A Practical Stay for Early Ferry Departures, but Parking Woes and Compact Spaces Detract
Alameda Hostal Boutique in Tarifa offers a practical stay for those planning an early ferry to Tangier, thanks to its proximity to the terminal. However, for travelers seeking comfort and ease of access, the experience comes with some notable challenges. Arrival & Parking - A Major Inconvenience If you're driving, be prepared for a frustrating parking situation. The hotel is located in an area where street parking is nearly impossible to find, often requiring over an hour of searching. A more viable option is the Ferry Terminal parking, but availability during the day is not guaranteed, and overnight parking can cost around €20 per 24 hours_a steep price for those on a budget. The best strategy is to park temporarily for check-in and then decide whether to take the paid parking option or try your luck on the streets. Check-in & Room Assignment The check-in process was slightly slow but reasonable, taking about five minutes. One peculiarity of the hotel is that rooms are not in the same building as the reception. Our room was located in another building approximately 100 yards away, a minor inconvenience if carrying luggage. The lobby of this second building is modest, featuring a microwave, sitting area, dining table, and a vending machine_functional but not particularly inviting. Room & Comfort We booked a triple single room, which, while adequate, felt compact for three people. The bathroom was on the smaller side and somewhat dated, which may disappoint guests expecting a more modern touch. Location - Ideal for Ferry Access, But Consider Exploring Beyond the Old Town The location is the highlight of the hotel, especially for those catching an early ferry. The Old Town is just behind the hotel, and a variety of restaurants can be found within a half-mile radius. That said, food in the Old Town tends to be pricier and somewhat touristy. For a better culinary experience, I recommend venturing outside the Old Town_we had one of the best pizzas ever at La Ponsiería, a hidden gem that's worth the detour. Final Verdict - Functional, Not Leisure-Oriented If your primary goal is a seamless ferry departure, Alameda Hostal Boutique is a practical choice. However, for a more relaxed and comfortable stay, particularly if your schedule allows flexibility, opting for accommodations near the beach would provide a more enjoyable and scenic experience. The combination of parking hassles, compact rooms, and an average check-in experience makes this hotel more suited for transit stays rather than a leisure escape.
Over night stay
We booked a double room with a terrace, reasonable price, room was well decorated and spotlessly clean. The little terrace area was nice to sit in and watch people wandering the street below. The hotel location is perfect, right next to the port and on the main avenue with lots of restaurants in the old town nearby. We were doing a day trip to Tangier and this hotel was perfect in every way. Only downside is that parking in Tarifa is a bit of a nightmare.
Pretty plain and unremarkable but right across the street from the ferry to Tangier and close to local activities
We were looking for a hotel close to the ferry to Tangier and this hotel seemed a good bet. Indeed it was literally a half block from the ferry entrance so perfect location for that as well as the cute shops, restaurants and sights that make up the small town of Tarifa. Check in was routine, our room was located a short walk from the main entrance in another attached building with its own door. Room was basic, clean and a good value for our purposes. This is a plain place with all the basics but an ideal location if you are staging for a visit over to Tarifa.
Fantastic Hotel
What a very pleasant hotel. We stayed here whilst visiting the tuna festival. The receptionist was polite and extremely helpful and the room was comfortable, fresh and modern. Location is superb - next to the port and centre of Tarifa. We would certainly stay here again next time we visit this lovely town.
Schönes Zimmer in guter Lage
Tarifa hotel stay
Great hotel. Very new feel. Very clean and quiet. Easy check-in. Convenient to old Town and the ferry. Next door to the castle. Restaurants just outside the door. Easy walk to the beach. We found parking on the street right out front. Would definitely stay there again!
Gracias. Asmae Ben Jelloun, 😊
Comfy but noisy
Nice hotel spread across 2 buildings. The main building with reception does not have a lift but other one does. Rooms were nicely decorated, fresh looking and comfortable. Not overly big room but ok. Walls are thin and you can hear your neighbours and street noise. Walking distance to many places and conveniently located if catching a ferry to Morocco.
Fantastiskt hotell
Neat, charming
A wonderful, tidy hotel steps from the ferry to Tangier, and wonderful old town Tarifa! Very relaxing stay, and the price / value was great. I'd stay here again for sure. (There is no lift / elevator, which was fine for me, but should be noted for less-mobile travelers.)
great time there!
I really appreciated the rooms, they smelled really good everyday and they were really clean. the location is also great, close to the beach and the old town. What I also liked was that we could connect the screen to our own computer (we brought an hdmi cable) to watch a movie. the staff was smiley and agreeable. overall a great experience there!
Next door to castle and ferry to Morocco
We stayed at Hostal Alameda as part of an Intrepid tour group. The location was great, next door to the castle and ferry terminal, and close to restaurants. We had a small room on the top (third) floor (no lift) which faced the back street. The windows opened to let in a nice breeze (this is a very windy city), especially if the hallway door was also chocked open. If you leaned out the window, you could get a partial view of the castle. Our double-sized bed was on the small size for two, but comfy. Bathroom was large and clean. There was some street noise from the back street restaurants so windows had to be closed at night. The main issue was the wifi, which was very weak, especially on the top floor, and which frequently dropped out completely.
Convenient to ferry to Tangiers
We visited 2 nights in March 23. This was a Rick Steves recommended hotel and also a good value. It was in a lovely area with a laundry nearby and lots of restaurants. It is convenient to the ferry to Tangiers, as this was the focus of this stop. Our room was comfortable and attractive and we had a balcony. There was complimentary tea in the lobby; no other breakfast or food service. There is some street parking, but we ended up parking in a garage a short distance away.
Clean rooms and in the center of Tarifa. Great Hostal. Not for families with children due to the noise but for me great
Clean and in the center of Tarifa, easy access to the bars and restaurants. Perfect place for the price I paid. I will definitely go back there next year. Air conditioner works well and receptionist is very polite and nice. Housekeepers are very nice people doing great job. Clean rooms everyday. Great Hostal.
Hostal Alameda
Recomendable 100%.
He ido a comer y si. Saludos
Lovely quiet hotel
Stayed here for a night while visiting Tarifa. What more to say. Lovely, clean, simple place. Check-in was quick, the host had good local recommendations. It's nice and central to the old town any many restaurants. Room clean, no problems at all! On-street parking is free (if you can find any!)
Excellent Location, Helpful Staff and Very Clean Room
We had a three night stay here and were very happy with the hotel. The location is perfect as it is very central to all of the bars and restaurants in the old town of Tarifa. Check in was very quick and the room, although small was very clean, had air conditioning a TV and a terrace with sea views. Excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water in the bathroom. The beds were very comfortable too. Possible downsides are that there was no lift which was not a problem for us and also a few reviewers have commented on the lack of parking. We were lucky and had no difficulty finding street parking whenever we needed it at less than five minutes walk from the hotel. Am guessing that in August things would be very different.
Muy bueno
Gracias, buena atención y buen sitio. Repetiremos!!!
Excellent value for money
Check-in was straight forward and the lady at reception very friendly. The room is perfectly adequate for a few nights stay, with clean, comfortable bedding and a well-equipped bathroom. Air con is also available in the room and there are blackout curtains. Location i spot on as it is in the centre of Tarifa.
So convenient to the ferry and very clean nicely decorated rooms!
We're so glad we chose the Alameda! It's very close to the ferry landing and our room on the top floor had a balcony with a great view and a beautiful clean bathroom with tub. There is no elevator but the walk is well worth it when you arrive to the top floor. There are 3 rooms on the top floor with tubs and a balcony. The location is perfect - near all of the fun shops and restaurants as well as a short walk to the beach.
A GREAT Place to Stay!
We booked this hotel as an overnight as we were headed to Morocco the next day and it is simply a hidden gem, a fantastic place to stay in the perfect location. So, as for location, the ferry is 10 min walk, tons of restaurants and bars easy walking distance, beach is 15 mins (slow walk) from the front door... simply put everything is so close and ng*there is lots of free parking (blue curb) in the area, we left our car parked for 2 days while we jaunted off to Morocco with no problem at all. The staff at the hotel was great, especially since neither of us spoke much of the others language, but we made it work. The lady who checked us in referred us to a great Restaurant for dinner and she was spot on. Bottom line, if we go back to this area, this is the first place we will look to stay, you should do the same
Molto buono
Recomendable.
Great Location near the Ferry!
Closest hotel to the ferry terminal and easy walking distance. The hotel does not have any parking availability so be aware of that if you have a car. The parking in Tarifa is horrible. The ferry lot was full and we had to find another location. The hotel has basic rooms and is reasonably priced. The rooms overlook a busy restaurant area so they can be noisy.
Ottobre a Tarifa
Great location!
The location of the hotel is centrally located and easy walking distance to all the bars, restaurants and to the beach. The staff was friendly. The room was clean, comfy and roomy. This is perfect location for a 1 or 2 night stay. At night we did hear a little noise from the bars but nothing that kept us up all night. The pictures posted accurately portray what the rooms look like.
Consigliatissimo!
A great discovery - really central
Great location, right next to lots of restaurants and the Castillo and the old town. Just a few minutes walk to the beach. Very welcoming, friendly staff with a chic communal area. The room was spotlessly clean. Our room did not have a balcony but hopefully we will be back and be able to book a room with one. As it is so central it might be worth asking for a room that does not overlook one of the side streets, as there will inevitably be a bit of noise - it didn't bother us as we are used to it, but possibly for young children it would be worth seeing if there are quieter rooms availble.
Genial, excelente
Great Place!
We booked this accommodation as a launching point for our day tour of Tangier. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The lounge and rooms are nicely decorated, and we had a view of the old city walls. All in all Tarifa was an unexpected highlight of our trip. Beautiful beaches, great food, and historic elements all within a 2 minutes walk of the ferry terminal.
Angenehmes Ambiente. Natürlich ist es sauber. Personal freundlich. Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis gut. Empfehlenswert.
A perfect stay!
We booked the double room with a view and got room 202, which is on what we'd refer to as being the 3rd floor in America. The room was clean and a little cramped, but sufficed for us nicely. The location could not be more brilliant if you are going to be using the ferry to travel to Tangier. Our room had a private balcony with a nice view. The bed was decent enough and the pillows actually quite nice. There was no room safe. Bottle water was complimentary, which was nice. The AC worked wonderfully. The towels and linens were mid-range in quality and the provided soap and shampoo came in little packets. The staff was great and a joy to interact with. We visited Tarifa in order to take the ferry to Tangier. This hotel met every item we desire when we travel; a great nights rest, the perfect location and at a great value. It's very quiet here during the night, and the private balcony is the perfect setting to enjoy a local 4euro bottle of wine as you unwind from an amazing day. One word of caution: There is no elevator, so if climbing stairs is a problem for you, this may not be desirable. With this in mind, you may want to specifically request a lower room when you book your room. After staying in Holland, we found the stairs easy peasy. With zero doubt, we would jump at the chance to stay here again and recommend the same to others whom we like. BTW, we found the old town of Tarifa much more enjoyable than either of us had anticipated. And the nearby Italian restaurant provided us with the best meal of our entire trip.
Loved the Blue " Beachy " Decor
Our room was very inviting with its blue and white decor and french-windows that opened onto a palm-filled walkway. We were in a busy area near the ferry crossings and had a lot of foot traffic and cars but we weren't bothered by any noise. We were in a separate wing of the hotel and the coffee service was in another wing but we appreciated bringing coffee back to our room in the early morning. There were a lot of conveniently placed plugs for computers, battery charging, etc. Wi-Fi service was very good. We were close to restaurants, stores, a few historic places and were even able to walk to the bus station, not close but also not far. Otherwise, you can get a taxi.
Recepção com ótimos atendentes, muito simpáticos e prestativos, agilidade tanto no check-in quanto no check-out.
Comfortable and very clean
Stayed here for 1 night while visiting the area. Right down by the port so very convenient for trips across to Tangiers. Good location for visiting the town in the evening for a meal. Reception very friendly. Our room surprised me - it was very modern, very clean, nice bathroom. It was situated at the front of the hotel so we looked out over the square and the port. Car parking is in the street and we struggled to find anywhere to park so had to go quite a distance in order to find a space. Altogether very good value.
Great location, clean rooms and friendly staff
We booked this Hostal at the last minute once we figured out how early we needed to catch the boat to Morocco. What a great spot in a lovely little town. Our room was clean and quiet. We had them bring an extra twin bed in to accomodate our two kids. It was a tight fit, but it all worked out. The rooms have free wi-fi and the restaurant had dollar beers. We got the kids pizza / gnocchi at a great little place on the " inside of the wall " and ice cream in the cutest little spot around the corner and then we had a great grown up dinner two doors down at a place (I think) called the Pescataria. I cannot remember, but it was delicious. The hostal is kind of no frills, but what do you expect for $100???
Terrible Service and price for quality of the place
Unfortunately we did not have a good experience with this place. Only upon check out did we find out from the 3rd front desk person the wifi was not working and we needed a cable to connect in the room. So, we were without internet access for 2 + days which made it very hard to plan our next destinations stay. ALSO, the room was terrible. Walls paper thin so you could hear everything in other rooms and every time someone left their room and shut their door, I thought the building would collapse. I will say the bed was comfortable, but because it was so dreadfully loud, we couldn't enjoy the mattress! We were on the 1st floor above a cafe over their rear entrance and had to listen to a very loud door open and close all day and until 2am every night. We noticed the afternoon we checked in, but they refused to let us move.
Cheap and basic room in good location
Each guest may have only one tiny cup of coffee from the machine in reception. I was told that is the rule. The coffee sachets are kept locked away and when I was refused a refill I felt like Oliver Twist. And bring a bottle of drinking water because that won't be replenished in the room. Anyway, for €35 my room was clean and quiet, if a little cramped for one- let alone two. Ideal location on edge of old town and close to ferry terminal. I was backpacking so it was an easy stroll across a pedestrianised area but I noticed motorists with lots of luggage were not so happy.
Nicely located by the ferry / old town
We stayed in this hotel mainly b / c we were planning a day trip to Tangier, Morocco, and wanted to stay in Spain both the night before and after. For the most part, we were happy with our stay. The hotel was literally right across the street from the ferry terminal, and there was a restaurant downstairs with decently-priced food. The hotel was also close to many other restaurants and shops. There was free wifi but it was a little spotty, especially the higher up the floor. There was also not an elevator which was fine, just a bit of a nuisance. My mom and I stayed in a " sea view " room that had a small balcony that looked out over the harbor. It was a nice room except the bathroom smelled very bad of sewage. I think it was just this room though b / c my friends in other rooms did not have that issue. The bed was comfortable though. Overall, I liked the hotel and would probably stay there again, mostly due to location.
Basic, but great location, Just what we wanted
I stayed here several years ago, but I think that time I was in a more modern part of the hotel, the rooms were much nicer, that said this time the room was warm, comfortable and very clean, the only issue was the lack of a lift. the Guy on Reception was attentive and very helpful
Handy location but a bit overpriced
We stayed here the night before catching the Tangier ferry. We were on the first floor of the annexe and there was a lift, unlike in the main building. The room was comfortable and quiet, but unfortunately it failed the " hairs in the shower " test. Apart from its location, right next to the port and the old town, I'm not really sure it merits the price. I've stayed in four-star hotels for less, and if you're catching the early ferry you can't get breakfast as the cafe doesn't open till 8.30.
Great location for the ferry to Tangier
My 17 year old son and I were here from June 19 - 21 during our 6th two week summer vacation in Europe. We were here solely for a day trip to Tangier. I picked this hostal because of its location (100 M to the ferry dock). The reception was friendly enough. Our room was in the new annex. It was smaller than I anticipated after viewing the web site photos. The only view we had was onto the shared terrace shown in the bottom left of the official photos. The room was drab. There is no safe or refrigerator. The bathroom had only a shower. while the bathroom was clearly new, there was no place to put things like soap or shampoo in the shower except on the floor. The bathroom was so small that there was VERY limited space to put toiletries except on the back of the toilet or a VERY small portable corner shelf. There was adequate water pressure and hot water. The bathroom had a 1 square foot window to ventilate the room. The bathroom smelled of feces but none were visible. The smell could not be aired out. I suspected a dirty toilet brush (which we never used). That is a comment on the housekeeping staff. The man on duty when we checked out at 6 am spoke not a single word of english. That was surprise considering that Tarifa is a Mecca for surfers from around the world. I knew enough spanish to get by. The location, besides being so close to the ferry, is also near countless good restaurants. All in all, a disappointment. Adequate for our short term needs. I would try another place if I return to Tarifa. BTW... Beware of the taxis. The drivers put their baseball caps over the meter and charge whatever. I was charged two different fees for the exact same route (bus station - hotel). The higher fee was for the trip back to the bus station, at 6:15 am, which took one third the time of the original trip to the hotel.
Great little hotel
We recently stayed overnight in Hostal Alameda in Tarifa as a stopover on our way to Granada. Hostal Alameda is conveniently located directly across from the ferry to Morocco, and is clean, quiet, and affordable. Hourly, on-street parking is available, but if you're not interested in being a slave to the meter, you might want to park in the parking garage located about two blocks away. There are plenty of places to eat in Tarifa, but if you want to stay close to the hostal, there are plenty of good restaurants in which to eat right on Paseo Alameda. I recommend Hostal Alameda and would certainly stay there again.
Close to old town
A neat and clean little hotel, close to the old town. the room was quite ok, and those who keep the room tidy and clean, was top class. English skills were not good, so you have to be careful with the order of the room. a perfect starting point for trips and short distance to the beach, surfing, and shopping. Most people come here by car and the hotel has an agreement with a small garage nearby. It is recommended, when we got dent in the car outside, and also parking ticket. about 15 min drive to Mistral surf club.
Not that easy a walk from the bus in Tarifa's high winds
The hotel is clean and well situated, extremely close to the ferry as advertised, and also close to a number of decent if somewhat overpriced restaurants on Paseo Alameda. There is a restaurant in the hotel that was doing a good business at the time we arrived, though prices in this area seem more or less uniform. We had a balcony with a sea view, which added to the pleasure of our stay. But a word of warning... Tarifa's famous winds made for a fairly miserable walk with our luggage-we were truly whipped around, had to fight every step of the way-and there were many nice looking hostels closer to the bus station that also would have been an easy stroll down to the ferry line the next morning. In addition, the signage is a little confusing, so if you arrive in Tarifa by bus, make sure to get one of the tourist maps at the station or arrange for a taxi (we didn't see one, but were told there were taxis). We had to drag our bags up 4 flights to get to our room, too-no lift. Comfortable place with kind staff, though, if you don't mind fighting your way through a wind tunnel to find it. The howling winds also affected our sleep a bit, one of the few times a room fronting the sea had disadvantages. Hostels in town with more wind protection were quieter. But of course, the extreme weather added to the exotic atmosphere and provided us with a unique memory.
Great location, easy to walk around town
Great place to stay. We had a patio adjourning two of our rooms. It was quiet and clean. There are many good restaurants in the area. The ferries to Morocco leave from across the street, plus it's an easy drive to go to Gibraltar. Just a super place!
Clean no frills hotel with great location but not a good value for what you get
The Hostal Alameda is good for a hostel or budget hotel but is overpriced for what you get. As other reviews say, it is no frills and selection in Tarifa is limited but we felt we would have gotten more for less elsewhere. For the same price you can stay at a 4 star hotel in Algecerias that is loaded with amenities. We abandoned Tarifa (too slow during the offseason) and the Hostal Alameda our second night and stayed at the AC Hotel in Algecerias and got a much better room (jr. suite with huge patio with a great view of the rock of Gibraltar) and value (free mini bar) with more options for nightlife. PRO's -Good location for catching ferry across the street and exploring old town -Very clean. This hotel is for folks who want a clean no frills hotel close to the ferry. Stay here if that is all you care about. CON's - Too pricey for what you get. There are nicer places to stay for less nearby. Our room (104) was smaller than expected and as mentioned in other reviews is nothing more than a clean room with a bed, shower, wardrobe, desk, phone, TV, lamps and towels that remind me of the ones we use to have in high school gym class. - No instructions on how to use phone. My message light was on and I still don't know what the message was. - Walls are paper thin and you can hear conversations and snoring from other rooms. I agree that when somebody closed their door it sounded like building was collapsing. - No elevator. Carrying bags up and down stairs was a pain. - Lights in hallways go off automatically.... how about making them come on automatically so I don't have to make my way to the light switch in the dark? - Room (104) was tiny. - No safe in room or way to secure anything. You can leave stuff at front desk but they just put in a closet that is not locked. We took a day trip to Morocco and came back and everything was still in my backpack but there were several times during our stay when nobody was at the front desk and I could have opened the door and cleaned out their " safe deposit ". Also, when we returned I told the guy at the desk that they had my bag and he held it up and asked " is this it? " ….. didn't really make me feel as if my stuff was secure considering there was cash and computers in it. They should have luggage storage lockers or some other way that would give customers more confidence that their items were secure. Also, had to wait for the person working the desk for quite a bit a couple of times when I was dropping off / picking up our valuables which was annoying. The back of their check-in material clearly states that they have no liability for items lost that are left in rooms. There is no luggage storage at the Tarifa Ferry Port so you have to trust your stuff won't vanish from their unsecured closet. A couple of notes on Tarifa...... there were no taxis at the bus station when we arrived. Make sure you know how to get from station to hotel. You can follow signs to Ferry terminal. It was about a 15 minute walk which wasn't bad except we were loaded down with luggage. Also, there was no secure place to store luggage at either hotel or ferry terminal. We were there in the offseason and the whole town shuts down after 10PM. If I had it to do over again I would stay in Algecerias in a nicer hotel with more options for dining and nightlife during the offseason but would give another spot in Tarifa a try during busier times of the year.
Perfect for a Tangier trip
This hotel is located immediately across the street from the ferry boat docks that service the crossing to Tangier, Morocco. You can park a car free on the side streets. If you are going to Tangier for a day trip, just walk across the street and onto the ferry. Really easy. The hotel itself is in two buildings. The reception entrance is immediately to the left of the very obvious entrance to the Restaurant Alameda. A little confusing because it looks like you should go into the restaurant. The 2nd building, which has an elevator, is a couple of doors to the left and is marked " Hotel " so the impluse is to go there. Nope, go to the door beside the restaurant. We stayed in the 2nd building because of the elevator. Room was very nicely appointed with air conditioning that worked. No restaurant for breakfast but for an early breakfast you can catch something in the ferry ticket building. Later the restaurants along the street serve. This was a very good choice for us.
Great location, great hotel, but no value for money
Great hotel. Amazing location right near the port to Morocco. The room was clean and comfortable, albeit a little small. The hotel definitely doesn't have any frills, but it's a great place to rest your head. We did pay $100 / night for this 2 star hotels, which was more than we paid for nicer 3 and 4 star hotels in other cities in Spain. However, hotel selection in Tarifa is limited and so we were happy with our selection.
an avarage hostel
We found it in the last minute as one canceled the reservation. We were in the second building which was gloomy and spooky, yet the room was extremely clean / new / great bathroom. We spent only one night in Tarifa. That's why, the price and the hostel were good enough for us. Could be difficult with kids, it's a bit noisy.
Clean & convenient
I had this hotel on my top 5 option list for Tarifa. After looking at the other four, (thought we wanted to stay inside the walls until we heard the noise level and saw the room quality) we were thrilled with Alameda. Everything was very clean. Our room had the little enclosed balcony so we could see the kids at the playground (they play until @ 2100) and folks walking the promenade. No elevator, but the stairs were easy. The room had everything we looked for. Good beds, good light, good bath, good location and clean, clean, clean. There was one difficult adjoining neighbor on the first night, but I heard the night staff call their room and things settled down quickly. The staff we encountered - 3 or 4 - were all pleasant and helped us with directions. I practiced my Spanish, they practiced their English and we each did some sign language and charades. One thing you do need to know is that the bus station is no longer a block from the Old Gate. The " station " is a street stop by an empty field that will someday house the new terminal. It's about 7-8 blocks from the Old Gate. Ignore the water you see down the hill. You want to walk one block UP the hill, then turn right on Batalla del Salado until you see the old gate. We had breakfast before the next door restaurants opened. We walked down to the corner before the ferry terminal, went to the left, one block - past the castle- then left again and there was a little cafe open. The espressos were good, the jambon y queso tasty and the staff was friendly.
Terrible hotel - avoid at all costs
Although this place was recommended by Rick Steves, it is NOT up to his normal quality! This hotel was the single blemish on our two week family vacation to Spain, and was a horrible experience. Thank God we only stayed there one night. The issues began when we found it nearly impossible to drive up to the hotel and drop off our luggage. We then had to interact with the EXTREMELY unfriendly staff who were quite rude and entirely unhelpful. They then took us to an unattached building about a half-block away that was entirely dark with no one else in it. We found out later that this side building was under construction, and our room was " done. " It wasn't. There was construction dust everywhere, the power outlets weren't wired, there were no lights, the water pressure was a trikle, and to top it off we were woken up at 7 by construction (apparently the only place in that country where construction starts at 7:00 am). To top it off, it wasn't even a very good value! The room itself was small and spartan, and the hotel located in a pretty good part of town. I would only recommend this hotel to people who have no money to spend elsewhere and who REALLY want to be in Tarifa. Avoid at all costs if you can.
Great location, clean, simple but more than adequate
Stayed here after a trip to Tangiers ran long because immigration in Tangiers was a mess. Literally the first building one sees after leaving the port parking lot. Didn't even notice it was a Hostal til later. Several bars and restaurants right outside the building and many more including shopping a very short walking distance away. Clean rooms, comfortable bed and reasonably priced. Tarifa in November was nice and warm, no wind. I was there on a Saturday night and the bar scene wthin walking distance was alive so parking was a bit difficult to find.
Best located typical hotel in Tarifa
The hotel is very stylish in typical andalusian white including furniture. Rooms are not too small, the double one is just fine for two people. Bath and room are very clean. Wireless is included. The restaurants are right outside at the Alameda next door. In the back begins the old town with the tapas bars. At night it tends to become a bit noisy due to the great night life in Tarifa but with closed windows it is ok. The staff is very helpful and speaks good English. They suggest you restaurants for breakfast / dinner and also recommend on boat tours. We did the one day guided tour to Tanger Marocco with the speed boat.
Great location two minutes from ferry terminal
Don't let the Hostel name deter you because this is a nice, clean option for anyone who wants to be near the ferry or walking distance to many of the shop and restaurants near the fort. We did not book ahead but we had the names of several of the Trip Advisor recommended hotels with us. We had no idea of where we should stay, park in relation to the ferry that we were taking the next morning. As it turned out, right in the square where we parked was a tourist information office and they told us this hotel was the closest to the terminal and was just two minutes away. We ended up taking our car to an overnight parking garage and walked back (5 minutes or less). We had a small room in the main building. It was very clean with twin beds, a night stand, desk and chair. It was very inexpensive and had wifi included. The man who was at the desk did not speak English or French but we managed between his poor English and our poor Spanish. The only drawback was the bathroom was very clean but smelled musty.
Language problem
Tarifa was our first port of call in Spain, having arrived from Tangier by ferry. My first thought was how wonderful the location was. Well within walking distance from the ferry, right in the middle of a plaza. Unfortunately, we got the first floor room adjacent to the plaza and it was very noisy, with all the restaurants just outside our window and the noisy morning traffic as well. The room was very average but satisfactory. Everything did work, nothing fancy but good enough for an overnight stay. Restaurants and banks and all other amenities all within easy reach. The real problem though was nobody spoke English. It was really difficult checking in ad out and even ordering a taxi. Let alone asking for touristy information. So basically, it's OK for a short stay.
Quality bedrooms in top Tarifa location
Tasteful all round and nicely presented Hostal, There are two parts. I was placed in the annex part just 50m up the avenue, and seems the result of some amalgamation of other properties. This is a family run business, and the younger son is the sole communicator in good English for any of those issues, can do humour as well. :), but not always easy to find. Bedrooms are Boutique authentic to the region, freshly decorated and well maintained and reflect the pictures on booking sites. Room servicing is excellent, but the toiletries are sparsely distributed and a poor at this grade, but a small issue. Missed having a lounge or Balcony to sit upon. Also no fridge in the room, and only a standard TV with minimal channels. There is a common seating area is dull (not classed as lounge) that's is never used for obvious reasons, with a consolation kettle for tea and coffee making materials and micro plastic cups. Good proximity to the town and all the bars and restaurants etc with very nice bedrooms. Good for the Tarifa vibe or a classier stopping point on way to Morocco, but not so ideal all round for those on surf trip. When drying my wetsuit on the micro balcony the drips ended up on the servicing counter of the Pescado Fish restaurant below. Just to add a that's extra bit of Tarifa saltiness..! Well worth the 60 Euro / night, but they increase this for Saturdays to 79$ and other selected HI-volumes days.
Very good
A pleasant room in a building separate from the reception and restaurant. Helpful manager. Located close to the port, which for me was an advantage, but port activity is not intrusive. Several restaurants and the pleasant small town nearby. Walking distance from promenade etc along the sea.
Si alguna vez viaja a Tarifa no busque hoteles.
Great location, beautiful room
The hostal is perfectly located right next to the port, as well as near the main streets, the beach, and the castle. The room itself was very nice, the bed was very comfortable, everything was very clean and decorated in typical Andalusian style. The shower was nice and warm and had good water pressure. They have a restaurant right next door as well as several others around in the neighborhood, and a nice grocery store about a 10 minute walk. It's an easy 15 minute walk from the bus station, too. Staff was also incredibly friendly, but didn't speak much English, but very friendly!
Perfect location
It's just opposite the port so it's very convenient. Price was good. The room was spacious and beautiful. The bathroom was clean and the bed was very comfy! The TV has english channels. Wifi works perfectly. The housekeeping did a very good job, we were very impressed. She folded our clothes very nicely. The beach is a couple of minutes walk away only and halal food is about 5 mins walk.
Tarifa - Hostal Alameda
Had a great short break here. Stayed in an annex next to main building which has a Bar / Restaurant which is very handy. Location perfect for anyone due to travel on the Ferry to Tangier. About 100 metres from Ferry entrance. Comfortable room with a / c and hot water shower. Very pleasant.
Quite alright!
Pros The cleaners do their job very well Good location close to the port Helpful staff Cons Our room (116) had poor WiFi It's a dead town for the most part, except the peak feasting hours Halal food is a 5mins walk (Estambul Kebab)
very good for 1 star
The location is very convenient, close to the port - just cross the street and you are in the port area and the center. Even close to the port it is a quiet area (the port is behind the fortified castle that is one of the main attraction of the city). Our room had a balcony and was very clean, the bed was very comfortable. We were in February 2014 and the heating functioned very good.
Vacation
Excellent!!! Love it. The staff was very helpfull, specially Alexander. Rooms were clean and modern. Right across the port. If I come back definetly will stay there againg. Highly recomended. It is more like a Hotel than a Hostel.
nice hotel, interesting location
great location at the port, walking distance to old city, comfy rooms, walking distance to beach all at the right price. walked to port to get ferry for morocco, drove 45 min to Gibraltar. parking is a problem, however. only street parking available and is not always available
Convient
Hostel Alameda is right across the start from the ferry to Morocco. The plaza in front is a playground for children. The restaurant is right there. More restaurants are near by. They do not serve breakfast but we found an excellent pastry shop a couple of blocks away with a variety of breakfast choices. There is no elevator. We were on the second floor awith a long narrow but high walled balcony, with 2 chairs you have to stand to see what is the 'view.' The beach with waves for surfing is a few blocks away. No parking at he hotel but you can find free parking on the street (but it might not be too close.)
Fantastic base to day trip into Morocco
Right across the street from the ferry to Tangier. Which was why we were in Tarifa. Nice beach town and you are right in the heart of the commercial area. Completely safe and clean. Lots of dining options within steps of the door or walk around the corner to find even more restaurants and bars. Parking a rental car is not the easiest, the hotel does not have parking on site. But 2 blocks north is an indoor garage or even the port facility is right there but way more expensive. The staff were very nice. The room was not luxury but it was comfortable and clean. Our room was in the second building which was secure and quiet. If you are there for a Tangier day trip. We hired a private guide in advance. He had arranged for the ferry tickets and everything went off without a problem on our day trip.
Great visit to Tarifa and convenient for day trip to Morroco
Hotel had great location, very close to the ferry and close to restaurants in old town. Alexander and Alberto were very helpful in finding restaurants and both were good at speaking English. Hotel was clean and very nice and convenient for walking all over Tarifa. A special thanks to Alexander!
Convenient to the ferry dock
We chose this location for one overnight a few weeks ago due to an early departure the next morning to Tangier via ferry. Taking the bus from Malaga was pleasant and a great way to see more of the Costa del Sol heading south. The Tarifa bus station was about 5 minute walk to H. Alameda, along sidewalks filled with shops, cafes, restaurants, and plenty of animation. The hotel receptionist was pleasant, spoke English quite well, and showed us to the room which was on the 2nd floor (with elevator). Our TV didn't work (missing the cable connection!) and the hotel was booked so we told ourselves we will catch up with the news another night. They were not able to adjust our room rate since we booked with an internet company. The room was clean, high thread count bed linens were surprisingly ironed, comfortable mattress and pillows galore. One issue to mention... there is a small sitting area on the main floor of the annex building (where our room was located) that had a coffeemaker, tea hot pot, an cozy reading nook. At first we thought there would be fresh coffee in the AM - not so as there was mold in the pot when my roommate checked things out. Hopefully management will read this and improve the service for those who have to rush off to the ferry at 8am. The receptionist offered a great recommendation for dining at the restaurant next door, Le Pescaderia, notable for their regional fish platters. We were quite pleased with the service and variety of appointments included with our dinner. There could be some noise outside late in the evening from the pedestrian terrace just in front of this small hotel. You may want to consider asking for a room that is in the back of the building or avoid keeping your windows wide open before hitting the pillow.. Tarifa is a colorful village with rambling streets, historic buildings, and the most southern point in Europe where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea on a sandy beach. Surf's up - enjoy watching the action.
Buena ubicacion y amabilidad
Good location and price
We weren't really sure what to expect, but actually were pleasantly surprised. Booking: I booked directly with the hotel, the rates are very reasonable. They did charge me the first night (of 3) upon booking which was fine. Location: We were able to walk from the bus station (about 15 min. walk). It is right by the cruise port, and we had planned a trip to Tangiers, so that was good. There is a restaurant associated with the hotel, we didn't eat there, but did have a drink and olives on the patio which was nice. There are several restaurants on the square which we did try. There is also a children's play area with little rides, etc. We were there Wed, Thur, and Fri. Friday night was very noisy on the square as many families came to enjoy the kiddie area and lots of soccer fans were getting silly. We needed to sleep by 11 pm so earplugs were the answer. The TI is handy. It is easy walking distance to the old town for breakfast or dinner. Room: Our room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable with good linens. The bathroom was quite large with a very nice, large shower. The decor was perhaps a little dark, but the tiles were cool. Our room faced the square, hence the noise on Friday night. Public areas: We were in the annex and there is a public sitting area and a kettle, etc. but it wasn't very inviting. I felt a little removed in the annex, but it was okay. The main area of the hotel has the reception which was average, a little dark and cramped but okay. The wifi in the annex is weaker than the main building. Service: The young man (Alejandro?) is very helpful. His English is quite good, and he really wants to help. The older gentleman who works in the morning does not speak any English and was a little gruff. If you need assistance with anything Alejandro is your man. All in all, a good stay. It's not 5* luxury, but it is a good, clean, budget option in a great location. Recommended.
