Great
Very good beer. Very nice folks. What more do you need? We had the blood orange wheat beer which tasted like wheat beer but also easy to get the blood orange.
Closed??
We stopped in at 8:24 to grab a burger and a beer and as soon as we entered we were told " WE ARE CLOSED! " And I was a bit taken aback as the website said that this restaurant closes at 9:00. When I inquired as to why they were closed when the website AND the info on the door stated that closing was at 9:00…. the young wkman just shrugged her shoulders.
Cool place with outdoor seating
The beer was great. Nice outdoor seating and right along a train track. They are dog friendly too. I'm not sure if it's just a covid thing, but they have a food truck. We went on a Friday night and they had an AMAZING Mexican food truck. So good! Nachos came on a glass plate and they delivered to our table. If you are staying in the area i would definitely suggest checking this place out!!
great pub atmosphere by the railroad tracks
great local hangout especially on summer nights and unique setting where you can down your pint feet away form the Surfliner Express.
Take out only
It is difficult for small owners to survive but Island is making the best of it with takeout only and friendly staff. They also offer merchandise for sale.
Cheers, belly up, hang around, plus an occasional train!
Cheers, belly up, hang around, plus an occasional train! Quirky location, down a long path way from Linden. Just look for the railroad track and wander down to the Island Brewing Company. Friendly brew staff that assist in making a beer selection from the many beer choices. I had the Avocado Honey Ale, after all I was in Carpinteria that has an annual Avocado festival. Seating is inside or under umbrellas near the train track. I was very disappointed that I missed the trains that frequently pass by, adding a bit of vibration and character to the location. Perhaps next time. Clean restrooms, friendly, many beer choices, and a sunny Carpinteria day. Very close to the ocean.
On track for a Great Beer
A very cool location at the front of an industrial complex with a State park and evening sunset beyond the patio, and passing Surfliner / Coaster trains to lift a glass too when they zoom past. The Avocado Honey Ale was a first for us. Not green. Really smooth. Had several of them with our new buds who had bicycled from Vancouver and were bellied up to the Island Brewing bar beside us. Mutual friends and great stories. Pedal for the day... craft brew it at night. 5 weeks of it. And they just walked to their tent at the State Park. Other locals joined in the conversation. Good tidbits on topics of the day... insights into favourite beers. It's refreshing to go anywhere without big screen sports, News channels or loud music (on this night anyways). The servers were great and conversation could be heard. The town itself is easy to navigate. Island Brewing to some of the hotels is a 5 block walk so cars and bikes can be parked and goodtimes can roll. Nice merchandise too. My wife picked up a great shirt.
Great food, not a beer drinker so can't speak for the beer
Took my daughter out to dinner here while on vacation in Carpinteria. The food was delicious and the setting was open and breezy. I can't speak to the beer, but it was a very cheery spot to have dinner.
Have a beer here!
Fun local brewery right by the railroad tracks. Good selection of beers to choose from, friendly staff, and lots of places to sit outside (or inside). Lots of locals walking their dogs were there and little kids too. Fun place.
Awesome Sunset
The Brewery is really cool. Local hangout. Beer was really good. The sunset was absolutely awesome and relaxing after a day at work.
Limited Access
This is not the place to choose if you walk with the aid of a stick or have other mobility challenges and cannot climb up onto the stools. The staff were less than helpful and stated that there was one table with chairs but it was occupied. It was then suggested that we could try coming on another night and perhaps the table would be available!!No effort was made to make us feel welcome. I was embarrassed, upset and we promptly left as customers were beginning to stare. This is not what tourists on holiday really want to encounter.
October ambience didn't work for me
I have no doubt that in summer this is a place to be. The wide open doors will allow views across the railroad tracks and grass to the ocean shore. The warm air will combine with the food and drinks on offer and it will feel just right. In early October, mid-week, this didn't really come off. It was empty, rattling and over-awed by the loud TV's. We didn't stay long. But, as I said, at another time of the year this will be just fine.
Good Beer, Great Location, Cool Atmosphere
Not really much else to say but I need to meet the minimum. Staff is very friendly and the beer is good across the board. Games & " stuff " in the back to keep the kids entertained if you want to bring them to the brewery with you. Very laid back. No food options.
A " Fun " place to Hang Out
A locals place. definitely!! Right next to the RR tracks... Good Food and Locally micro-brewed beers served. A " Fun " place to visit!
This has that local feel
Newly expanded, and now there is plenty of room to find a table to share a beer with friends. What a friendly place, and you get great beers to go with it. No food, except on some nights there will be a gourmet food truck.
Local Beer Place
well if you like to chill and enjoy a beer with the locals, this is the place to be. superb place, enjoy the sunset too, some times they have truck food or tacos which they are great too or you can order and have it deliver to you,
Socialize and drink beer
This was great so close to our little rental home. Great service, excellent beer and food. Such a fun and happy atmosphere.
Great Beer and Great Location
Really enjoyed spending an afternoon in this seaside brewery. Between two of us we tasted every beer they had via their samplers. Place is tucked back off the street and next to the train tracks but the atmosphere is really cool. No food to speak of but can't complain about the beer as there is something for every palate.
Nice evening outside!
Friends with whom we're staying live close so we walked over after a day of shenanigans. The beer was cold and delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. Give it a try!
Unique Venue
This brewery had very good beer and a unique venue. It is in Carpinteria, California which is a quirky little town all by itself. The brewery sits besides the railroad tracks and you can drink beer and watch the local Amtrak come in. Great atmosphere and a lot of locals.
Best Brewery Around
Hands down, Island Brewery is the best Brewery in Carp, as well as SB and beyond. The Avocado Honey and Blonde Ales are my personal favorites, coupled with their phenomenal location just blocks from the beach and always attentive staff, plus the recent remodel, this is by far the best Brewery in a small town with 2 others just minutes away. I could on about how great Island Brewing Co, but you must simply go for yourself. Don't miss out on the rotating list of food trucks rolling through either - which is the only downside, not having food offered other than free pretzels n chips for purchase. Thanks for the many refreshments over the years! Best, ~S
Great Beer and Atmosphere
Great Beer, check their website for food truck calendar. Or follow on Instagram to see all the lastest from IBC
Relaxing place for a beer
Good selections of micro brews. Casual and friendly atmosphere. Games available to play. Would be 5 star if there were some free snacks on the tables or a little cheaper prices, but it is well worth checking out.
Beer on the patio
Been coming to Island Brewing for years since they started up 15 years ago; always a great experience. They have doubled / expanded their patio and indoor seating, and it is a great setting. The beer lineup is awesome; they're were 11 available on tap and the ones we drank were excellent.
Love love love the beer!
The beer is second to none. definitely my favorite beer in the 805. There's a great family feeling, great service and good music. It's also cool that food trucks pull out back for a quick bite.
Beer me
Anniversary was the best. The best brewery in Carpinteria. Hands down. The food trucks are awesome. Great atmosphere.
Our Son said this was a must-do!
He was right! The Island had fantastic craft brews and some live music. No food is served, but can be ordered through a smoker / grill concession set up in their lot. Pet-friendly, child-friendly and definitely locals come out in force. Sits right next to the State Beach by the tracks so there are views of the ocean. A definite Recommend!
Wide range of brews and styles
My husband loved their Island IPA and I am a fan of their stout (it is so hard to find a good stout since everyone wants the more popular IPAs). They have lagers, session beers, and ales as well. Friendly service. If you sit outside ind the setting sun you can get the additional treat of the Amtrack Startlight express as it goes by as well as commuter trains.
Delicious beers, great value!
I'm so glad a friend recommended this place for my trip to Santa Barbara or I wouldn't have known it was here. It took us a while to find and figure out parking as it's hidden round the back of the building (facing the beach) but we found a great spot on the patio when we got there. The flights are good value and we particularly loved the Pale Ale and the Stout. The brewery had quite a new feel to it and the service was great. We bought some beers to take home as gifts for friends.
Great food and variety of beers !
A very popular hang out especially for the younger crowd. ((twenties early 30s) But fun place for all ages. A great variety of beers and just a fun place especially in pm hours and summer days.
Good beer and great company
Stopped in for a beer during our " beer tour ". We opened the place, so we pretty much had our bartender, Derek, to ourselves. He was great. Gave us great insight on other breweries in other towns, and was very knowledgeable about Island's beers, which are quite good, btw.
Beer, Please. Just Beer!
Leap day, foggy and chilly, but the outside heaters were on and it was cozy. Didn't stay to see a train go by but that would be cool. And the beer - such. good. beer. Keep it up, we loved it!
Beers
Stopped in for a tasting flight during our so cal visit.... Family, kid friendly brewery.... Lots of beers to pick from.. None stood out that I can remember.. You can order food and have it delivered... At least you could when we were there.. We might go...
Island Brewing Company is the best!
Island Brewing Company is the best! I took my house guest there in January! We both had a great time and the beer they make is very good.
Beer only
For anyone who doesn't like beer, you are out of luck at this place. They have beer, that's it and nothing else. Geez, carry a bottle of wine at least for us non-beer drinkers so we can hang out while the beer drinkers imbibe. And No Food at all, sometimes a food truck next door but not always. This is strictly a brewery and shouldn't be considered a restaurant.
The place to be in Carp!
As my wife and I explored Carpinteria, researching for our coming summer vacation, we noticed a somewhat hidden sign for ISLAND BREWING COMPANY. We stopped and could not have been more surprised by the casual, comfortable setting. We love micro-brews and craft beer and this place was perfect. We tried Golden Jubilee, Jubilee Ale, and the Blonde Ale. ALL were superb! We will definitely be visiting again and again this summer when we are here for a week!
GREAT MICROBREWS!
If you find yourself in quiet (boring) Carpinteria then Island Brew Co should def be on your to do list. Closest beer to the water. No food : (Dog friendly Only downside is the train tracks are very close by and when it passes its a bit noisy. Cool locals payment program. If youre looking for a cool way to " tip " the guy at the hotel for upgrading your room ask them about their locals tab program!
Great beer!
This is not a place you will find food inside, but there is always a food truck outside. Great beer and you can take your kiddos. There is a place for children inside and a park right in front.
The end of my Bike ride
I just rode my bicycle 60 miles and was staying at Carpinteria bike / ride campground and found this place about a half a block away. No beer ever tasted this good! Good way to end the day.
Fun atmosphere, great beer, fairly priced
Great beer served in a fun atmosphere just minutes from the surf! No view, right on the train tracks, and regretfully no TV (I was there Sunday morning)... but its a fun place and I'd be back.
Local Brewery
Tasting room right on the tracks. Great beer, super relaxed atmosphere. Bring your own snacks, toys outside for kids. Our visit included a 3 year old and 2 octogenarians and ages in between and we all had a great time.
A pleasant off the tracks surprise
We stopped in Carpinteria to meet some friends for lunch, and just parked off the main road and who'd have thought we'd happen upon a local craft brewery? We had to wait for our friends to meet up, so what better place to wait for them? We didn't eat here, but did taste a number of their beers... even the girls who don't normally drink beers were impressed. Great fresh flavours, served icy cold, with lots of great info about the beers and the brewing process. We bought a few bottles to take with us and wish we'd bought more. Great place.... shame about the location - it would be a special place with perhaps a beach view..... never mind, have a few more brews and just imagine you're on the beach !
We used the train too
This brewing company has some great food, obviously great beer if you like fresh brewed, and a view across the railroad tracks 30 feet away toward the ocean. Like I said, we used the train too, but not to get there. We laid pennies on the track and let our small daughter find out what happens when the train runs over things. They get flat. She marveled at the shiny copper disc as she munched away on a hamburger. I enjoyed my beer, Cora, and the company of some new friends.
Happy Birthday to me
For my birthday, my wife and her friends arranged for all to take Amtrak to Carp, and savor the local brews at the brewery (less than 2 minutes of walking distance away). The Jubilee is my favorite, and their prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend paying them a visit.
Tasty Local Brewery
This is typically where the locals go to hang out and tips a few brews. If you like the darker beers, try the Starry Night. If you're more in the lighter camp, there are many great options for you. There's something for everyone in the beer spectrum here. There are a few gaming groups that get together for Trivia, etc. in the evenings. It's a really nice place to hang out, talk to friends, drink some tasty beer, watch as the trains go by every once in a while just a few feet from you and enjoy an amazing sunset.
A wonderful surprise
My husband and I always stop by local breweries when we travel and this one took us by surprise. Great crisp and clean taste regardless of the beer we chose. Thanks to Derrick for sharing his knowledge with us!
Great beers, great staff superb atmosphere
Visited here whilst camping in the area. The beers here are amazing. I consider myself to be a beer snob and coming from the UK I was a little dubious at the craft beer scene in America. This place put to bed any concerns I had. The beers are reasonably priced and staff are more than happy to help explain details about each of them. Great place. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
Awesome Atmostphere and Great Beer!
Such a fun atmosphere and the beer is really good too. I love that they bring in a variety of food trucks. Dogs are always welcome and even kids can hang out there too. Super chill and really fun!
Tasty, welcoming beer brewery
The beers are tasty, the people are friendly, and they serve pretzels every day. Often they invite food trucks to add to the adventure. It's right on the railroad tracks and you can see the beach. Fun stop.
Great beer and atmosphere
Stopped by this small craft brewery on Tuesday afternoon and we are so happy we did! Excellent variety of beers, something for everyone. They have hoppy beer for the hop heads, a couple lighter choices and several selections in-between. Top 2 favorites were the Avocado honey and the Grand Jubilee. Both were smooth, lots of flavor and fit perfectly for our sunny visit to the patio. Lots of friendly people. Short walk to the beach before or after sampling some great brews.
Great beer selection, great locals friendly vibe
I've enjoyed every beer I've drank here. On the weekends I've visited there has been a great food truck in the parking lot. One night it was franks, another night tacos and another night hamburgers. The food is always fantastic. I really enjoy this place and can't imagine a trip to Carp would be complete without stopping in.
Too cool near hte beach
Stopped by this little craft beer brewery this last Sunday and it was great ! They have a small patio which backs right up to the train tracks, Amtrak should make this a quick whistle stop for passengers to pick up a growler of brew on their way up the coast ! Had their flight sampler and my favorite was the Scottish Ale and Starry Night Stout, good stuff ! So, order a flight, pick out your favorites and have a pizza or sandwich delivered and you're good to go. And don't forget to wave at the Amtrak riders, because they will all be jealous of you !
