down one of the kids that clean the rooms and had them come in and wipe down the bathroom. I then ran to the grocery across the street and purchased some bleach and cleaned it my self just to be sure. Didn't get much sleep at all that night as the walls are very thin and there was a middle eastern man in the room adjacent talking very loud on the phone ALL night. He seemed to be yelling into the phone at someone. The next morning I requested that we move to one of their Cabin suits as my husband was joining us late and I knew he wouldn't put up with a dirty room and the all night noise. Luckily a cabin suit opened up and we spent the rest of our week there. It had been recently remodeled (last 10 years or so) and was clean enough. It was a large room with two queen beds in the main area shared by a small kitchen and table, and a separate room with a queen or full sized bed (I can't remember which). I believe the nightly rate. This place is a little over priced however Waterton is remote and the lodging is limited so that is to be expected.
Aspen Village cares about money, not guests
We stayed at the Aspen Village lodgings for the August 2015 long weekend. The first day our room did not get cleaned because we had returned to our room at 2:30 p. m. (They hadn't had time to clean it and they went off shift at 5 p. m, so by the time we left again, they didn't have time to clean it). This tells me they do not have enough staff on. The next day they did our rooms, but did not vacuum, put fresh towels in the room, put another roll of toilet paper in, or wash the bathroom floor. Our last night there we were going to relax for the evening and sit outside our cabin door to read. Instead, there was a family reunion outside our door with around 50 people, who took all the picnic tables and chairs, set up a tent, and proceeded to party until almost 11 p. m. The rooms aren't air conditioned, so we had to leave our windows open. The manager just shrugged his shoulders and said the lawn area was open to all guests. He did not care that others were disturbed, he just wanted the money. A BIG disappointment. There was no opportunity to watch the deer and other wildlife come by our room as they often do. We did get to see a squirrel early the next morning, eating on some of the garbage left behind.
Avegage - High Price
This accommodation was average for the $175 price tag per night. The room had 2 queen beds with uncomfortably firm mattress made for a limited sleep experience, and the TV was a large tube style which came with a select few channels, about 10. The location in Waterton on a quiet side street very close to town shops and restaurants. One of the neighbouring homes coming into town had resident deer eating and resting on their lawn. Overall atmosphere of Waterton was welcoming, interesting and a place I would go back to for outdoor activities.
Not clean
Like most motels in Waterton Aspen Village is getting a bit old. Worse than that, though, was the that the room wasn't clean. When we pulled chairs away from the wall to watch tv we found an assortment of food crumbs and an empty grocery bag. The washroom was not adequately cleaned either.
Beautiful mountain setting
We stayed in the family cottage (4 adults, 2 kids). Space is small, but adequate, as spent a lot of time outdoors. This hotel is very centrally located. Wifi is free... but often won't connect. Felt our cottage hadn't been properly prepped prior to our arrival. Stove wasn't working, coffee not stocked and only half a roll of toilet paper! Staff were quick to remedy any problems, but it took us going to the office to ask, rather than them being on top of things. Housekeping was hit and miss. Price was great. A comfortable spot to stay, but could work on their service standards.
Badly managed, could have been much better
Whilst booking, we spoke to a person assumed to be a non-native English speaking individual (not Caucasian). Come to find out (later) she was, but you would never know, as she spoke like she had an appendage in her mouth, if you know what I mean, totally clueless, could not even figure out how to use the debit machine. The worst part is that we had to fight to get the worlds smallest refrigerator put in our room, the coffee maker could fit in your pocket, cheap is not the word. When asking for a microwave, most commonly equipped @ every decent accommodation these days, we were told outright 'no you cannot have one' (we needed this device for our son, to warm up his bottles and food, if nothing else), we ended up having to bring our own. These guys will not allow you to check in until 4pm, super late, after some hassling however, it was agreed we could check in at 3:30pm.. when we arrived we had to wait an extra hour and a bit, the room wasn't ready until 4:40pm, and the invalid at the front desk was none too apologetic about it. When we tried the key we were given for the room, it didn't work, & maintenance had to be summoned to fix the lock. These doors are a nightmare, totally mickey mouse, you have to slam them to shut em' tight, the latch-lock as you might have guessed, is budget, leaving one to worry about larceny the whole while. The hotel itself, aesthetically is not too bad on the exterior, and the rooms are not a far cry from what one should expect, maybe showing a bit of wear and tear (IE peeling paint). I did like the artwork and furniture that adorned the room, although not a fan of the beds, mine didn't even have a boxspring, & the mattress kept tipping off. A saving grace was the cleaning staff, the head cleaner and a few others' were funny and sociable, and did a good job cleaning the rooms. The biggest complaint I have, again, is with the doors. Because you have to slam them, this is what I heard all night. If I didn't take a sleeping pill, there is no way I would have slept (a very serious upgrade is needed). To boot, the idiots under us were noisy, and I informed the manager about it (after hours), the toadie basically chose to do nothing, he wouldn't even answer his phone when I called back. This place is soo badly managed, & sadly it really doesn't need to be this way. Get rid of the lazy / deficient individuals, and get some work done before you go out of business!!! Save your money and book somewhere else if you want and enjoyable stay in Waterton. PS As this hotel resides within' the federal jurisdiction of the national park, it is a farce this place is even open, under these conditions. Health Canada could shut this one down if they wanted to. Can you say government kickbacks?
Clean, spacious and comfortable
We (myself, hub and son) spent one night in one of the cottages. It comprised 3 queen beds (one in a separate room for the snorer!) and a sofa bed, so ample room for up to 8 people! There was also a dining area and full kitchen. Everything was spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfortable. The little town is a joy to stroll around in the evening. There are plenty of curio shops, restaurants and take-out eateries. There was a Subway right opposite our door!
Dated, but roomy and convenient
We had reserved a room with 2 queen beds and got a room (# 55) with a separate bedroom (with Q bed) and another queen bed out in the main area. It made for a spacious room. It also had a couch, which I assume folded out to a bed. This would be a great room for a family. As other reviewers have said, it is outdated. The bedspreads reminded me of grandma's. But that's not bad. The room was clean but the bathroom was tiny! The sink was outside the bathroom in the closet area. This is not always a convenient setup. The hotel is convenient to town. Great for walking around. We loved Waterton Lakes NP, even more then Banff. Great wildlife viewing (lost count of the number of bears). We took the boat ride on the lake and that was glorious. A must do. Back to the hotel, it is very convenient to the laundramat and a subway. The laundramat washers were $3 CAD and they didn't take quarter, have your loonies and toonies ready. (dryers did take quarters) Would we stay there again, maybe not. We might try a different place in town.
Don't go, it's a ripoff!
I stayed one night at the Aspen Village, it was the worst hotel I stayed in during my trip to the Rockies. I payed almost 200 dollars (I was by myself). The carpet was dirty, the room smelled, and the TV had only 11 channels, no cable TV. No cleanex either, I've never seen a hotel without cleanex! When I phoned and said that I wanted a box of cleanex, the front desk girl told me to go down there myself to get one. I insisted someone was supposed to take it to me and after waiting some time I finally got the box. Why did I stay there? Because it was late, it was raining, I was tired after a long drive and I didn't find anything else. Waterton Lakes is very tiny and there aren't many options. There lots of hotels to choose from at Pincher Creek, 50 km north of Waterton lakes. I think that's a better choice.
Ideal location with a good receptionist
We spent just the one night in Waterton and the Aspen was ideal. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful on our arrival offering various thoughts on what would be the best room for the 3 of us to share (a married couple plus a friend). Our cabin was large, clean and well equipped as was the bathroom. Location, although not on the lakeside, was very central.
Worst hotel ever
Stayed here with 3 adults and 3 children in a 1 bedroom 3 bed cottage. It also had a kitchenette with NO cooking utensils, no kettle, no cups / mugs. I had to drink out of paper cups. No Iron or ironing board. I understand that for the money i wasn't getting 5 star but this was ridiculous. Would not stay here again nor would I reccomend it to anyone. POOR.
Nice location, rooms are ok, housekeeping is hit and miss
I've travelled to Waterton many times but had not stayed at the Aspen Village Inn for many years. We booked rooms through email - at first the communication was easy, but several emails went unanswered when confirming a second booking for another person travelling with us. Front desk staff were good, helpful at check in and throughout the stay. The rooms aren't bad, dated, small bathrooms - but the overall upkeep was lacking. Of the three sockets in the bathroom light fixture, only one had a bulb (one had a broken bulb), housekeeping didn't empty garbages when they cleaned the room after our first night, some towels were replaced but not all, two pillow cases were left on a chair outside our door, not major things but enough to make you wonder what else might get missed. Aspen Village does offer somewhat better value compared to other lodging options in Waterton, but for a few more dollars we'll upgrade to one of the other hotels on our next visit.
Great Motel
Great location in Waterton Canada - across the street from the main part of town. Has chairs to sit outside and enjoy the mountains and cool weather. Rooms are standard motel rooms. A lot of very friendly young people working. We would stay here again.
Aspen village cottage
Cute cottage - Somewhat remodeled. The cleanliness of kitchen was poor. Location was ideal. We enjoyed the outside chairs and picnic table. Plenty of room for our family of three. However, if returning we would try different lodging
westerose
I don't know what the past reviews are about. I was a little leary about staying here because of the reviews, but it was GREAT! We were in # 31 cabin. I would definately stay here again. The room sparkled. It smelled clean. The bathroom shone. There wasn't one stray hair on that floor. The staff were SO nice. It was a great stay!
