Sexism at its most expensive

It's not classic, it's old fashioned and stuck in the dark ages. So bad that even decent service can't save them from the rotten chauvinism. Separate menu's for women without prices. Absolutely offensive and misogynistic. The food is poor at worst, average at best. The escargot was disgusting. The steak was passable but not worth the exorbitant prices. To be honest, after the menu debacle I couldn't wait to pay and leave. Yes, that's right, I paid, the woman. Heaven forfend.

1st and last time

Terrible food and a huge rip off. I took my mom for her 83rd birthday because she said she wanted cherries jubilee. Everyone has to order their own entre. My mom eats 2 bites of food so her and my dad usually split a steak. The policy at this place is that if you don't order an entre then you are stuck with a $45 sharing fee. Usually a sharing fee is $15 if any. $45 was excessive. The steaks averaged $100 for 12 oz. The cheapest thing on the menu is a chicken breast for $60. I ordered a Caesar salad for $29. I was pleased to see the cart roll up for tableside service. The salad was very large and was average preparation, but they used old soggy lettuce that was already turning brown, so it was not very appetizing. I ordered a filet ($99) and my dad ordered a Sirloin Steak ($106). We ordered a chicken breast ($60) for my mom and told them just to pack it up to go since she wanted steak and we were just giving her a few bites of ours. The steaks had no flavor to them at all. My dad said he thinks the steaks at Texas Roadhouse are better. I don't mind spending large amounts if the food is amazing but to spend it on bad food is a slap in the face. There are also some really strange things going on at this place. 1. I made the reservation. When I arrived I said I am taking my mom out for her birthday. Then they handed my dad the menu with the prices. I had to take it from him since I was treating. 2. The bathroom says " Girls " on it instead of " women ". There is only 1 toilet for all of the women to use. 3. Every entre comes with an entire whole tomato on your plate topped with breadcrumbs. 4. At the end of the meal they bring you some chocolate covered fruit and a huge bowl of whole fruit. Apples, Oranges, Pears, 3 kinds of grapes. Like a grocery sac of fresh fruit. 5. We never got the cherries jubilee because even though I told them several times that we just came for the cherries jubilee, and that we were just rushing through our meal to get to that, They brought out a slice of cake with a candle for her birthday and we had already had such a bad experience we wanted to get out and we were stuffed anyway.

Amazing 4 diamond restaurant

This restaurant is the definition of class. Don't get me wrong.... if you aren't a foodie, you may find this restaurant a bit much. The negative reviews of this restaurant portray it as a cocky, overpriced place to eat. Understandable, if you are ignorant to the industry. The male gets the menu with prices while the female gets a menu without prices. The decor is classic red velvet. Complaints? I think not. The food is 100% on point. My fiancée is a chef in Ontario and was almost in tears at the quality and presentation of the entrees (wild salmon; filet minion). Dessert was so good I have no words. It may have been simple, but the table-side Caesar dressing and flavoured butter warming, attention to detail and customer service, and history of the place make it a MUST VISIT for real foodies. RESTROOMS are immaculate.

Almost perfect

After years of talking about it, my wife and I finally took the plunge and booked a night at the legendary Michael's Gourmet Room at the SouthPoint Casino. After walking through the mid-range casino, you enter Michael's and are transported into a world of bygone luxury. The room screams classic Continental in a way that has all but disappeared. Beautiful red booths combine with the red walls and ornate ceiling to create the perfect milieu for this type of cuisine. Our meals began with shrimp cocktails and escargot, excellently prepared. That was followed by a delicious spinach salad for my wife and a great French Onion Soup for myself. Entrees were the sirloin for me and salmon for my wife. Each was cooked to perfection and the sides were great, as well. The dessert trolley capped off an excellent meal that transported us back in time. The only caveat preventing this from a five-star review was our curt & unfriendly waiter. While very professional and attentive, he had little personality and snapped at my wife when she asked if we could order apps & soup / salad while she was still deciding on her entree. The server very directly and without tact told her that wasn't an option and that the entire order had to be done at once. We would still go back, however, and look forward to doing so in the near future.

Terrific night out

This was a special night. It was our anniversary so we went to Michael's and the food was really good. The service was great and we had the taste menu. It was very good

YUM

My dad and my father in law LOVED this restaurant. We used to go to it at their other locations and I really wanted to go this past trip. We went with my husband and his brother and his family. It is just as good as it always has been! What a treat. The service is great and the food is delicious!

Outstanding Food and Service

Wow, what an experience! The food and service were the best of any high end restaurant I've been at. The staff were very well coordinated with just the right amount of attention. One of the staff said he'd been with them for 32 years. It clearly shows! We had chateaubriand for two. The challenge was I like it blue and my wife likes medium rare. They discussed if they could do it before accepting the order and agreed they could. It was perfect for both of us. The other couple with us had excellent results as well. We will definitely be back when we're in Vegas for Cowboy Christmas.

As serious as it gets in the food game

Ok people, let's get right down to it. Michael's is the finest FINE dining restaurant in Las Vegas, period, end of sentence. I have lived in Vegas for 20+ years, have eaten at literally every restaurant there is in this town and I continue to go back to Michaels. First bit of advice; don't eat the entire day before you go to dinner. The amount of food that you are served, from the pre-game garnish plate to the ending fruit bowl, is glutinous. Second, dress the part. This is a fine dining restaurant that looks like it, acts like it, and charges like it; you do the same. Third, don't make any extravagant plans for after the dinner. This dinner is the show and you will be so full after eating, you will not want any part of a real show or club or pretty much anything else. I would trade every single restaurant on the Strip for Michaels. The craziest part is that this is in a locals casino (It moved here from the old Barbary Coast), nowhere near the strip, which makes it even better.

A real old school Vegas experience

This is a true Vegas experience. It is way off the strip, in the South Point Hotel. The ambience is great. Reservations recommended. We went with another couple. This is her boss's favorite place to go in Vegas. This was a celebration of both our anniversaries and turned out to be the most expensive meal we have ever purchased, so be warned. You get your own head waiter and they have a couple of assistants. All tables immediately start with a relish tray and crackers. We then had the crab claw appetizer, followed by Ceasar salad and spinach salad, both made table side which were lovely. We had the sorbet with Dom Perignon as a palate cleanser before our main dishes arrived. Three of the four of us had steak, all cooked great. The fourth had the scampi. I had a side of green beans, and they had creamed corn. Dessert cart is amazing. I chose cheesecake (which turned into breakfast the next morning). We also got the chocolate cake. Friend got bananas foster, which was wonderful. They also brought us out a tiramisu as an anniversary cake. And a huge bowl of fruit. We took leftovers back to hotel. This is not a place for kids. I am glad they enforce that rule.

Anniversary Dinner

Everything was fantastic ! Service -- we were treated like royalty -- the food -- sea bass and filet outstanding.. and escargot perfectly prepared.. Francisco treated us like royalty..

Vintage Vegas at it's Best

Old school Vegas incarnate. Attentive staff. Nice touches throughout. Large portions. Hand trimmed filet grilled to perfection. Sinfully decadent dessert cart. Frank took very good care of us. Expensive, but you see where the money goes. Will be back for any special occasion.

Old School is So Cool at Michael's Gourmet Room!

I like to post reviews when something is extraordinary _ either good or bad. Michael's was outstanding. To celebrate our son's 19th birthday while in Vegas, we went to Michael's to experience excellent classic cuisine, service, ambiance and conversation with their gracious and service-oriented staff. They made us all feel special, and our son was feted with a candle in a sumptuous chocolate cake. They chose perfect wines by the glass with very generous pours, and made a special raspberry martini that was refilled from a small carafe. Of our three nights of dining in Vegas _ including Barry's Downtown and Primal _ this was by far the best meal and service. A special treat for a special occasion! The chateaubriand was amazing, as was the Veal Saltimbocca. We had a Caesar salad made fresh at table side, and scampi to start, also made at table side. We recommend Michael's if you're up for a special treat, as if dining out in Vegas in the 1950s.

2021-12-17 11:08:49

Bad Food

Escargot was pastry floating on butter with rubbery snails. Bread was large white soda crackers and hard black bread with frozen butter pats. Veal was 1 / 8 " thick and tasteless. $500 for four, not worth $50.

2021-09-11 01:40:25

Yikes, What a Trainwreck

Wait staff couldn't have been nicer and more experienced. Drinks and appetizers were excellent but our entrees were a nightmare. Cold Dover sole, flavorless steaks. I have had better steaks for a third the price elsewhere. We had eaten here 15 years ago and it was an amazing and memorable meal, this trip was a massive disappointment. I will be unlikely to return and surely not recommend Michael's to friends. Maybe just an off night but at this price point ($119 for Dover sole), the food should be a home run but it was simply not.

Tremendous Steaks, Insane Prices

My parents and I chose Michael's for a special dinner. As noted below, we had a nice meal overall, but I don't think the experience justified the exorbitant prices. Upon arrival, we were surprised to see a small bar area for cocktails. This was not advertised or made known to us when we made our reservations, and it would have been nice to know that the bar area existed as there are no other nice bars in the South Point. I can't say we were greeted warmly or welcomed to the restaurant in a friendly manner. We were given a table right by the host stand, so we asked to move to a booth away from the arrival area and our request was granted. We were then asked if we wanted a cocktail, but it was strange that we were not presented with a cocktail menu or informed about any special drinks of the house. I asked if they had wines by the glass, and I was simply informed that the restaurant had " house wines " with no other explanation. I had to pull up the menu for wines by the glass on my phone to see what was on offer, which, again, was annoying for a restaurant of this class. We were presented with a radish tray that had various pickled vegetables. It was unique but not particularly my favorite foods to start our dinner. My G & T was served with a lime instead of a cucumber accompanying the Hendricks which made me wince. Again, these are small things that add up when you're paying absolutely insane prices. The wine list is extensive and we quite enjoyed the elaborate decanting process for our wine. For starters, we ordered onion soup, shrimp cocktail, and a salad. The salad was our favorite dish and the presentation was great. The shrimp cocktail was presented on a large block of ice, which was excellent looking but made the shrimp slightly challenging to eat without a separate plate (which was then provided to me upon request). My father enjoyed the onion soup but stated that he had had better at other Vegas steakhouses. After enjoying a delicious palate cleanser with Dom Perignon, our main meals arrived and our dining experience began to improve. We all ordered filets and my filet was one of the best steaks I have ever had. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, and the bearnaise sauce was scrumptious. We also ordered cream corn, a baked potato, and au gratin potatoes, which were lovely. Following dinner, we were shown the elaborate dessert cart and selected tawny port accompanied by bananas foster, which they kindly made for three people instead of two, which is the typical offering on the menu. The bananas foster presentation was great and the dessert was delicious. We were also offered a complimentary fruit platter with chocolate covered fruit to end the evening, which was a nice touch. From a service standpoint, aside from the drinks issues noted above, we were impressed with the service overall. There are so many staff members that it can feel frenetic at times but we greatly enjoyed chatting with the sommelier. The restaurant gives off a glamorous " old Vegas " feel with spacious booths and tables and red velvet seating. This is a dinner we won't forget and I'm glad we tried it. The steaks were fantastic and the presentation was quite special. Given the absolutely ridiculous prices, the service issues surrounding the drinks and the average starters, however, I don't think we'll return.

Strange and expensive dinner experience

My husband made a reservation here after seeing some good things online. We were seated immediately even though we were early for our reservation, but the good news stoped there. I don't even know who our server was. There were at least 4-5 different waiters that came to our table throughout the dinner. The wine list is a huge binder of cut out wine labels with bottle prices listed underneath. No per glass prices. When asked if you could get a glass, yes, but no list presented. I opted for a French 75 which was ok, very strong. They bring you out a relish tray with assorted vegetables and a dip and some bread that's like a giant flat crouton and frozen butter. When one server came to take our order, he asked if we were ready which we were, before we could answer, he said he'd come back. My menu did not have any prices, but my husband's did. We have been to Vegas many times and know to expect high menu prices, but this was exorbitant. I guess they had to build in the price of the relish tray and the sorbet with Dom poured over that you didn't even want or order. The food was mediocre at best and not anywhere worth the price paid. We definitely won't be going back. Try Bugsy & Meyer at the Flamingo - sit at the bar to have a custom cocktail made for you - or go to Joe's Stone Crab at Caesar's for the best meal and service you'll ever get.

Consistently fantastic

Great service and quality as usual Only thing that changed is a temporary pause on flambé deserts Chateaubriand was cooked perfect and the table side Caesar salad was awesome as usual Berries and cream tasted almost as good even though not flambé

Absolutely excellent

The steak was excellent. The stone crab legs were excellent. Dessert was excellent. Michael's is excellent.

Wow, so this is how the rich people eat!

This was the first 5-star eating experience for me. Low lighted, red décor with more beautify red roses than a high class florist. Our waiter was so professional yet warm in his demeaner treating us like we were old friends. The menu was filled with classic appetizers, salads (prepared at the table) and several main course choices. By the time we finished our relaxed meal, we didn't have room for incredibly tempting deserts, we received a bountiful fruit bowl like you see in classic still life paintings. Thanks for the dining experience.

What an incredible dining experience

What an incredible dining experience. We went for our anniversary on a recommendation of a friend. Told me there was a five star restaurant at the south point which didn't sound right. Wow ended up being the most amazing dinner. From the start, the ambiance, the service and the food were all first class. Great bottle of wine, amazing crab appetizer, sea bass the best I ever had and the veal my wife had were amazing. Then came dessert which we couldn't turn down although we could hardly move. It was amazing as well.

Hands Down the Best in Vegas

Luxury Restaurant hidden away at the South Point Hotel & Casino south of Mandalay Bay. If looking for a special occasion or event where price is no object this is the place. Cozy intimate setting where every table feels totally private. Service is over the top. Entrees run $69-$109, but the food is incredible. If you order an appetizer you will never be able to finish. The sorbet with Dom Perignon before the main course is a great touch. The five of us all raved about our meals. The desserts are decadent and then finish that off with a large fruit bowl and a plate of chocolate covered fruit. Other then being expensive this is a place that will set the bar for all other restaurants!

This restaurant is over the top, your wallet will weep but you won't be disappointed

My wife and I had dinner at Michael's last night and never before have I experienced such a culinary feast. Our Maitre d' was Russell and he was fantastic. This type of service is a thing of the past and that's sad. Russell oversees waiters, bussers, runners and assistants who all have a hand in your dining experience. They start you off with a relish tray. Another thing from the past. Breads / butter, the offering of an appetizer, then you get a lemon sorbet with Dom Perignon champagne to cleanse your pallet. My wife ordered the whole Maine Lobster.... they bring it to your table in a silver tray and break it down for you! I ordered the Filet Mignon and it was the best ever... and talk about it being cooked the wayI like it, wow! We ordered asparagus and creamed corn and both were excellent. Then after dinner they wheel a huge dessert cart around and if you can resist all the excellent choices then you are my hero, and fruits dipped in dark chocolate. These were phenomenal. Lastly, they bring you a huge bowl of fruit... WHY? I have no idea but it was excellent too. Did I mention that Michael's isn't cheap? Eating here will average you $250-$300 a person not including the gratuity. Would I eat here every day if I could.... hell yes! They finish most plates table-side, what an experience! Unfortunately, that's not realistic but everyone should try this small slice of heaven at least once.

Spoiled rotten and loved every minute

We visited Michaels as the owner is from our hometown in Nebraska. From the minute we were seated we were treated like royalty, with attention to detail like no other. From the pickled relish plate to the dessert table, every dish was served as if we were the most important people in the room. If you have time, and wish to be pampered, I highly recommend a dinner here. You will not be disappointed.

Old School classy formal steak house!

If your looking for for old school class in a restaurant this is the place for you. High Back Red Valore chairs-Red table cloth covered by a lace over cloth. Limited menu changes daily. Steak-Sea Food Fresh!!! Relish tray's that would make your grandmother blush " Oh My ". Did I say excellent steaks... Deserts flown in from New York & Miami daily. Serving staff was excellent maître d' was very observant to our needs. Back in my day you would have been expected to wear a suit to a restaurant this nice. Lucky for us they have relaxed that rule as times have changed. They have beautiful crystal chandeliers the dinning room. This is a very old school formal restaurant no children under 10 are served. Limited seating best to call ahead. Don't be too surprised to see evening gowns and suits on some patrons.

Best Food Experience Ever!

Amazing food, service and ambiance. I loved it from the time I was seated. Food was amazing, took a lot home with me, I have a better strategy for future visits. We got way more than we could eat.

Top notch food and service

Top notch food and service are what we experienced. A friendly greeting upon arrival, and seated immediately. This isn't a large restaurant, but a hidden gem inside SouthPoint. Frank manages the waitstaff, and will, ensure your dinning experience is perfect. I had clumped crab, while others enjoyed the escargot and French onion soup. It is VERY easy to order way too much food. We shared Chateaubriand Brouquetierre for two.

My Favorite

You just can't top Michael's. The food, the service, it's all incredible. The Dover Sole is my favorite and my boyfriend had a delicious steak. Russel took wonderful care of us and they just have the greatest team working there to take care of absolutely everything. It is worth ever single penny.

2019-06-04 13:38:46

Our Favorite Restaurant Anywhere!

Michael's never ceases to amaze us with their service and their food. I took my wife there on her birthday and it was the highlight of our trip.

Best Meal!

We had a fabulous anniversary dinner here on May 20, 2019. Can't beat the service and ambiance. While you are perusing the menu (there are no prices on the menu they give the women) they serve you a crudite platter and the most fabulous parmesan toast. Our meals were so on point - I had the most tender petite filet mignon ever! And the au gratin potatoes were to die for. Like I said, the service was top notch - they stay on top of everything without being intrusive. By the end of the meal we could not fit in dessert, but they brought a tray of chocolate covered fruits and an entire fruit basket to our table. Loved this restaurant and can't wait to go back!

シーフードメイン

ここはシーフードがメインで、意外に生ものもイケました。特にサーモンがおいしくて、ちょっと塩気が強いけど満足できるものでした。

2019-03-03 11:22:53

Unbelievable

My girlfriend and I stumbled across Michael's while looking for a nice bar to sit and have a drink. Michael's has a beautiful bar as soon as you walk in, which was completely empty. We asked the bartender if we can sit and have a drink; he advised we needed a reservation. We went on Open Table and booked a 9:00 p. m. reservation; in the comment section, we stated we were coming to have desserts and drinks. We went back to Michael's a few minutes before 9:00 p. m, the host told us we did not have a reservation. We showed him the Open Table confirmation, confirmed it was the right Michael's, right date and right time; he refused to accommodate us. Meanwhile, at the bar, was a couple enjoying a drink. We felt completely disappointed and insulted.

2019-02-25 01:50:23

Top of the chart

I strongly question whether Las Vegas has any place with better service than Michael's. Our mixed group of 10 seasoned travel " pros " and spouses, by some chemistry that came along with the group, probably triggered its own special treatment and made for one of those rare outings. We needed a private dining room for our number so that created a different dynamic than for the average diner. Starting at the bar to finishing with the dessert cart, the setting was one of lavish trappings, an electrically friendly lead waiter and generally super professional table service. Beyond the pale. Dover sole de-boned at table side (a sight to see, a taste they tout, our gang agreed). Beef tournedos that melted under the knife. Braised sea bass that melted on the fork. Sides of potatoes au gratin and creamed corn every bit the equal to the entrees. Plates with thin slices of Korean pear placed around after the dessert cart extravagances had been finished off. No amateurs working the kitchen. As far as dining with a group our size, if expense is not a concern and making a good impression is, you want to give Michael's strong consideration. Without hesitation, Vegas at its best.

Classic Old-School Dining

Going all the way to South Point isn't the most convenient thing to do, but it is worth it for this restaurant! Love the old school Vegas feel and always impeccable service. This place has my favorite rack of lamb and fulfills my New York cheesecake cravings. Instead of flying to Junior's in NYC, I can just come here :) Of course, I also enjoy the lemon sorbet intermezzo that is topped off with some Dom Perignon ;)

Old School Elegance

I couldn't hardly believe that they could actually " pick up " Michael's from the old Barbary Coast and plunk it down in the South Point Casino like it never left! Right from the front door of the place to the table cloths, it's like you're in the exact same spot - remarkable. That, and some of the same people are there too! The food and service are excellent - the Dover Sole is really what they're known for - my dinner was delicious, but it's far to go, and the nostalgia was fun, but I don't know that I'm going to be so anxious to go again. Sometimes the memories are better than trying to relive the past.

The greatest

From the moment you walk in you feel like you went back in time to the old Vegas we all love. Waiters wear tuxedos and treat you like family. If you want the greatest dining experience you will ever have please go. Table side salads and appetizers make for a great night. I swear it was the greatest time we have ever had. South Point we salute you. And stay after dinner for world class casino. Thinking of going to the strip? Don't. Head right to this place. I promise you it will be amazing. Also. Drinks are half the price of the strip and the people there treat you like you are important to them.

2018-09-15 00:06:12

Night out to dinner

While visiting Vegas, Michael's at South Point Casino is a MUST. From the time you walk in to the time you leave, you will be in awe. From your service to your food, there's like no other experience. The staff is impressive and the food is to die for. Just please try this place, you won't be sorry. Great date night!!!

50 / th Anniversary Dinner

Spectacular! I had heard about this place when it was on the strip, we were Pleasantly surprised with the great service, overall ambiance, and attention to Every Detail. It was a memorable experience.

Excellent! Experienced staff ONLY!

Great food! The platters of veggies, fruits, and chocolate dipped fruits was a nice surprise. The diners have space to enjoy privacy amongst their party. Large tables. Service was friendly and very professional. You can tell they DON'T hire people that don't have experience with fine dining. We weren't rushed at all, which shows they appreciate the diners. A great restaurant to go to celebrate a special event. Be prepared to pay a shiny pretty penny for it! It made me uncomfortable when I asked for a drinks by the glass menu, they didn't have one. A guest shouldn't have to ask how much a drink will be, it should be disclosed. But I guess they must believe the saying, " If you have to ask, then you can't afford it. "

Gut aber nicht gerade günstig

Man sollte vor reservieren, gut aber nicht günstige Auswahl an Speisen ist klein aber fein. Auch die angebotenen Weine sind von gut Qualität aber Teuer.

I Love the Remembrance

It is a yearly event to eat here and celebrate an anniversary and birthday. The wait staff is above and beyond! Your every move is anticipated. The ambiance takes one back to the roaring '20's. It is clean and plush. The food is wonderful. I can't say enough about the treat to eat here.

Best restaurant in Las Vegas... maybe the whole state of Nevada!

There aren't enough superlatives to adequately describe Michael's. The decor has a basic " old school steak house " feel, complete with the red velvet covered booths. Although its pricey (and when I say pricey, I mean pricey) they're portions are nothing to be ashamed of, which translates to a good value. The quality of the food is phenomenal and the staff is most attentive. But that's what you'd expect a very high-end restaurant such as Michael's. If you hit 'em big at the tables, take some of your winnings and treat yourself to an evening at Michaels. Obviously, reservations are a must.

Sticker Shock !

Brought a couple along for a fancy dinner.. Stone crab claws were outstanding.. did not like the way the escargot were prepared.. the crab cake was full of breading... lobster was excellent.. bone-in filet was cooked perfectly.. the dover sole was disappointing (bland).. desserts were delicious.. but, OMG, the prices !!! We've had dinners at fancy steakhouses before, and the prices are significantly lower elsewhere.. $28 for a glass of house wine !?!? $100 for a filet of dover sole !?!? .. and on and on.. Service was impeccable, and the food was good, but we would have saved $200-$300 anywhere else..

Simply the best anywhere

I have dined at Michael's since 1981. Visit each time I visit Las Vegas beginning at the Barbary Coast. It impressed the first time as well as the 50th time. Service like this was lost long ago. Food is great, very large portions of the best quality available. Tableside presentation. Is it expensive? Very. Is it worth it? Absolutely!

Best Dining Experience!!!!!!

A group of my friends were invited by another friend of ours and I can't begin to tell you what a wonderful dining experience we had. The food was incredible, the waiters and hostess were outstanding. It was by far the best dining experience any of us have ever enjoyed. Thank you very much to the Staff that made us feels so welcome and took so good care of us. We will definitely be back.

The best service in the USA!!!

Michael's is a jewell located at South Point HOtel / Casino in Las Vegas. The menu and food are amazing. Chateau Briand for two, Veal Piccata, Crab Legs, Steaks, and much more served elegantly by Head Waiter Hilmo. Hilmo does fabulous tableside service making bananas Foster, Cherries Jubilee, sauces for main dishes and much more. It is Old World elegance from the moment you enter the restaurant. It is very expensive, but worth every penny. I never feel as though I have been overcharged as the food is delicious, the presentation amazing. I recommend that anyone who wants to experience how ladies and gentlemen once dined on gourmet fare give Michael's a try. You will NOT be disappointed I assure you. Tell Hilmo that Mark from Boston sent you!

Great Food / Great Service / Great Atmosphere

Invited to join relatives for a good meal and a comfortable time 'catching up'. Michael's is a place you need to know to look for. It's just a name on a door in the South Point Hotel / casino. But once inside you almost immediately breathe a sigh of relief. The well-appointed room gives way to in our case four highbacked chairs surrounding a table with plenty of elbow room. The wait-staff seems to anticipate your every need and although the room is on the small side our party was given all the time desired to converse before ordering and to relax at the end of our meal. The menu is upscale and diverse, offering something for everyone to enjoy. It is pricey but well worth it. I would recommend reservations being made.

One of the best place I have ever eaten

We have been wanting to try this place out but the prices always scared us. We decided to say the heck with it and gave it a try. The moment you walked in you were treated like royalty. There were 7 of us and were seated at a big table with very comfortable chairs. We started with cocktails, the Gimlets and the martinis were outstanding. We also had a bottle of Balmoral Syrah. The steaks and Scampi were also outstanding. The side dishes, Creamed corn, baked potato, carrots and Asparagus were very good. Vinnie our server and his team were outstanding. I guess I don't mind spending money when the food and service were this great.

enjoyed our visit very much

although we did not stay at South Point we stayed nearby at the Grandview. We have been to South Point several times. We have played the slots. As usual, we helped them stay in business. On our last visit we decided to indulge and eat at Michael's. What a great experience. The food was delicious and prepared beautifully. The servers and maître-de were helpful and well prepared for their jobs. A bit pricey, yes. But that is what you expect at this exquisite restaurant. Go there. Enjoy. This dining experience is worth every dollar and the memory will last a lifetime.

Fine dining at its best!

If you want old school Vegas, Maitre d's and waiters in tuxedos, the most beautiful room you'll ever sit in. Very intimate. From the minute you sit down, everything is impeccable! If you have anything, the Tomato soup is like no other. Never leave without having made table-side, either the cherries Jubilee or the crêpe Suzette. Michaels is 5 star dining all the way

Fantastic!!!

Michael's is a hidden gem in the South Point Hotel. This is a top notch dining experience where the atmosphere and staff are outstanding. It really is fine dining. True, the prices are a bit high, but the service and attentiveness of the staff makes up for it. Highly recommended if you want an unrushed exquisite experience.

Very special place !

We tried this HIGH end restaurant on a whim. A really nice place in the South Point hotel lobby. Very polite attentive maitre D', Plush red velvet seating, service was polite and professional. Very pricy. They offered a variety of pickeled veggies before even seeing the menu. To sour for us. We ordered the escargot @ $32 for 7 covered with a puff pastry. VEry good buttery sauce with garlic. i asked for bread to lap up the sauce they said they didnt have bread om toasted coutons. They offered me a spoon. Before the next coarse the brought us a home made lemon sorbet & topped it with Dom Perignon, that was a nice touch. We shared the Dover sole @ $99 upon the waiters recommendation over the Chateau Briand and they still tacked on an extra $35 cause we shared. The table side presentation was nice and the portion was definately sharable. In fact I think it would be to big just for one person. It was good. Not the best I ever tasted however certainly among the most expensive. The sole was dense yet fork soft. Next time I will try the meat dish. They offered us a piece of chocolate cake on the house eventhough from the start we told them we were struggling with choosing either the bananas foster or cherries juilee. It was a kind gesture & we opted for a single serving of the Cherries Jubilee @ $27. It was very good, perhaps a few more moments to let a bit more of the alcohol to burn off. We finished with a nice full bowl of fresh fruit & a variety of chocolate cover fruits. A nice experience all in all !

The service was perfection.. the food just average..

It's not always true that you get what you pay for.... let's start by saying this place is Expensive for the quality of the food. They try to cover that up with excellent service. The dining room looks just like it did before they moved. Our waiter was very attentive. We started with Caesar salads made cable side. This was my favorite part of the meal. For $29 it should be. There wasn't really bread brought to the table - some dry nasty toast and a plate of pickled items that we didn't care for. They have Pepsi products and bring your alcohol and a bottle of diet pepsi with it. Thought that was tacky. I avoid places that have Pepsi and when it comes out of a plastic bottle it's even worse than a fountain. For dinner 3 of us had the veal -- three different styles. Again they plated it at the table and the service was great. The Veal Francese lacked flavor. It needed salt and taste badly. The veal was tender though. The stuffed tomato it came with was gross because the bread crumbs were grease filled and the tomato was flavorless even with th greasy crumbs. The other veal dishes were met with the same response -- no taste at all. For almost $100 for each item it should have been a lot better. We were going to get dessert but almost $60 for bananas foster.. Come on I lived in New Orleans for years where they made it at my table and never paid that. We skipped dessert. I would not go back. Good service is hard to find but in the end it's the food that matters more.

A gem of a find. Incredible experience

I rated South Point Hotel and Casino, not knowing that Michaels had it's own spot here on Tripadvisor. South Point is this very nice resort / hotel / casino south of the strip in Vegas. As you walk toward your room, a carved dark wood door up 2 steps from the casino sits in the wall with the Micheals signage above it. We walked in 15 mins after calling from our room to make a reservation. Your first impression is - wow. this is nice. Maybe I should go put my tux on! We were offered a large booth, and the staff pulled our table out. It was delightful and even a bit magical. I had one thing on my mind and didn't care the cost - Maine lobster. I never even cracked the menu. For kicks, I will add this because I didn't know it until my sweetheart told me - her menu had no prices! The gentlemens menu does. Maybe old craft but I loved that! I won't detail my personal experience, but I'll hit the highlights. We give 5 stars to everything nowadays, from our Lyft driver to our safeway purchases. This place needs to have about 9 stars. The food was spectacular, I ate and ate and ate. Service? a redefinition. My lady would take a sip and some young chap was filling her water glass a moment later. You aren't served by one waiter - its a team effort. You really can't tell who is who - everyone is trying to hit every note perfect and nothing is missed. There is a dome inside that I commented on, (see photo) and from my question, we learned about how it was brought to the hotel, and more importantly in my opinion, how the average staff experience was 25+ years. This was better than any place I've been in Vegas. Period. I rate it top 3 in my lifetime. It was that good. Instead of 15 mins at a roulette table, GO HERE!

2016-11-20 14:35:53

A lost Art!!

It's been said before... This is true " Old School " dinning at it's best... with a true table captain to see that your every need is met! Oversized booths for side by side seating around the perimeter and similar oversized chair seating in the middle of the room all amply spread out, allowing for exquisite privacy, and a very reasonable, almost quiet setting... there are no crowds here... no shouting required! The lights are subdued but not to the point where you can't read the menu or see your food! Table side presentation and plating is standard... a lost art! Not to mention the incredible food... I don't say this often, but truly one of the best meals I have ever had... anywhere! Beware the portions are huge... even the appetizers are easily shareable. We started with some great wine recommendations... the house Cab and Zin were both excellent and would go with any dish. The Escargot en Croute was great (must like garlic).. the Chateaubriand... in a word... phenomenal! Accompanying bernaise and hollandaise sauces... Enough for two couples per order... I felt horrible sending the left overs back to the kitchen as we just couldn't eat any more. Note to self... what ever you do... skip the bread and anything else ahead of time. Then came the dessert cart... OMG! Again portions large enough to share as a table. We did indulge in the table side prepared Bananas Foster flambé... As good as Brennan's! And as a grand finale, they bring you complimentary fruits (in a huge bowl as well as chocolate dipped fruit on the side). All in all, perfection in the form of Old School Atmosphere, Service, Charm, and Exquisite Food preparation! Even at this price point... worth every penny!! Our new " go to " when we visit Vegas!

2016-08-04 00:09:01

Delightful experience!

This is the third time we visited Michael's its always so quiet and charming. The staff is simply amazing, the service is on top of details. This time our waiter was Francisco, he made sure this was a memorable experience. The food couldn't be better, simply a place to remember and return whenever in Vegas... Reaching the place is part of the experience ;D

Mouthwatering... Quiet, Exquisite

We made a reservation at " Michael's " one of the most amazing dinning experiences I've had in along time, food was Excellent and service was Perfection!!We knew we were going to nice place but we were a little " sticker " surprised when we saw the menu. No worries though, it was worth every bite. Three of us, 2 / Small Fillet's, 1 / Salmon and the asparagus. Plus one bottle of Santa Margarita. Plus, the relish tray (olives, peppers Jícama, cucumbers, pickles, etc.. they start off, the breads, Dom Perignon poured over a sorbet (pallet cleansing), large piece of birthday cake for my GF, then an amazing chocolate plate, they brought the dessert tray (five layers) of God Like Yum but we had to pass. Bill not counting tip was $322.00 with Tip $396.00. I will go back with my husband for a special occasion. No children allowed.

2016-06-05 12:30:55

Best service anywhere!

This was our 2nd trip to Michaels and it is a wonderful albeit expensive indulgence. Our bill before tip for 3 people was $566! Caesar salad is made tableside and is recommended. Sirloin steak was very good, but not phenomenal. Bananas foster was superb. The thing that sets this restaurant apart is the ambiance and superb service and attention to detail!

2016-05-02 18:05:18

Consistantly and outstanding restaurant

The food and service is perfect here. We had Fresh Imported Dover Sole, Prime Sirloin, amazing tomato soup, William J Salad, Black Forest Cake and fresh berries over ice cream and flaming chambord. It was all perfect.

Great Service and old Vegas atmosphere

We visited Michael's for my girlfriend's 30th birthday on a Wednesday night. The restaurant is located near the escalator to the bowling alley and movie theater across from the gift shop. There's no menu located outside. Instead there's a stained glass window with an ornate door. As you enter the restaurant there's a hostess stand on the left and a small bar on the right. When we arrived no one was sitting in the bar area. The host promptly approached the stand and seated us at our table. We had dinner reservations for 7:30 pm and I'd say that the restaurant was 75% full when we arrived. We sat in a red velvet booth next to one another. You cannot see outside of the restaurant into the casino making it feel like an old Vegas restaurant. We ordered a moderately priced bottle of Malbec wine for $35 to start off. Additionally, we received a wide variety of breads and a vegetable plate at the beginning of the meal. This was a significant amount of food. Honestly, we did not need any appetizers or sides but it was my girlfriend's birthday so we tried a little bit of everything. She ordered the escargot as an appetizer and I had a caesar salad. It took us awhile to order our appetizers due to the numerous tables that our waiter was serving. However when the appetizers arrived they were excellent. The caesar salad was mixed at the table in front of us. Prior to the entree the restaurant provided sorbet with a touch of dom perigean to cleanse the palate. For entrees I had the chilean sea bass and my girlfriend had lamb. Both entrees were generous portions. I finished the fish but there was more than enough for leftovers. My girlfriend took the lamb home. We also shared asparagus as a side. The sea bass came with leaks so a side wasn't necessary but the asparagus was great with hollandaise sauce. For desert the restaurant provided chocolate covered fruits. As it was my girlfriend's birthday we were also provided creme brûlée. The meal itself was over $300. With a bottle of wine, two appetizers, and two entrees you'd expect as much. This is a great restaurant for a special occasion that takes you back to classic Vegas. I personally prefer the classic steakhouses on Fremont Street for the old Vegas experience.

Great meal to start 2016

We dined here New Years day in The South Point Casino. The casino itself is not mt style, looks more like a local place. Michaels was outstanding, we enjoyed stone crab and lobster cocktail to start. This is a throwback ratpack style restaurant with a fine wait staff and service was impeccable, the bar service is limited with it's cocktail service. The Caesar Salad was very good, however I would this to be the only truly unreasonable thing on the menu at 27 us dollars per person... ouch for the Caesar. The dover sole was also over priced at 92, it was very good but the Seabass with dill that my wife had was a better dish and significantly cheaper. Overall I would definitely come back as everything was very good.

Best Filet Hands Down

Michael's is a small intimate restaurant that oozes old style Las Vegas decorated with plush decor and high back wrap around chairs and a stained glass ceiling, and chandeliers hanging over every table. I don't think there were 50 seats, not tables, seats in the entire restaurant. As we waited for our order to be taken, an appetizer tray was placed on our table full of enticing vegetables. I must have had at least a dozen green olives. And they were huge. And delicious. Although Michael's is well known for it's imported Dover Sole, I chose of course the Filet Mignon. An atomic sized baked potato and stuffed tomato accompanied the filet. It was a very wise decision. The filet was huge, juicy, tender, and delicious. It was cooked exactly as ordered. After dinner, a dessert tray was presented with many delectable treats. I opted for just one enormous multi chocolate flavored strawberry. A fruit tray followed of which I sampled the several varieties of grapes. The cost, well, let's put it at very expensive. Let's just say around $100 per person. The service was excellent, and the filet was delicious.

Amazing 3 hour dining experience

Fantastic evening I will not forget. Parents 50th wedding anniversary. Extensive relish tray. We started with French onion soup and crab cakes. French onion was nice and a little lighter than you would expect. Crab cakes were full of crab! Entrees for our table included the scampi the sole and the band. Generous portions prepared table side. Veggies included asparagus with holandaise green beans and creamed spinach. All excellent. Desserts were key lime pie from Key West which was phenomenal Bananas foster and the chocolate cake. At he end we were treated to chocolate covered fruit and an enormous fruit bowl. The staff was exceptional. Will never forget. Thank you!

Good, Throwback " Old School " Dining, Not Perfect

I went very much out of my way to dine at Michael's because there are so few places left in the U. S. where traditional, " old school " dining can be found. Tableside preparation was quite nicely done, but without real flare. I had two courses prepared tableside. Hot spinach salad dressing was a too heavy and oily. Entree was good. If you want a big-time throwback to old dining room protocol and menu, right down to the red velvet and lace doily table coverings, you'll enjoy it.

2013-01-08 12:59:07

Old School and Fun

We had a great time at Michael's. I'd read the reviews on TripAdvisor and knew what to expect and it was recommended by a foodie who lives in the Vegas area. My friend had the escargot (the pastry is a bit " over the top " but hey - that's a theme here) ; and I had the onion soup (not the very best I've had but very fresh) We ordered the Caesar salad and enjoyed having it made for us tableside by Hilmo; really liked that he mixed the ingredients for the dressing early to allow it some time to sit and come together before adding in the romaine, cheese and croutons. It was perfectly done. We ordered the rack of lamb for two. Its the best I've ever had and it was perfectly medium-rare, Cut into individual ribs tableside. My friend ordered the Parisienne chocolate cake. I took one bite (I just had no gas left in the tank) and thought it was very good; my friend regretted not ordering the bananas foster. I'd go with bananas foster for desert - IF you have room. My friend loved the chocolate dipped fruit and said it was delicious. I loved the sorbet / Dom champagne palate cleanser. Service was gracious attentive... but not stuffy and overdone. The room is definitely " old school " which, after all the mod places we visited early in the week - really appealed to us both. Our lead waiter, Hilmo - was excellent.

Old school dining -- palet cleansers between courses; ladies' menus don't have prices!

I don't remember hearing about Michael's, but my husband and I started noticing the billboards. With our wedding anniversary approaching, I researched Michael's on-line. I found that AAA gives them 4 diamonds; and Zagat's has rated Michael's as " one of Las Vegas' top five restaurants " every year for the past five years. The menu looked somewhat limited, but what they offer sounded good. There were no prices on the menu which concerned my husband. I convinced him they probably just don't put the prices on-line in case they change a price; few websites are kept current. We were able to make a reservation on-line through Open Table. When I made the reservation, I included a note that we would be celebrating our wedding anniversary. Walking into Michael's was an absolute delight! In the midst of the garish hotel / casino, there were a few marble steps leading to a large dark wood door etched with architectural detail. As soon as we stepped inside, we were transported back in time. Michael's is done in dark wood; the upholstery is deep red -- very old school. It is intimate -- it only accomodates 50 people. There were some tables in the middle, but tall booths filled the perimeter of the room. We were seated immediately and the maitre'd offered to hang our coats. I can't remember the last time someone in a restaurant offered to hang my coat! They pulled the table away from the banquette so that I could slide in easily, then did the same for my husband. Our water glasses were immediately filled with bottled water and, within a minute or two, someone delivered a generous relish tray as well as pumpernickel bread with parmesan. I can't tell you how many waiters, head waiters and bus staff waited on us -- yet they were not intrusive. Neither water glass ever reached half empty. My husband asked for Jack Daniels with water; I asked for a glass of Pinot Noir. Both drinks were delivered within just a couple of minutes. The Jack Daniels has just a splash of water. The Pinot Noir was served in a very large red wine glass engraved with Michael's logo and " 30th anniversary. " It seems Michael's was at the Barbary Coast for 25 years, then moved to the South Coast five years ago at which time, apparently, Zagat's begin rating it. The Pinot Noir was very good (not the best I've ever had; but it was very good) and the pour was generous. (Good thing -- Now that I'm home, I see it was $19 a glass.) The pumpernickel / parmesan bread was terrific; I tried to not eat too much of it. The relish tray had interesting items, including quail eggs, olives, cauliflower, pickles, small corn ears, jicima, and sweet peppers. When we were ready for menus, I didn't see any prices. My husband made a comment about the price of something on the menu and I said " Where are you seeing prices? I don't see any prices. " (Duh! We still hadn't figured it out.) He said " In front of each dish. " That's when we realized that my menu didn't have prices. Just for fun, we tried to think back to the last time either of us had been in a restaurant in which the ladies' menus did not have prices. For me, I'm pretty sure it was the 1980's. I ordered Shrimp de Diavolo as an appetizer. The shrimp were very large, and there were several of them. In my opinion, it should have been spicier. I recently had the Shrimp Diablo at Firefly and it was much spicier; and I remember La Collina's shrimp diablo as being too spicy fo rmy neighbor but perfectly spiced for me. My husbnd ordered the cream of tomato soup. He said it's the best tomato soup he's ever had. I tasted it; I agree. Between the appetizer and main courses, we were each served a small champagne glass with lemon sherbet. The head waiter poured Dom Perignon (no joke!) over the sherbet! It's been a long time since I was in a restaurant that served palate cleansers. Although I have been served sherbet between courses, I have never had champagne poured over it. As a dessert, yes; as a palate cleanser, no. I have been known to serve my guests lemon sherbet with champagne for a dessert, but always with a medium-priced champagne. It just seems wasteful to me to pour a fabulous champagne over sherbet, but.... Dom Perignon it was. My husband ordered the special of the day -- bone-in filet. I now see that it was $96! It was very good, though, and we ate every bite. He had a $15 baked potato and a $22 glass of Cabernet Savignon. The steak came with a baked tomato (my favorite; yum) which was an unexpected surprise. I ordered the tournadoes of beef and a glass of Cab. Although the beef was prepared as I requested (medium rare), I didn't especially care for it. The asparagus with hollandaise sauce, however, was excellent. The asparagus was crisp. I only ate 1 / 2 of one tornadoe. The beef came with one huge shrimp, which was a surprise. I told my husband I'd take my 2 pieces of meat and the shrimp with me in a doggie box. He asked me to not request a doggie bag. It seemed like such a waste. We compromised and agreed that, if offered a " to go " box, I'd accept; but I wouldn't request one. Well, the bus boy who cleared our plates did not offer. What a waste -- my entree was $76 and I left most of it on my plate. (Another couple left when we did and they had a " to go " bag with them. I'm still kicking myself!) The head waiter brought us a piece of Grand Marnier cake, with a lit candle. He wished us a happy anniversary. We had a few bites of the cake but it was too rich -- even for a chocoholic like myself. The bus boy then brought out a huge bowl of fresh fruit and a sterling silver platter full of chocolate-covered fruit: a banana, pineapple, an apricot, two cherries, two strawberries, and something square, perhaps another piece of cake, again wishing us a happy anniversary. OMG! Now I was in 7th heaven! Although we were not charged for the desserts or fruit, dinner for two was $350 before tip! I know that I have never spent so much money on dinner in my life. In fact, we've invited 6 friends to have dinner with us in the Kitchen Table Room at Buca di Beppo on three occasions and paid between $200 and $300 for eight people -- of course, the wine is " dago red, " and the prices are plastered on the wall for everyone to see. But you see my point. It was a fun experience to enjoy " old school " dining again. But neither my appetizer (shrimp de diavalo) or my entree (tornadoes of beef) was anything " to write home about. " Considering this and the fact that dinner for two cost $415, I doubt that we'll ever go back. But money is relative. If you like old world dining and aren't put off by the prices, try it. You'll probably like it. Service was " par excellance. "

Arrogant with a capitol " A "

Ok my wife and I are in Vegas for about 5 weeks a year on business and we eat out a lot. We were staying at the Grand View and decided to have a romantic evening after a hectic week. I decided to surprise her with a romantic dinner at Micheal's at the South Point casino. Your first impression is always the first thing at Micheal's you are served, water first. The waiter a nice fellow, comes out and serves water from a " green plastic liter jug " ! OK that's weird in a high-end place maybe the jug is from some fancy French spring? Then we get the menu! WOW! A Filet is $90+ and that's just for starters. No potato or vegi that is extra. The app's are twice what you pay in most fine Vegas places and the costs keep adding up! OK this is a nice dinner for my wife and I so I decide to ignore the " gouging " (we eat in Vegas a lot and this is 40% above about any place in town) and just go forward. We generally split meals just because portions are so large. I order an entrée ($25) a salad ($17) the sea bass ($60+) some cream corn ($13) and a desert and tell the waiter we will split the entrée. We also purchase a bottle of wine that is marked up about 250% mark up (this is normal). That the waiter brings. The waiter, a nice guy explains that the fee is $35 for the split entree. Let's recap the entrée is fish that's it you pay for every thing else and we have made it clear all we want is an extra plat. Ok I finally am having buyers overload. I say, " look just bring us the app and a check ". He says, " I'll go talk to the guy in charge, " and leaves. He comes back in about a minute and says, " we don't just serve app's ". Mean while they have been brought a basket of bread and a relish tray. In response to the " we don't serve " Just " apps I say, " cork my wine and please bring me a check I'm going ". In response to my statement that I'm leaving a guy comes by and scoops up the bread and relish tray like we were going to ask for a go box! BAR NUN THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE IN VEGAS WE HAVE EVER HAD. OVER PRICED, ARROGANT and RUDE. This place will rip you off with stupid prices, serve you water in a green plastic jug and they charge $35 dollars to split an entrée and they tell you that they don't just serve app's and do all this with their nose in the air trying to intimidate you into eating their arrogant attitude! BAD BAD BAD attitude. If you want to be ripped off, treated poorly and exposed to the worst Vegas has to offer definitely go to Micheal's at South Point.

Never again..

Horrible, never back again. A nightmare!!! Had the most horrible experience last Saturday in Micheals in South Pointe Casino in Last Vegas. The senior staff, including maitre d' and general manager, there has been intimidating, rude and was personally extremely insulting to me and my 3 other guests. Also: please be warned that this Micheals restaurant lacks any class or style, serves insane large portions and besides the fact that their fare is at its best mediocre, it is highly overpriced. Avoid this place at all costs and never ever go (back) here. There are 1000 better options in Vegas where they treat you as a valued guest and not as rifraf. Again: avoid Micheals in South Pointe Casino.

A great Dining Experience

Michaels is a wonderful dining experience and service spectacular. We discovered it while staying at the South Point. It was obvious it was a fine dining establishment when we opened the door, low lighting and staff very well dressed. We walked in with jeans and asked if our dress would be an issue. We were greeted with a huge smile and promptly seated at a huge booth. From the time we sat down until we left we were treated like royalty, service was superb and food delicious and seemed to be never-ending. My sister in law really enjoyed the generous pour of wine. You start your experience the moment you are seated and greeted by your serving staff. They promptly present you with a wonderful bread basket and a delightful relish tray. The Cesar salad is made at your table, meats and vegetables finished tableside. The onion soup was equally fabulous, and at the end they brought us a tray of chocolate dipped fruit, all was wonderful. There was a large table of business men that ordered banana fosters that was prepared tableside. They seemed to enjoy them. We all enjoyed the wonderful meals, the foods were perfectly prepared and service superb. Michaels is a fabulous place to celebrate any occasion, romantic dinner or just a great meal with friends. I will definitely be returning on my next visit to Las Vegas. Forget Boa and the rest, Michaels beats the trendy spots hands down.

Absolute Perfection

My husband and I had the pleasure of recently celebrating our daughter's 30th birthday at this truly fine establishment. The quality of this old fashioned fine dining is sadly missing in today's market. Whilst it was an expensive evening, every attention to detail to make the evening perfect for our family was certainly met. The portion sizes of the appetizers and mains were huge and way beyond our capacity, however, we were very respectfully offered the option (which we took) to take the remains home. The wine list was excellent, the desert selection ample and the wait staff exemplary. We shall certainly return for another special occasion. (This establishment is not suitable for children under 12 yrs).

Over the top in a great way

This review is of my fourth time dining at Michael's. It's a special occasion kind of place and even thought I wasn't celebrating anything, just being there made it a special occasion. When booking my reservation, I asked the concierge at my hotel to ask them to call and reschedule my reservation in the event they didn't have stone crab on the night I preferred to go. When I called the day before to confirm my reservation and request to be seated in a booth, I was told they were certain they would have the stone crab without my even mentioning it! This is one tiny aspect that demonstrates their attention to detail. While deciding that I would order the escargot to start with and then the stone crab entree, I enjoyed the famous relish tray and breads. The presentation of the escargot is impressive and huge, but I didn't love this starter and would not choose it again. The stone crab entree was enormous, coming to the table in a huge shaved ice filled bowl stuffed with six huge crab claws and knuckle pieces. Each claw was at least 4 inches long and I would guess the entree portion was approximately 3 pounds of colossal sized stone crab claws. It came with cottage fries and Cole slaw. I took a taste of each of these and they were terrific, but I didn't want to fill up on these things with stone crab in front of me. I was able to consume half of this spectacular shellfish presentation and the rest was carefully packaged on ice with a side of their amazing mustard sauce for me to take back to my hotel. Too full to ordered dessert, the lovely chocolate dipped fruit and petit four tray was brought to my table with the beautiful fruit bowl. Unable to eat any of this, they graciously offered to package up the chocolate / petit four tray to go along with the cluster of grapes I put on my plate and wished I had room to enjoy. I asked my server what happens to all that perfect fruit in the bowls placed on each table when it doesn't get eaten. He said they can't put it on another table, but that it's washed off and put in the casino's employee dining room for staff. (I was glad to know it wasn't all wasted) While it would be hard to find someone to argue that this place is anything less than very expensive (essentially every appetizer or salad is $25 and entrees average $75) the quality of the food is fantastic and the service exceptionally attentive. I am glad it's doing well and will likely be there for celebrating my next special occasion, or perhaps just dinner that in and of itself will be a special occasion.

Overpriced Tourist Trap

From the beginning, this was a big joke. It started with what my mother would call a " relish tray " with pickles, chopped vegetables, etc and some dry toast and flatbread. Next came a salad that was marginal. Entrees were under seasoned and unremarkable. I was in a business party of four, had recently had surgery and asked only for some soup. The response to this was snooty, arrogant and made me feel very belittled as the only woman at the table. Head waiter told one of the men at the table that they would have to pay for me to sit there as I only ordered soup (soup was $22). Nothing about this place will keep them in business unless there are enough people in this world that are willing to pay an average of 175 pp (without alcohol) for food that isn't even as good as a chain eatery.

Expensive but worth it

Michael's was a great experience. Definitely recommend it if you can swing one night for a pricey meal. To help avoid sticker shock: appetizers around $25, entrees range from $56-$100, desserts $25. A lot of the food is prepared table side, service is impeccable. The staff tries its best to please you, and they are very good at it. They are there the second you need anything, but they do not hover. The restaurant is very quiet, tables wonderfully separated for privacy, guests are not rushed through their meals. There are only two seatings each night, no walk-ins allowed.

Wow! What an experience!

My husband and I are used to the finer things in life, yes we have been fortunate. But what an experience at Michael's! It was our last night of our vacation with my sister and brother-in-law and we booked South Point for just 1 night as they have to fly the next morning and then hop on an international flight in LA. I called front desk and asked for their best restaurant on site and she said " Definitely Michael's and it is Zagat-rated. " Zagat-rated restaurants are everywhere and certainly did not mean a thing to us when she said that. When we made the reservation we were told no shorts which was not an issue. 3 of us were in polo shirts and jeans and the forth had a business shirt and pants. We walked into Michael's and felt just a touch of of place but what the heck. The place was cold and we asked the server if they could raise the temperature a little and we were told no. So a couple of us headed back to the room to grab a coat. When I got back down to the restaurant, a large complimentary platter of vegetables, pickles, quail eggs was set at the table, together with crackers and such. Nice. Next was sorbet to cleanse the palate. It was very french. When we were offered menus, the ladies' menus had no price :-), only the men's. How traditional! Anyway, we ordered rack of lamb and New York strip. The lamb was amazing and so were the sides that came with it. There was so much food. After the entree was cleared. We were so full by then that we split one desert and they split it for us into 2 plates and each looked like a full slice! They then brought us a plate of fruits dipped with chocolate and a whole basket of fruits. WOW. The price tag at the end of the meal was not bad at all. Yes, it is more than what most pay for dinner regularly but it is not the most expensive dinner that we had paid for but it is certainly more unforgettable than anywhere else that I had been to. Looking forward to going back again!

Michael's is Michael's and always has been

Michael's was great when it was at the Barbary Coast and has lost none of its charm, quality, or atmosphere. We probably go to Michael's one out of five trips to Las Vegas. You will pay. The last time we dined at Michael's there were four of us. We had two of the least expensive bottles of wine, split some salads, and had one desert for the whole table. Our bill was more than $700. But we loved the place and will go again.

2012-10-12 21:07:55

Absolutely fabulous!

I dined @ Michaels on 10 / 3 / 12 and absolutely loved it! We were greeted with a fabulous tray of pickled crudite that easily could have been my dinner! My husband had a 2.5lb lobster that was amazing while I had the lamb chops that was equally delicious! The chocolate dipped fruit as well as the huge bowl of fruit was just the icing on the cake. I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in Vegas! Totally worth the money!

Just about the best

Steak houses always come to mind when you talk about the " greatest " dinners you have had: Mastro's, Delmonico's and a few hidden gems one finds while traveling. But to have had a first class, top notch steak house in Vegas and we didnt even know it is a crime! Our business associate invited us to dine here while we were attending convention and I (naturaly) looked it up on TA. The reviews seemed a bit exagerated and over the top, but they were not! This restaurant is everything a five star restaurant should be. Aside from all the crackers and antipasto and chocolates and fruit that are freely served through the meal the actual food is amazing. Crab cocktail, jumbo shrimp on ice, lobster cocktail, clams, oysters mussles... yes we tried them all. Then a succulent (and I dont use that term loosely) filet mignon washed down with SEVERAL bottles of 2006 Banfi Brunello, only to be capped off with real NY cheescake and real Key Lime Pie... oh my my. My only suggestion is to relax and enjoy the service, dont rush and for pete's sake... wear loose clothes.

2012-11-09 13:46:03

Too Pricy by far

Had a very disappointing experience at Michael's. It is form over substance. The food is adequate but by no means great and the prices are astronomical. Who needs a huge bowl of fruit put on the table after eating dessert! They are operating the same way they did 30 years ago, outdated and over the top. With so many wonderful restaurants in Vegas Michael's just doesn't cut it.

2012-04-19 18:55:33

Get a room with a fridge

Remarkable evening. Food as art (a 90 foot mural, not an 8x11 still-life). I will never again have a room in Vegas without a refrigerator, and this restaurant is the reason. Portion sizes are absurd. I ate my mousse left-overs in my room with my fingers! Think veal when you are considering the main course. The lobster cocktail is a " glowing tribute " to cold, dead filter-feeders everywhere. Prepare to pay, and don't show up in anything less than a limo (Michael's is worth the expense of a good ride).

2013-12-07 16:55:21

Best kept secret

The best food and service in town. It's a hidden gem indeed!! First time but I've heard a lot about it and it was everything I expected.

2014-01-16 18:22:00

Horrible night

We were treated horribly by the staff at this restaurant. This had been our favorite restaurant in the city until last Saturday night. Do not go to this restaurant!

2015-07-03 17:06:37

Disappointing

We celebrated my 70th birthday at Michaels. The food was very expensive which I knew going in. The food, however, fell far short of the price. The maître d was accommodating and the wait staff was attentive. Above average ambiance. The experience soon deteriorated when the food started to arrive. The standard relish tray and bread (what imagination). The escargot was served with a soggy pastry topping. (Truly uninspiring). Rack of lamb for two, $175 served on two platters with a huge stuffed tomato, Two " big chunks " of cauliflower and broccoli and a bowl of vegetables. (" Me hungry "). A feast fit for a lumberjack but not for fine dining. Quantity must equal quality at Michaels. I ordered a side of creamed spinach that was milky and " slimy ". (the only word I can use to describe it). To finish, some chocolate cover fruit and a big bowl of fruit. I am full once again just remembering. This review is harsh but accurate. I love the South Point, but Michaels need not worry about another bad review from me.

2015-03-10 22:39:41

Eye-wateringly expensive, but worth it

When Michael's moved from the back of Barbary Coast on the Strip down to Southpoint Casino, I was worried that things would change. Luckily, not a thing changed. It is still a thing of beauty, like a butterfly trapped in amber. The food is very, very good. The veal saltimbocca was probably the best I've ever had. The potatoes au gratin was quite nice and my wife's sea bass was also well prepared with leeks and a dill butter. We finished with bananas foster, which was prepared table-side. I'm not a big banana fan, but this was so damned good that now I'm afraid that bananas will disappear and I'll never have Michael's banana foster again. (Bananas are a monoculture and a single plant virus could wipe out the entire banana population world-wide.) Though the food was darned tasty, that alone would not justify the prices. Dinner for 4 people, no appetizers, one round of cocktails, and a total of 3 glasses of wine came to over $650 with a solid tip. The atmosphere and service, however, make Michael's worth every penny. The red velvet booths, intimate 50-person room, and subdued lighting make it feel like you're stepping back in time to a nicely appointed restaurant that the Rat Pack would've visited. The women are given menus without prices so they need not worry their pretty little heads over such details. (A quaint anachronism.) And the service is truly remarkable - the wait staff is solicitous and attentive, but they are engaging and personable rather than the nearly funereal silent treatment or snobbish disdain that you encounter at some fine dining establishments.

Over the Top 5-Star Dining.

Michael's Gourmet Room is over the top 5-star dining anywhere but certainly ranks at the top of the best in Las Vegas. A well-known friend of mine set four friends of my friends and me up for reservations at Michael's and then the restaurant took care of the rest! The room is old-time beautiful beaming with atmosphere. The service and attention to detail was probably the best I have ever encountered in a restaurant. Then, the food.... everyone at our table had an incredible entrée. The steak was the size of a roast cooked to perfection and my Dover sole was the best fish I have ever eaten. Fantastic. Even though Michael's a little ways off the Strip, it's well worth a short cab ride for this unbelievable dining experience... Plus the South Point is a great hidden secret place to stay and gamble as well. I will go back every trip to Vegas!

The ultimate Gourmet DIning experience

This is a fantastic gourmet restaurant located at theSouthPoint Casino just south of the busy strip. Access in and out of thehotel is very easy. The food, service and ambience is great. Starting with the relish tray- to the dessert they spare nothing. The Crab appetizer is wonderful and you have to try Michael's signature strawberry cake- it's the best I've ever eaten. Try ths place for a romantic evening out-you won't be dissappointed. Caution: It's a little on the pricey sidebut well worth it.

2013-09-13 06:14:35

Difficult to beat

Hidden away in one of the less flashy casinos Michael's is a real gem Food, wine, cocktails, surroundings, service all of the highest order The best steak I have ever eaten anywhere (I ate Filet Mignon, Aux Champignon) and the starters - I defy anybody not to like their Sauteed Fresh Mushrooms à La Crème or Coquille St. Jacques The decor is so 'old Vegas' Sitting here in grey UK, I want to go back! Thanks for taking us there Mike (and thanks for paying)

2012-09-16 01:28:07

5 stars!!

A once in a lifetime experience. Felt like we were 1st class on the Titanic! Old school service, my menu didn't have any prices, while my husband's did! I love that. I assume it's extremely expensive, but I don't care. It was that good. We got the steak special, hubby got french onion soup and I had tomato. Creme Brulee for desert. Largest portions I have ever seen. We could've easily split a steak and had leftovers. Romantic and exquisite experience.

Very Expensive But Perhaps Worth it for the Experience

I've traveled to Las Vegas for the last few years in January to attend the Mecum Motorcycle Auction which is held at the South Point Casino Hotel with over 700 motorcycles crossing the block. While staying there, I often passed the entrance to Michael's in the large hallway that leads to the room elevators from the casino, and noticed the beautiful beveled glass window door with a small Michael's sign over it. There's no evidence it's a restaurant, and there's no menu posted outside that door, and I've never seen anyone coming or going through it. So what the Hell, I was hungry and it looked intriguing, so I walked through the door expecting, well, I didn't know what to expect. There's a small bar counter to your right as you enter, no one was at the bar or in the entry area. Entering the door, I was quickly greeted by a nice man in a tux-like suit, who I believe was the restaurant manager. He asked me my name and if I was staying in the hotel. Giving him my name and room number, I was immediately ushered into the dark dining room, which is a couple of steps down. It's a very red room, consisting entirely of booths and tables with high back upholstered chairs around the walls and some in the center, with five white chandeliers hanging from the ceiling providing most of the dim lighting. The ceiling is dominated by a very large stained glass dome, which is pretty in light green panels with red rose garlands. It's a throwback to the 1960's exclusive restaurant ambiance. The booths and the walls are covered with a red velour material, the carpet a red floral pattern, and it's a classic steak house decor with lots of dark wood everywhere. The table covers are red covered with machine made white lace, and there's a silver colored single rose vase on each table. Like an old club room, there is a kind of timeless elegance to the place. Its appeal is probably limited to those whose life experiences include such a place in their past, and the diners were all mature. But it was comfortable and I thought it was interesting that such a place still existed. Even in Las Vegas. It's like you've entered another world. The only thing really lacking from my memory was a little lighted candle on every table. After being seated, a black suited waiter appeared and took my drink order for a Top Shelf Margarita ($22). It was acceptable but not particularly well mixed. I was then presented with two types of bread, both of them of the crispy cracker dry variety, one white and one dark. Neither of these was particularly good, and they left me wanting some soft warm french bread and some butter. Alas, my meal did not include it. Water was served even though I didn't request it. Eventually, a menu was presented for my selection of appetizer and entree. It was a bit of a shock to see the prices listed next to each offering, the entrees ran from $68 for fish to $96 for steak. I decided to order a Petite Filet Mignon ($72) with an ala carte baked potato ($17) and a Caesar Salad starter ($27). It seemed strange that an ordinary Caesar salad, although mixed in front of me at the table in a large bowl mounted on a service cart, would cost as much as a dinner entree at many a fine steak house elsewhere. Not that there was anything wrong with it, the dressing was good and the croutons crisp and plentiful. I felt obligated to eat the whole thing, while wishing for the soft french bread (or even an ordinary dinner roll) and butter to go with it. Exactly when the salad was consumed, the plate was promptly taken away and I was served a small lemon sorbet in a small glass, and the manager came over and poured a small amount of Dom Perignon champagne over it. That quickly consumed to clear the palate, it was replaced with my baked potato and filet mignon steak. I thought it odd that the potato was served with it's torn foil wrapper still in place. The small steak was perfectly cooked to medium as ordered, and was obviously of very high prime grade quality along with the bernaise sauce that accompanied it. Very good. Because I'd eaten all of the salad, by the time I got done with the entree I was too full to order any desert. Instead of desert, I was then presented with a medium sized silver bowl full of fresh fruit, including whole red and green apples, an orange, and large bunches of both red and green seedless grapes covering the fruit. In addition, a plate full of about ten chilled sweets like chocolate covered strawberries, and some unidentified chocolate dipped morsels, were left in front of me. I was too full to eat but a few of the grapes and none of the chocolate treats. Even without that desert, the bill was $174.25 for one person. Now, please don't think that Michael's is absolutely over priced, when you're paying for a large, beautifully appointed dining room, solid professionally competent servers, highest quality ingredients, and a lovely quiet ambiance that over all makes you feel quite special. It's not for everyone, and I have no regrets in paying for the experience. I'd reserve it for very special occasions, like a wedding, graduation, or other life changing event. One thing is for sure, you'll never forget your meal at Michael's. It is a rare and special place. I might repeat the experience next year. Bon Appetite!

Superb In Every Way!

This is a beautiful restaurant. It is about a $25.00 taxi ride from the Bellagio hotel area, but you will not be disappointed. Despite the rave reviews, we were still pleasantly surprised at the ambience and the beauty of this restaurant. While there were people dressed up, there were also plenty of people wearing jeans, so don't be worried about being underdressed. There are both booths and tables. The booths are U shaped and line the walls, and the tables are in the middle area. The chairs have such high backs that you could barely see the other guests eating at the tables. A relish tray was delivered almost immediately to the table with an assortment of olives, pickles, quail eggs, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc, along with a basket of large round crackers and baguette type toast. The service was impeccable. The waiters were always there when you needed them, but were discreet and didn't hover around. They allowed sufficient time between courses and didn't hurry you through the meal. They were all very pleasant. The food was amazing. They brought everything to the table and basically served it right from the pan (these servers work hard). The dover sole was the best we have had, and prepared tableside. The shrimp scampi was also terrific, and included six very large shrimp. In fact, I could only eat two of them. The side dishes were good as well. The food is very expensive (for example, $20 for soup, $88 for dover sole, $58.00 for shrimp scampi, and $12 for side dishes) but the quality of the food and the service that acompanies it make it well worth the price. When they rolled around the desert tray, all we could do was look at it because we were literally stuffed. The deserts looked wonderful though. Good thing we passed on the deserts, because they then brought us a complimentary plate filled with chocolate covered fruit, including strawberries, apples, bananas, etc. By the way, the chocolate they use tastes so good! As if this wasn't enough, they then brought out a large bowl filled with fruit, such as apples, oranges, grapes, etc. which made a beautiful presentation. We spoke with someone later about the restaurant, and they told us that the restaurant will pack up whatever fruit remains for you to take home. I'm sorry we didn't know that beforehand because we would have definitely taken the fruit (and the chocolate covered fruit) back to the hotel. Try to dine here at least once, and you won't be disapointed!

Felt like part of the Rat Pack

My wife LOVES the rat pack and when we found out this was a restaurant they ate at, I really wanted to take her. On top of it actually being preserved to the same styling was awesome. The value of the food though was not pleasing. It was a nice experience with good food but when considering price, we could have had much better. Overall was some what disappointed.

2011-08-22 18:37:45

Exquisite gem in town

I snuck my husband away for a weekend getaway that started at Michael's Gourmet Room. Course upon course upon course were presented. The veggie tray was a delight, as was the chocolates at the end of the meal. Our server went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and pampered. We'll be going back for sure!

Retro Vegas Elegance; Modern High End Price

We always enjoyed the food, service, atmosphere, and semi-hidden entrance door to Michael's when it was in the middle of the Strip in the old Barbary Coast, and nothing has been lost since it was relocated. As many Las Vegas afficionados know, Harrah's bought Barbary Coast some time ago. After casino owner Michael Gaughn's career moves, every single piece of vintage decor from Michael's (the restaurant) - from stained glass to plush red leather upholstery- was moved to the far south end of the Strip to South Point Casino / Resort. The food is still delicious and the service impeccable without having intrusive, overly-vivacious servers trying to strike up personal conservations like they're your new best friend. The menu may not be for everyone as it, too, is somewhat " retro " as far as being heavy and almost " American comfort food " at times (i. e, creamed corn as a vegetable and Bananas Foster as a dessert). But when you are ready to splurge, this is the place. You truly will feel like you have stepped back in time with the decor and dim lighting. Another aspect of dining here that is fun is the dress code. It truly is like Las Vegas in the old days that we hear (or may know) about. You have expect to see the people portrayed in the movie " Casino " to be at the booth across the room. This place is a dining experience. Do make a reservation. At least reservations are a little easier to come by than they used to be at Barbary Coast.

2014-03-01 12:08:04

The best meal we have ever had!!!

The restaurant originally was only for high rollers. They have since opened it to the public. It is expensive. However, the food is truly the best we have ever had and the service is beyond belief. Unfortunately, it has set the bar very high, we have never even had a close second to the quality of the food and service. If you want to really treat yourself, head to this restaurant and spend a little less time losing money at the casinos.

2013-01-24 12:05:30

Expensive but worth it!

We dined this January 2013 in one of the last true gourmet rooms in Las Vegas. Originally located in the Barbary Coast and now at South Point, they took the original stained & leaded glass doors and dome to the new location and with the red velvet booths and dark woods, they look lovely. Each table has a red rose and the room is adorned with vases of dozens of roses. A dress code is enforced. Plan to spend a few hours to dine as you are not rushed at Michael's (we were there for 3 hours). We were seated, left to relax and then the relish tray and bread basket were received. When we finished with that, then the menus were presented. We were given plenty of time to look it over before the head waiter appeared to see if we had questions. We ordered Dover Sole, not seen on too many menus anymore, and it was pricey ($88) but sooo worth it. The " show " alone when it was presented was worth part of the price. Table-side preparation for the caesar salad ($25) proved they know a TRUE Caesar, chopping up the anchovies into teeny pieces, the raw egg, lemon etc. made for a great appetizer. Dover de-boned tableside as well, watching a head waiter perform a true art! Between courses a sorbet is presented with Dom P. champagne poured over the top. Asparagus grilled tableside and presented hot and tasty! Lastly, in true Old Vegas style, the pastry cart is wheeled to your table for a grand selection of cakes, pies and berries. Once again, table-side prep on the berries with chambord, as the liquor is set aflame and poured onto the berries. Just when we thought we were done, compliments of the restaurant, out comes a tray of chocolate dipped fruits and a whole fruit bowl!! The food was amazing with flavors and fantastic sauces. The service is impecible but not intrusive. Almost everyone in the restaurant has been there for 10+ years. Head waiters are there for around 20, and the other waiters assisting have 10 years or so, so they KNOW service. When I was there in June 2012, I dined alone and felt very comfortable, not rushed to turn the table over etc. and was there for about 1.5 hours during which time Coach K from Duke came in to dine. This is a great place to go to get pampered, treated well, enjoy amazing cuisine and spend a special evening or create a memory for a special event. Quite, cozy, welcoming and not " stuffy " like some gourmet places can be. As a concierge in Las Vegas for over 30 years, I know I can always count on Michael's.

Truly What A High End Restaurant Should Be

The minute you step into Michael's dining excellence begins. You are seated in a very eloquent dining room with lace table cloths. Your are promptly greeted by your server who places a delicious basket of flat and dark crispy bread with a huge relish tray. We enjoyed the relish tray so much we did not go for any appetizers, however if we did the crab claws would of been the pick. A sorbet was served before the meal The menu choies are fantastic. We both chose the veal, (different styles). The portions great. presentation outstanding. Sides were fantastic. Desert choices were unbelieveable and very tasty. But to top that off a plate of chocolate covered fruit was served at the end and chocolate candy as we departed. Truly what a High End Dining Experience Should Be

5 Star Plus treatment

If you want to experience a true " Dining & Atmosphere " evening, do to Micheal's. It use tobe in the Old Barbary Coast, but has moved out past the Airport by about 5 miles, but so worht it. They had over 7 people waiting on our group of 8. Table service and the Food just does not stop. The Food, Desserts and even BOWLS of Fruit at the end of the meal was over the Top. Pricing was very reasonable for what we received. It owe to yourself to go at least once.

All I can say is WOW - Michael's is Fabulous!!!!!

Based on a recommendation, four of us selected Michael's as the place to eat during Valentine weekend. It not only met our expectations, but far exceeded them. Yes, it's a little pricy, but the food is so incredible and the service is even better. The steak was cooked perfectly, the Bernaise sauce divine, the vegetables savory, and the dessert cart is not for someone on a diet. Try the special salad, the special dessert. Just try it all. If you have a large party, order a little of everything, you won't regret. The service is the real star. Never in my life, have I been in a restaurant with such service. I won't give you the details, you need to experience it for yourself. An AAA++++ restaurant for everyone.

The Best Dining Experience that I have EVER had!!!

My boyfriend surprised me and took me to Michael's for dinner and this was probably one of the BEST dining experiences that I have EVER HAD and truly one of a kind in Vegas!!! We have lived here for almost 13 years and can't believe it took us this long to find this AMAZING place!!! It has an old school feel and only the head of the table (usually the man) will get a menu with prices... and that may be a good thing because I suspect some people would pass out at this point. The restaurant only seats 50 people and is intimate with Red Velvet everywhere. The service is unmatched and this is an EXPERIENCE where from start to finish, you are treated like Royalty. I would definitely sit back and enjoy the evening and savor every bite.... this is not a restaurant where you come to " just have dinner ". To start..... We ordered our drinks.... they do not have a drink menu but the server will assist you in choosing the best wine, beer or cocktail. Then the server brings a complimentary Bread Basket and a Crudite of beets, carrots, cucumbers and assorted pickles which were good. We ordered our entrees and we ordered the Filet Mignon and the Fresh Sea Bass. The Sea Bass was quite possibly the BEST Sea Bass that I have ever had. It had a beautiful sear and was cooked to perfection and the Filet Mignon was also very good.... although I do think that if you go to any high end steakhouse, you will get a great Filet. In between courses, they bring you a sorbet with Dom Perignon to cleanse your palate and for the desert, they bring out a complimentary plate of chocolate dipped fruits and a fresh fruit bowl that you would expect to see in one of the high end Las Vegas Suites. It is HUGE!!! Overall, again, this was one of the best dining experiences that I have had!!

Dinner With a Local Friend

1st Time visit to this restaurant and what can you say but WOW!! So much food served that you need help leaving the table. There were 3 of us for this dinner and my friend had not visited the restaurant in over 20 years. The Serving Staff where there immediately but not overbearing and great hosts. The restaurant was definitely going back to old Vegas style which we enjoy. Starting with the Anitpasta, Bread and Cream Cheese spread which could be a meal in themselves. We ordered the Shrimp Cocktail and it was one of the best I have had with all the appropriate condiments. We ordered the Veal Chop, Filet and Veal Piccata and all perfectly prepared. The Asparagus with the Holland Sauce was delicious. Went old school for dessert and had the Cherries Jubilee which was overpriced but fun. Overall our experience was fantastic even with the restaurant being very expensive. So for those special occasions this is a winner of a restaurant.

A quiet upscale restaurant with superb service and great food

A quiet upscale restaurant for an excellent meal in a decor reminding one of the 1950's red velvet and plush walls with generous seating. An attentive staff took care of our every need during dinner. An extensive wine list. Ample portions. We didn't leave hungry!

Once in a lifetime

Wow! We decided to have a nice dinner on our last night in Vegas and this was fantastic! Food portions are huge so I would recommend sharing if you can agree. I had the filet (best ever) and my husband had the sea bass. We shared an appetizer, asparagus and dessert. With two drinks and a well deserved tip our bill was $300. Service was top notch, atmosphere was definitely old Vegas, and all the extras made it a dinner to remember.

For my money the best place I have ever eaten

This place is old school Vegas. It used to be in the Barbary Coast across from Caesars before the hotel was torn down. It was then moved to South Points and it is a different world going from the cowboy casino to Michael's. From the time you walk in the door you just feel like you are not in the same place but maybe a time warp. From Jose at the door to Russell at your table you will not find a better dining experience anywhere. The service is beyond compare. A side note if you go to Michael's have the filet of Dover sole. It is more than worth the experience and I swear they can make the fish taste like you are eating chocolate. Save room for dessert because their dessert cart is worth waiting for. Just a first class place the whole way around with first class people.

Like a throwback to the past with the best food and surprises included

I read the first review about this being the best restaurant in LV and thought I had already reviewed them. It is an incredible throwback to the 1920's with a somewhat limited menu, but that is a good thing for once. The last thing you need is more choices than what they offer. I won't give away any of the secrets, but the food, service and ambience are impeccable. The fact that one other owner of another casino was there with his party should tell you something. Great place to pop the question (NO! You don't want a divorce, stupid! Definitely pricey but if you know anything about food and restaurants you know why. You owe yourself at least (or make the kids take you) once and don't carp about the check. Make sure the women and designated attendees get a menu with no prices. The best food anywhere in the world is not ordered right to left!!!

The Best Restaurant Experience of my Life

Years ago I worked many Trade Shows and went to Las Vegas twice yearly. While there and other cities I was fortunate to experience many 5 Star Restaurants. Of all these Dining Experiences, MICHAEL'S GOURMET ROOM, impressed me the most. The Food (Dover Sole flown in from UK) was superb, Presentation outstanding. Our first course was a giant mound of ice in the middle of the table, stuffed with Fresh shell fish.. We were a group of 8 people. The service perfect. Several waiters per table who were attentive yet not obtrusive. Our glasses magically remained filled. Our napkins replaced with each new course. I believe it is located in the Barbary and I will never forget this experience.

Best in Vegas so far

We found this place through googling and even though it was a 15 min cab ride it was worth it. When i first looked at the menu i thought the prices were high but the steaks that we orderd were a good size and cooked to our liking. The service was 5 star and we will recomend Michael, s to all our friends that go to Vegas

Simply the Best

This is simply the best Steakhouse we've ever enjoyed and we've enjoyed them all around the world. Yes, it is expensive but you get what you pay for and more. This last visit was just as incredible as all of the others. Everything on the menu is fantastic. We particularly enjoy the stone crab when it is in season. They serve claws the size of a fist that are cooked, chilled and served perfectly. The steak is top notch prime and the seafood is outstanding. Best sea bass and Dover sole we've ever had. The atmosphere is old school Vegas that is tucked away in the heart of the South Point. The staff is just as old school as the setting. They are just the best from the Matre' De down to the busboys, you can't find a better service staff anywhere; not just Vegas, we mean anywhere.

AMAZING ambience, service and food

We researched every restaurant in Las Vegas as we are foodies and not only wanted good food but an old school experience. It's lots of red velvet booth style seating and you swear Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin will be at the next turn as soon as you walk in. As soon as we're seated, a relish tray is delivered to our table with parmesan crusted bread. Delicious. The wine list is nice and there's a captains list you can request for higher end wines. It did not disappoint. The menu was explained in detail, another old school feature is that only my husband's menu had the prices listed. There's a pricey upcharge for splitting an entree so we opted to both order. Prior to our main entree arriving, we were served a palate cleanser of lemon sorbet floating in Dom Perignon - it was wonderful. I had the salmon and my husband had the petite filet. Both were mouth watering delicious. The meals were finished tableside which was a great experience. As soon as we finished, the dessert cart was wheeled and there are so many options but we chose not to partake. Our waiter said we weren't getting off that light and a fruit basket along with fresh chocolate dipped fruit was placed on our table. Just the right finish to the amazing dinner. If you're looking for the most perfect dining experience in Vegas, Michael's is a must. This will be a definite stop on every future Vegas trip for us.

Bring your checkbook for this great experience

Michael's Steak House has long had the reputation of being one of the best restaurants in Las Vegas. The ambiance and service is absolutely second to none You will never be waited on like you will be at Michael's as our dinner actually lasted for 3 hours.. The food was absolutely outstanding. However when going to Michael's you had better bring your checkbook as the prices are out of sight, with most entrees alone starting at $80. Being in a Casino, means that most people served are probably comped guests of the house. But for that special occasion, it can't be beat.

Very surprised at the quality of Michaels!

We had three appys that were fabulous. We should of stopped there but we also split a sea bass dinner. They brought crackers and cheese and a large tray of pickles, olives, tiny little yummy eggs and more cheese. So much food! Well prepared, dinner was finished off table side. Great service! We said no to dessert but the chef sent out chocolate dipped fruit and a large bowl of fruit. Just wonderful!
