NOT VERY MEXICAN
Bodega markets itself as a Mexican restaurant but the food is no where near Mexican in style and flavour and quite expensive.
Great food but skimpy portions
Sandwiches are the main thing during these troubles and I could not fault the ingredients, with great bread and cheese and salami and such a tasty sandwich overall, although they really skimped on the fillings. Much worse than Continental Deli's skimping but it was a bit cheaper so just about worth it. The albondigas were even better - you could taste the mint and sweet Mexican flavour (I would have liked some chilli but it was still a unique flavour) and even the mash it was on was a cut above, however, they went heavy on the mash with just 5 small meatballs and only a small amount of the tomato sauce. Great food though, better food and also better value than I got from their sister Porteño.
Great service with very friendly staff!
Great service with very friendly staff! Adam and the other servers were so nice and the food was excellent as well. Sharing plates was the experience, and the wine selection was fantastic.
Great breakfast optiosn
This place had a great breakfast menu with options for everyone and great coffee. The whole vibe of the place is great. The service exceeded expectations and we would definitely come back. The servings are very generous and between 2 adults and 2 children and 3 plates it was plenty. The mushroom and guyere melt was a standout.
Ok so we tried this place
Ok so we tried this place for breakfast. I unfortunately chose the salmon and asparagus omelette. After 40 mins waiting it arrived on a kids plate with a portion about kids size. 2 eggs and a sliver of salmon. That's about 10 dollars an egg. No asparagus to be seen. All in all a poor effort.
Great tapas restaurant
Located inside the trams sheds the food served at this restaurant is excellent. The flavours & variety of dishes are excellent & sure to excite all taste buds
First Rate Food, Wine, Service
Recently visited on my own. The restaurant has a seating area plus the bar. I sat at the bar. The calamari was delicious as was the tiramisu. The bar tender was friendly, professional and attentive. First rate food, wine, service.
Enjoyable Evening
We have visited this restaurant once for breakfast so decided to try it for dinner and were not disappointed We started with Pulpo (octopus) with green tomato dressing and Ceviche Kingfish followed by sliced and marinated Waguu The dishes were certainly different but very tasty and were thoroughly enjoyed Added to that was a very good wine list to make our meal complete
Some dessert and coffee
We caught up with my sister in law for some dessert as she'd already had lunch. Hubby & I had Burnt Milk Custard and baked cinnamon. apple.
Long chatty lunch
Good atmosphere - good wine list. My guests and I enjoyed the food. Sommelier was lovely and knowledgeable. Good for two or ten!
Excellent produce amazing taste
My partner and I stopped in for breakfast. We dined at the bar and our wait staff were excellent - friendly and responsive. Coffee was really good. We both had the potato cake, sausage, bacon and egg which sounds and I have to admit looks pretty boring but it was amazing. The flavours packed into the sausage and bacon were awesome - one of the best bacon and eggs I can recall having. Could fault the flavours serving and the nice herb bread. I'll go back.
Great food & wine
We tried several dishes & all were delicious, particularly the lamb rump. Good selection of wines accompanied with good advice. Friendly & attentive service. Will definitely be back.
Nice little bite
We went on a quiet Tuesday afternoon - We loved the wine suggestion and enjoyed the nibbles - we ordered the cheese plate and calamari. The staff were super attentive and there was a really cool mod diner vibe. Would visit again for similar experience 🍷
They rip you off and not South American at all
Food average and ridiculous prices. The worst it was the staff offering us extra bread for our Bite left of cheese, literally 1 Bite. And charging us extra for a slice of bread. It was clear they are pushing to sell and rip you off as much as they can. First place I ever feel like that in Australia. Not a good experience at all.
Oh dear
Not sure what is going on at this restaurant. I ordered the lamb when I went about 3 weeks ago and it was stunning. So went back with friends and recommended the lamb. 3 friends orders it at $44 a plate. When it arrived it was completely different from the plate I'd ordered from the first visit. It was just lamb fat. Couldn't eat it. A plate of food that wasn't actually worth $5. The remaining plates were ok, but at $80 ahead (two bottles of wine and one main each with 2 sides) it was not a great experience. One waiter was cool but the others were lackadaisical- not interested. Would I go back? NO.
Overpriced, small menu
Not impressed with the food, nor the prices. Not going again. Service was OK, but not commensurate with the cost. Very noisy.
Great service and food
Went for a cocktail on a Sunday afternoon and stayed to the end of service - love sitting at the bar and wathiching kitchen service - great cocktail and wine suggestions by the bar staff and amazingly tasty nibbles - morcilla bao outstanding as were the oysters mignotte ! Will be back
Not as impressed as everyone else seems to be
We went here for my cousin's birthday and had the $70 degustation menu. There is plenty of food, but in a multiple course meal, only one stand out dish. Lots of attempting 'taste sensations' that fell short. I don't think it was worth the money, and no-one in our party completely raved about the meal. For $100 a person (including drinks), you can get a better meal elsewhere.
Could not fault the level of service
Had heard many good things about this place so booked an early seat at the counter and was surprised at the attentiveness of the staff, the chance to taste a wine before buying, and the selection from the menu. Started with a roast fig and cheese dish and followed with some lamb ribs. Helped with a rioja temperanillo.
Wow... absolute taste sensation!!!
Went last night and randomly choose to eat here from the many eateries at Transheds. It was just DELICIOUS. The staff were warm, friendly and attentive. The food was on another level. I was waiting for one average dish but none disappointed. We had two entrees; the Cured kingfish, wild rocket, grapefruit and juniper and the other entree was the Ricotta gnocchi, zucchini flowers, lemon chervil, salted green chilli. Mamamia I've never tasted such flavours. We ordered the Five spiced Mirrool Creek lamb ribs, cucumber and fennel salsa for main and it was AMAZING. I'll be going back, highly recommend this place and sitting at the bar on the comfy green bar stools was great. So impressed, such a lovely experience. Thank you all!!
Not worth a visit & staff try to rip you off
I booked a table for 4 for a birthday dinner. On arrival staff told us to cut a birthday cake it was $8. Our waiter told us $10. We ordered mains and sides to share. Food okay but this is not fitting of a South American restaurant, more like they are trying to do 'fine dining' but without the fine. After finishing our meals, I asked another waiter about our cake and was told $4 per person. Ruined the evening for us. This place is overpriced, pretentious and trying to rip you off in any way they can. Very disappointing experience.
Excellent food and great wine menu
Simply a great dining experience and unpretentious bistro. I had two entrees and surprised the servings were generous. The duck pate with lentil pita bread was excellent, the pate was smooth and gentle, not overwhelming as some pate can be. The prawn linguine was fresh, tasty and light. I thoroughly enjoyed a glass of rose' with an interesting golden colour tone. Definitely a place to return with friends to sample more of what the menu offers.
Tasty but not great value for money
I had a gnawing sense that I was being fleeced. Isn't Tapas supposed to be little snacks at little snack prices?
This place must have changed hands, Dissapointing
The last time we were here would have been approx 12 months ago, it was great with wonderful food and a fabulous cocktail menu. Last night we decided to go there as it had been awhile.. what a mistake. When we arrived there was all different wait staff, who were very inattentive. Menu totally different and no cocktails anymore. The gnocchi was so gluey and stodgy. The mussels were so salty and inedible. Don't bother going its over priced and food terrible.
Good for a drink - or for a meal with interesting wines
The staff here are very welcoming and attentive to just the right degree. The gnocchi dish is substantial and you can try several wines before making a selection. So, it's a good place at Tramsheds for a drink or for a meal.
$28 tapas
Yawn, poncy table service in the tramsheds. Completely out of place. Ordered the sausages from mains and burger. They served both on tapas sized plate and dish. Food was magnificent but a let down as far as enjoying a nice " meal "
Great service and meal
We stopped here completely randomly and had a fantastic lunch. The service is way, way above average and it was a pleasure to be treated like that. We had a mix of shared dishes for lunch and the food was superb. I'm coming back.
Great service excellent chats on various exquisite alcohol beverages
Loved our meals tonight! The eggplant salad, steak tartare and slow cooked lamb was sensational! The dessert was to die for. Quince burnt butter tart with vanilla ice cream - yum!!!
$70 banquet great
Food was beautiful!!! And plenty!!!! But. We had a seating at 8:30pm. The food came out before our drinks. And all the plates came out to share that they couldn't fit on table and were getting cold. Had to ask the waitress to slow down. Had a beautiful spritz to start and asked for another. It was completely different and so too the next two they tried to make. Asked for a caprioska and that was so bitter. But the food was lovely. Don't think i would go back though. Sorry!
Overpriced & confusing flavours
Went for dinner with 2 other people and ordered some starters and mains.... 1. It's overpriced for what it was 2. Flavors are confusing.... why did the octopus dish have pork sausages and pork crackling when the star of the dish is octopus??? Why was the eggplant crumbed in a thick crust and super oily??? Why was the side salad literally thrown together with the fish??? 3. The flavors and dishes were conflicting and it altered the whole experience Overall overpriced and unworth it Try it once to judge for yourself but I wont be coming back
Fantastic
We called in for a drink and ended up staying and dining, the calamari and prawns were first class and the donuts and chocolate ice cream, wow! Thanks to our host Matt we had a very memorable afternoon and look forward to returning.
Sad lunch
My partner & I were keen to try Tramsheds not being overly sure of what was there. Unfortunately, we made the mistake of trying Bodega 1904. My partners hamburger @$18 was tasteless, & bland. My Eggplant Parmagiana @ $26 was cooked within an inch of its life & very disappointing ! Overall I would NOT recommend eating here.
We left still hungry and very unsatisfied
We went to Bodega 1904 today for an early lunch, we were so excited to try out the menu. We were really disappointed. If I had to rate this place it's between 1.5 to 2.5. It wasn't great. I ordered my kids the cheeseburger and calamari off the kids menu. The kids enjoyed the cheeseburger, but the calamari was really not edible. I wouldn't call it calamari even. Calamari is usually soft, melt in your mouth, crispy and lightly seasoned. This was so over seasoned with I don't even know what, a mix of dukkah, lots of cayenne pepper, paprika and cumin. I don't know what but my kids wouldn't eat it. There wasn't even any aioli to balance it out. We sent this back and ordered another cheese burger. I ordered rock oysters, tomato salad with ricotta cheese and black sausage. I am a big fan of tomatoes but I really did not enjoy this salad. The tomatoes have clearly been left in the fridge, they were sliced very thinly, soft, cold and watery and lacked any flavour or texture whatsoever. So bad. Unforgivable really. The black sausage really didn't do anything for me. My husband is Sth American and I love a good black pudding but this just lacked all the flavour and crispiness that a traditional black pudding has. It was kinda boring, and even though I was really hungry, I had a hard time eating this meal. The chimmi churro was nice. Not sure if the yogurt works with this dish. Rich on top of rich doesn't really work. I always waited along time for my meal. The kids meals were out at least 20mins before my meal came out, I ordered 3 dishes you think at least one could have been sent out during this time. Pretty expensive meal overall $102 for small portions that left us all still hungry and a lot left to be desired. Such a shame, good location, nice fitout and good wait staff, but I really can't see this restaurant being around for very long if it continues like this. Not sure who is cooking in the kids kitchen but I won't be back.
$110 for really bad food!
$110 for: - a COLD portion of sourdough bread; - kimchi tartare (because was 90% kimchi and 10% beef) ; - REALLY spiced corn flakes and spanner crab; - Fried calamari with some terrible and strong crispy flavor (which it is not even mentioned on the menu!) ; - Worst Malbec that I had in ages. I actually appreciated the " Roasted goats cheese " and a glass of Riesling. I went to try this different and new place for so many reasons, but basically ordering the same thing I'd order anywhere. They literately gave me the worst food experience of the year so far. I wonder how a portion of cold bread is served for people. And charged $4 for person for it! The food was so bad and not enjoyable, that I actually needed to cancel my last main meal, what should be a " Grass fed hanger steak ". I was afraid if I would start to hate steaks after that meal. I'm South American and I've got to say that this place it's DEFINITELY not a " Latin American-inspired tapas ". Just to start, bread is not cold in restaurants. And the best is: it's free! If you want good food and keen to pay $110, please go somewhere else!
Lunch from my Daughter For my Birthday..
The food was all lovely.... Dips with lovely bread, egg plant, Barramundi.... spritz drink.... we sat at the bar... great service.....
Not worth it.
A funky, comfortable looking place with an interesting sounding menu - that is where it stopped unfortunately. The dishes are overpriced, the wine even more so! We are traditional Chardonnay drinkers and we had to pay $100 (public holiday surcharge included) to get a decent one! We started with a fresh Merimbula oyster which was delicious - but not really due to them. Then we had the beef tartare lettuce cup - weird flavour combination. The king prawns - dry and over cooked. The steak with potatoes - also over cooked! The waitress said the chef serves it medium rare, it was more like medium well!! A good cut of meat ruined. The staff seemed a little preoccupied with themselves, apart from the hostess who was lovely, an American girl who obviously has more hospitality experience than her colleagues... we won't return.
Won't be back
Food is severely overpriced. " Cold cuts " were three thin slices of each of two different deli meats. No work done to them. Likewise " heirloom tomatoes " (which arrived 5 minutes after we'd finished everything else) had minimal intervention from the kitchen and what had been done was imprecise. Overall dramatically overpriced and unsurprisingly almost empty. NOT tapas, as advertised.
Bodega 1904 - What a fantastic Tapas, Wine and Cocktail Restaurant A+++++
Our first visit to the Tramsheds, with a walk around each of the offerings and we chose 1904, which was a great choice. We chose to sit at the bar stools rather than the restaurant tables and had a great time, with the experienced bar and restaurant staff. The staff are well versed in the wines that are sold and prepare great cocktails, to be able to taste most wines is not usually on offer, but great to learn and try something different. The food was fantastic, we chose five (5) tapas offerings including the Chorizo, Pork and Prawns, simply delicious. A great experience for our first time at the Tramsheds which we are sure to return and enjoy 1904 food and wine experience.
Go somewhere else
Was looking forward to visiting this destination. Overall the experience was pretty ordinary. Great waitstaff but the food let things down. Fairly pedestrian in most ways. The shared platters were ordinary but some of the small tapas dishes were great
Brilliant food - unique setting
Located in an old farmhouse, we had a little trouble finding the place since our Uber driver took us to the back entrance of an old farmhouse.. however once we found what we were looking for, we were in for a treat of proportions.. the staff super attentive, the food well prepared and incredibly tasty and the surroundings truly unique.. all in all a fantastic dinner soon to be repeated. Not an overly romantic location, but we were 3 colleagues out for dinner, so not required.... and did I mention that the food was phenomenal..?
Family dinner out
Nice new restaurant in the amazing Tram Sheds - love the selection of food & wine available. Great wine selection, nice bar area to be able to at or restaurant area.
Consistently good
Having eaten at Bodega 1904 a few times now I can say it has been consistently good. The service has been warm and friendly, with the wait staff knowledgeable about the food and wines available. The most recent visit was just after Christmas, and we decided to have the trout, and this was a delight. There was barely a scrap left on the bones. This was washed down with a lovely rosé. It tends to be a little pricey, but I'm happy to pay for good quality food and service. Will be going back there again.
Lamb Rump Lunch - but be wary of the weather!
Was in the area and dropped in for a quick bite. The Tram Sheds has about 10-12 cafes / restaurants to choose from, so a destination in itself. We were there on about the first hot day of summer, and it was evident that the weather must play a huge part on the viability of the entire centre. No cooling, and presumably no heating in winter. Inside it was hot and stuffy, and outside pretty much the same, albeit slightly cooler! Anyhooo we chose this one for no apparent reason and i had the lamb rump with kale. The lamb was good, and the kale was outstanding with the right dressing. Very happy with the meal. (was guided towards a steak by the very pleasant waitress who self described herself as a " meat eater " which I (and she) would suggest is not that common in the area. My colleague had the rainbow trout and demolished it in no time, advising it was as good as it gets! Well worth visiting not only Bodega but the centre as well, however suggest Spring and Autumn would be the best time to go!
Good venue
I've been a few times and overall I do like it here. The food is a little varied in quality with some great dishes and some bland ones. I don't like that they are charging $16 for a very small glass of wine. That always puts me off. The bar / counter are is very attractive and the staff are all good. Like all the places in the tramsheds, it's an 'almost'..
Hit and miss
I was pretty eager to give this place a try, it ranked high on the tapas lists in Sydney. However, it was pretty bland, or overly ambitious and weird which I like but it wasn't good weird, it was just nar that combo doesn't work. (duck and scallops? tasted wrong).. the fish fingers were exceptional, if they are on the menu get stuck into them. Also, someone has to do something about that decor, it just didn't feel right.
Enjoyable dinner
The menu keeps changing and quality of food stays very high. Service is terrific and entertaining. This time we had a chance to sit in the middle on chairs (rather than on one of the couches) and chairs would have benefited from pillows. Trout (special of the day) was absolutely beautiful, as well as, eggplants, cauliflower, chorizo and slow cooked lamb. Still a great place to visit!
Dinner - chef's menu
The design and layout of the restaurant is beutifule. We chose the chef's menu option - and the Tapas start coming your table.. Some of them were great and delicious, some ok only (blood cake, lamb). The service was great, and in general it was a good experience
Great find
With friendly, knowledgeable staff to help us through the many food and wine choices, had a great range of dishes which we shared among 4. Couldn't fault any of the seafood or meat dishes and tempting desserts as well. Casual but classy, a relaxed dining experience. Sits about middle+ of Sydney restaurant price range. Definitely somewhere to return to.
Perfect place for a weeknight wine!
We sat at the bar (very cool and comfy stools) and just ordered wine - no food. We were only going to stay for 1 but the service was so good and the atmosphere was so nice that we just kept getting refills. We ended up staying for 4! Would highly recommend for a pop-in wine or two. The food also looked amazing.
It was worth a second visit
We had been before and enjoyed the menu much more than this time - the menu is actually quite limited. So much so, the 3 options for desserts didn't appeal at all. The service however is EXCELLENT. The staff have a real Genuine interest in providing a hospitable service. All smiles and warm welcomes, you can't fault them!! The food we had was ok but we wouldn't go back again. We thought it was quite expensive also. The best thing I ate was the hand made butter - dangerously good.
Easy lunch
Excellent steak tartare, crab also brilliant, enjoyed it all, especially on a week day where it is not as busy
Beef Tartare to Die For
I keep coming back to this restaurant. I ask myself why? Is it the the option to sit at the bar and exchange repartee with the staff; is it the small but very excellently constructed menu; is it the masterfully prepared food on the plate; is it the great wine list; or, has the choice of sound track totally seduced me? I shall have to just keep coming back while I ponder this profound philosophic challenge. I wasn't sure about the wine, so the wait staff showed me four wines until I was totally satisfied. just love sitting at a bar and having ongoing interaction thoughout the meal. This is the style of dining where you could dine alone, as well as dine in a group, it seems to best suit a twosome because you are sitting side to side. The menu traverses a series of suprises. Check out these Share Plates: Beef Tartare on a bed of Creme Fraiche, cripy onion, rocket and bottarga; and, Charcoal grilled whole baby chicken, warm smokey egglant and fennel. You can begin with Tapas, progress to Share Plates; select some Side Dishes; and finish off with Dessert, how does Frozen mandarin, lime mamalade, coconut sorbet sound. All this you can wash down with a selection from their excellent wine menu. We chose a very nice Pinot Noir. I always love the opportunity to observe the kitchen as theatre and the chefs as actors on this stage, 1904 doesn't disappoint. Lunchtime is as much a satisfying dining experience as dinner. I love the the weekends when the whole space is abuzz with the happy sounds of diners. Next time I choose this restaurant I will select the Banquet option for $70 per person. Parking is easy, first two hours free, then after six free. Toilets are clean and accessible.
Tapas on the bar
Amazing tapas while sitting at the bar, great service, best variety of drinks and food was delicious. Great Vibe for friends to catch up and nibble on fine food while drinking! Customer service was excellent, knowledge of food and alcohol was on point.
Excellent food, excellent service
I have eaten here 4 times, and I won't be stopping at 4. Yesterday, my husband and I ate at Bodega for lunch. We had 3 courses. We started with 2 Tapas (the spanner crab brioche mini rolls, followed by the garlic prawn- both sensational). For main we shared the octopus, followed by the lamb and the roasted cauliflower salad, all excellent. We squeezed in dessert too, both very nice and flavoursome. We finished off with a Sherry. The service here is always good. In terms of price, you pay for what you get, this is mid range in terms of cost. 3 courses and 4 glasses of wine in total, worked out at $100 per head. I would not hesitate to eat here again or to recommend to friends etc.
Fine dining feel in a casual atmosphere
Had a brilliant meal here with some close friends for my wife's birthday. The service was excellent and we sampled a few different wines from the extensive wine list including the rich Albariño. Highlights in our selection included the smoked pork sausage in a bun, the slow cooked lamb and the whole baby chicken which was exceptionally tender and tasty. The only niggle was that our butterflied king prawns were a touch overcooked and a little hard to pick from the shells. However, the sides were brilliant including the cauliflower and the coconut and mandarin sorbet to finish was exceptional. Service was friendly and attentive.
Different but expensive
Unusual setting at the old Tramsheds - Nice vibrant atmosphere at night. Was about a 30 minute ride on the metro. Very expensive for what you get in terms of food and wine. Would recommend one visit, but probably not two.
Friendly staff and gorgeous food
We visited the tramsheds location, and quickly spotted this tapas bar and knew it was the place for us. My dairy allergic son was catered for, and enjoyed sharing grilled prawns, jamon and teeny tiny olives. We added some devine beef croquettes and some gorgeous glasses of wine. Jeremy looked after us with enthusiasm, displaying friendly expert knowledge of the food and wine. We will definitely recommend.
Boy what a treat!
Had a super lunch at the bar. Friendly service. Best French fries have tasted for a long time. Not withstanding the prawns and chargrilled octopus were also done to perfection.
Hot, Hot, Hot
The mercury had hit 40 degrees so we thought a visit to the Tramshed might cool us down. The food was excellent, everything we ate was delicious. The tartare was tangy, the queso fresco creamy and the sausage smoky pork delight. Desserts were accomolished and enjoyable. A good wine list with by the glass selections was a plus. What was a downer was the cooling system at the tramshed, it was inadequate at best and we sweltered at the bar, which was cooler than the restaurant. Will return just not on a hot day.
Great tapas, cool location
I visited for lunch and wanted to sample the menu so I chose three tapas. The smoked eggplant, caramalised baby onions, goats milk feta was excellent with lots of smokey flavour in the eggplant. Tartare of rosedale ruby rump, creme fraiche, rocket, bottarga, crispy eschalot was one of my favourite tartares ever. The crispy eschalots gave a nice texture contrast. I'd heard the spiced blood cake, mojo verde, yoghurt was something special and it was. I was expecting something dense like a sausage however it came out light and fluffy like a nicely roasted foie gras. Service at the bar stools was good with dishes coming at a good pace. I would definitely return to try more of the menu.
Great Second Visit
This was my second visit and I am glad I held off reviewing as the first was disappointing. I went for lunch on a Friday with 2 friends, the service was good and relaxed / friendly. They forgot my coffee and I forgot to check if I was charged for it or not (hope not), but that's my only complaint. The food was outstanding, venue really pleasant with a great vibe. However when we went for dinner a few weeks ago our experience was not great. We were rushed the whole time. We knew what time we had to be out as we were advised when we booked, and reminded when we arrived and reminded when we ordered coffee. We left a good 30 minutes before the table time out but we left feeling like the staff was just happy to see us leave. It felt like they were under way too much pressure to turn over the tables. Plus the music was way too loud. It was more night club than restaurant (is this a sign of my old age and desire to talk over my meal). The menu has changed since the night we went and the new menu is significantly better and the portion sizes are also much bigger. I only went back a second time as a friend was keen to go. Frankly I was dreading it; expecting expensive, small, fiddly plates of not so interesting meals. However I was delighted by the change and will now go back again.
Very pleasant lunch in excellent venue
Organised to meet friends for lunch Booked and were given a booth which was very pleasant Waitress was very pleasant and as we hadn't been before explained menu and offered advice We shared 4 tapas dishes and two sharing plates Food was interesting, well presented and full of flavour We agreed that the eggplant tapas and the two mains, asparagus and octopus, were the standouts. Wines were interesting but expensive Would definitely return
