Not clean!!

We checked in to our first room which had stains on the sheets so we called the front desk who gave us new sheets - which we were to do ourselves because they don't have housekeeping at night (9:30 pm). Upon stripping the bed, we found a tattered plastic mattress cover and even bits of FOOD on the mattress itself. We obviously asked to switch rooms at that point. Our new room was better but the sheets still had holes in them and there was hair in the shower. I have been to many Marriott hotels over the years - this is far and away the worst state I have seen a room at this chain.

FILTHY

From the elevators to the rooms... DIRTY, trash everywhere and the linens on the beds were torn and stained. There was hair on the beds and couch. We changed rooms because the first one was SO NASTY and dusty. When we got to the second room we saw more of the same. Stained linen, hair on the sheets. We asked housekeeping for new sheets and upon reviewing the new " clean " replacements.. You guessed it. STAINED. You would think that in a covid world they'd clean more... Umm NO!!! The halls had dirty towels and glasses on the floor that were there from the time we checked in to the time we checked out. The heater in the room ticked all night. I had to turn it off because I couldn't sleep. Our stay was such a disappointment. I can not believe this is a Marriott. The best thing about our stay was the customer service. They were patient, professional and accommodating.

Newly renovated and taking protocols seriously

Checked in for a quick one night stay and was very happy. I was upgraded to a nice corner king room, which was spacious and very newly renovated, with a great shower and a comfortable bed. As a platinum, I was given a $10 breakfast credit to the lobby restaurant, which offered carry out service or distanced tables. The food was decent, too. (See menu attached.) The staff was very friendly and was definitely taking Covid protocols seriously. Recommended.

Dirty Room / Didn't appear to be cleaned

I was not impressed with the Southfield Marriott hotel. Upon arriving, I noticed right away that my room looked like it was not clean. There were food crumbs on the floor, in the bathroom, and on the bed sheets. Additionally, the bathroom also had hair in the shower, on the tiles, and the sink. Everything in the room also had a noticeably thick layer of dust on it, the couch had stains, and the walls were splattered with (food) ? spots. I called the front desk to inform them of this and ask for another room. They assured me that someone would be up right away to attend to the dirty room. I waited for 20 minutes and no one showed up. Therefore, I called the front desk again and they said they weren't aware of the issue. After I reexplained the problem, they told me they'd send a manager; the manager came up about 10 minutes later. He checked the room and said he'd get me another room. I waited for about 10 additional minutes and was finally given keys to a new room. However, I wasn't offered any type of apology for the unclean room, which was very disappointing. When I arrived to the new room, I was just ready to relax; I was tired from the drive there and having to deal with the room issues. But when I looked over the new room, I noticed that it had the same issues as the last one! It was very dusty, the bathroom didn't look like it was cleaned thoroughly, and there was debris on the floor. I couldn't believe it! I figured the manager would have looked over the room prior to giving me the key. But that didn't seem to be the case. At this point, I knew I didn't just get a " bad " room the first time around. It seemed all the rooms were cleaned poorly. I really didn't want to deal with having to wait around again and move rooms, so I just stayed in that one. Later on in the evening I received a call from the front desk. They were confused on what room I was in and didn't seem to realize I switched rooms. I filled them in on the change and also informed them my new room was not any better. After reading over guest reviews for this hotel, it seems that this is a reoccurring issue. Overall, I was very, very disappointed in the entirety of my stay here. Side note- The front desk was nice to me upon check in. However, I did notice they were talking about other customers negatively in front of me when I first got to the hotel and also later on when I was walking by. I thought this was very unprofessional and did not sit well with me, especially with all the other problems. I am a loyal Marriott customer and member, but this hotel is not doing the brand any favors.

A Bit Disappointed

As I enjoy trying new Marriott brand hotels, I had higher expectations, but this one disappointed me. The woman who checked me in could have used a bit more diplomacy when she said that I didn't qualify for the rate I originally thought I had. Coming from someone who has worked with the public for over two decades and in a managerial position for most of that time, I would have chosen my words better if I had to notify the guest of a rate increase of $42 per night. I entered the room and it was decent, but there was a piece of trash from a previous guest, there was splatter from someone brushing their teeth on the mirror, and the track the shower door was on was filthy. Upon check out, the young man was polite and seemed to have a good attitude. Because of him, I may consider revisiting this hotel, just to see if my visit was an off day.

Nicely Renovated

Just stayed here again after the renovation and the room was very nice. It feels like a Delta by Marriott, but it isn't, obviously. Staff as usual was very friendly and attentive to my needs. This is a good solid hotel.

Renovations Mostly Complete on return visit

This Marriott is a pretty standard business hotel adjacent to highway and nestled in between a lot of corporations. The lobby, ground floor and restaurants have been renovated and look modern. Room renovations are mostly complete, so is the 6th floor lounge. Room renovations are modern, minimilistic. A fresh look compared to older decor rooms. The floors are laminate wood. I am not a fan of this floor. I would have preferred a nice carpet. The bathroom is redone. Very large illuminated mirror. The 6th floor concierge lounge is complete, has complimentary water, beverages. I only visited for breakfast and it was a decent continental breakfast with fresh fruit, real scrambled eggs (not from powder) and good coffee. There is a server at all times which was friendly. Large corner windows with views. Medium Sized, but plenty of seating. Platinum welcome gift of 500 points. The lobby restaurant has happy hour M-Th, 5-7pm. Overall a good stay, comfortable.

Promising; Under going renovations

At check in I was told that there are renovations, club lounge is closed. I was given points for that, plus an option to have afternoon snack and breakfast in restaurant. That seems like a decent compromise. My room was ok, all functional; I welcome the new renovated rooms. Beds are comfortable, everything else was good. Lobby is new, restaurant looks new. Parking is free; Internet is free. Rooms have large desks which I highly value.

Better and Improved

My last stay at this property was fraught with issues which I communicated to the hotel and I have them some time to get improvements in place before patronising them again. I was not dissapointed. This stay was up to a Marriott Standard and the staff was very attentive and willing to help make your stay as good as it can get. Kudos to management and the new front office manager.

Great lobby

This hotel has A WONDERFUL lobby for hanging out and grabbing a drink. The food is delicious and the wait staff is AWESOME! The rooms are clean, but need updating, which they said they are starting with a room at a time. I would recommend this hotel.

Excellent Staff and Very Good Hotel

I recently spent the night at this hotel. In fact, this is the second time I have stayed at this property. The hotel is located right off the freeway, making it easy accessible. In addition, the hotel offers free parking. I am a Platinum Premier member with Marriott and a Diamond member with Hilton. Therefore, I spend almost every night in a hotel, and know when a facility is quality. This hotel has very well trained staff and the property is well maintained. I was told that there are plans for renovation in the near future, but I have seen far worse Marriott properties. The staff at this hotel could not be more helpful or friendly. This includes everyone from the doorman, the front desk staff, the MOD, the banquet staff, and even the concierge staff. The food items offered in the club are much better that most Marriott hotels. I had the pleasure of Barb Gee, the manager of the concierge in the evening. She is excellent, making sure that each guest's needs were met. I called ahead and requested a suite and received one on the 2nd floor. The room was spacious and well appointed. The bed was a little worn but not bad. I slept very well. The drapes on the windows closed with ease, blocking out and street lights. The room had a couch and chair, and a computer desk with plenty of outlets. The bathroom was spacious enough with plenty of hot water for a shower and a strong water pressure. Wile the hotel is located in a light business districts and there are no restaurants within walking distance, the hotel restaurant is excellent and there are other restaurants within a short drive. The hotel has two elevators with the lift coming quickly. The poor is very nice and there is an outside fire pit for enjoying a drink and conversation. I conducted a seminar at the facility and everything was handled in a professional and timely manner as per my request, helping the training go off without a hitch.. I am not sure how many hotels are near this area. However, it took me 19 minutes to drive from the airport. With all the stress involved with traveling today, I would strongly recommend this hotel to any business traveler. Also, this is an excellent place to host a meeting. The leadership at this hotel should be proud of their staff and the facility.

Great Staff !

We stayed there with my son's hockey team and everyone from the front desk people to the bartenders were friendly and took great care of us. The breakfast our kids received in the mornings before their games was perfect. We travel all over North America for hockey and this is one of the best hotels we've stayed at.

Clean, Comfy

Hotel is comfy and clean. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Pillow top mattress gave me a great night's sleep. Breakfast is great. Work out room is clean and in good working condition. Would surely stay here again.

Good hotel great staff

Immediately noticed how clean the parking lot was and when we went in the hotel was very clean. The staff was courteous and helpful. We got up to our room and it was clean but the air freshener was not the best. The restaurant and dining areas were also nice. Good location near restaurants.

Very nice not far to Ford Museum

Stayed 2 nights with my wife and 3 grandchildren. Got an adjourning room for them and it worked out great. Very clean and comfortable. Great location to find places to shop and eat and only about 20 minutes to Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.

2016-10-07 14:19:44

Great property!

This is my home while in Detroit. From Barbara at the front desk to Barbara in he concierge lounge, I feel like they truly care that I am there. The location is perfect. Easy to downtown, business center and the airport.

Excellent Value, Fine Service

This is an older hotel with a nicely renovated first floor, though the rooms are a bit tired. However, I like this hotel for two reasons: The service is friendly and helpful, and the hotel is a very good value: I paid $103 for a weekend night. The buffet at the restaurant makes for a good breakfast too.

2016-08-28 09:54:07

Nice once you get there

Maybe it was me but seem hard to get to. Trying to find it at night was a nightmare. Once there nice hotel, clean friendly. Seem to be a business hotel not a swingers hotel. Pool was always filled with children but not any parent. No juccuzzi. Clean and very friendly. Bar was nice but closed around midnight, did not use the restaurant or the $12.50 day breakfast buffet. Hotel in nice area but bad area. No shops or stores walking distance. You had to get in the car if you wanted anything. Rooms were clean. Bed was nice, bathroom may been small but worked. Plenty of parking in back but not front. Easy check in and out.

Beautiful

Located off of Northwestern is the Courtyard and Marriott Southfield. Indoor pool, gym, and restaurants on site. Rooms are nicely appointed. Our suite was wonderfully roomy and we loved the layout! Bed was comfy and lots of pillows! Nice array of toiletries and fluffy towels.

Two night stay

Decent hotel, nice stay, convenient location. Restaurant, room service available, clean, comfortable bed. I had room on 2nd floor, suggest higher floor if available for better view, and farther away from lobby area.

Honest Review

I am currently staying here at the Southfield Marriott. I booked this location based on lower price. The Hotel Staff have been great. I give them 5 stars. The lobby and restaurant are updated and the food was good. I recommend the Granny Smith Apple Pie Ala Mode. I would give all of that 5 star too. From there it drops once you get up to the rest of the hotel. The carpeting is frayed and very dated and feels like you have stepped back to the late 90's. The bedroom has dated furniture as well, however, the TV is large and you can connect directly to Netflix, Hulu and Youtube as well as have local tv stations and HBO. I did like that. The Bed was soft and comfortable with clean linens and towels as you would expect from Marriott. You can tell that they are updating, but really need replace carpet and furniture. I would stay here again though. Staff was great and I love the location.

2016-08-10 08:32:20

I liked it!

I went to the Marriott next door by mistake, and when I was told the Courtyard was next door I was greatly disappointed when I first saw it from the outside. It looked like an old Travel Lodge. However, all of the staff I encountered were warm and friendly. The room was clean, quiet, comfortable, and well appointed (fridge, coffee, wi-fi) with an extra seating / work area. Bed was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious! I'd be tempted to give a 5 except for 2 things; 1) the bathroom sink area smelled like someone had spilled cologne, and 2) the heavy drape would not close all the way in the bedroom allowing too much light into the room. Don't let the outside of the building fool you - overall it's a very nice place, and I would not hesitate to stay here again!

Very Acommidating, Very Comfortable

Stayed at this location with my family and extended family for our annual Family Reunion for the weekend Friday-Monday morning, We arrived with a group of 20+ at 12noon the hotel was ready for us we went right up to our rooms with no delay. The front desk staff Accommodated early check in for this many with ease. I had a king bed on the 2nd floor facing the indoor pool. Plenty of space for 2 adults and a toddler. We would have drinks in the lobby and walk outside under the flag area shown on the outside pictures above. (I work in the hotel industry have to thank the hotel for letting us have great use of the hotel, at my locations its no booze outside.) Really enjoyed our stay at this location with my family and extended family there we were respectful to the hotel and had fun at the same time. Some groups can sort of think they own the place. To my knowledge only the handi-accessible rooms had refrig / microwaves not that I really needed one all I had was pizza that could be eaten cold. The pool could have been a little warmer, I was told it has a set temperature but after 20+ min in the pool I was still on the cold side. 2nd Floor ice machine was broken had to use 3rd floor and could not find the 1st floor machine. The in house restaurant has really good wings and fish. Better flavor then a local chain I ordered from. You definitely need a car to go somewhere If you want to sightsee downtown Detroit lastly I want to thank the hotel for all they did and the unique situation that happened to help my family during that time.

Great Place to stay

I must say this was a lot better then what I expected. The room was very nice and at a very comfortable temp when you walk in. The hotel has a very nice bar in the lobby and it is always lively. So I truly enjoyed my stay.

GREAT SERVICE!!

Stayed here for a week and had a great time! Pleasant staff, Excellent rooms! Delicious food! On the evening I arrived they provided guests with status free pizza, salad, cookies and drinks in the hotel restaurant. Concierge was very nice and also provided great appetizers. Will be back

Excellence all around

I've seen this Marriott go from good to great. The service is phenomenal and the overall look and feel is good for the temporary home that it is. It's an awesome place for meetings and they are very accommodating to your needs.

Found Great Customer Svc Ashley, Barbara, Raymond, Bea, Donald

Good service, good price

Stayed over Valentine's Weekend and had a wonderful time. Guest services was very nice and accommodated our request to be on a higher floor, away from the elevators, and kids hockey team. Also accommodated our need for late check-out. Room service breakfast was sub-par, but dinner was much better. Clean and comfortable and quiet.

2016-02-09 10:03:55

The Stay was Just OK

My family & I stayed at this hotel in Jan. '16. We stay at a lot of hotels and this one was y far the worst of any: At check-in, the room was dirty, dirty bathtub, dirty toilet (that had toilet tissue in it), dirty sheets (with a hard booger), & dirty comforter, dirty pillar case. However, the customer service was great. The restaurant's food tasted just OK. There is no free breakfast buffet. There is a charge to eat at this hotel. The restaurant's customer service was outstanding! Will we stay again? No.

A convenient, friendly hotel

The Detroit Southfield Marriott is convenient for my business travel. The new lobby area is very nice and comfortable. Apparently the rooms will be re-done this year but they are quite good already. The corridors are looking a little tired so hopefully they will be re-done too. The staff are all very friendly and the price was competitive.

This hotel has a split personality

I've stayed here for the past two weeks, and have discovered a few things about this hotel. Starting at the bottom, the lobby area is newly renovated, and is quite comfortable to hang out in. The hallways are straight out of the movie " The Shining ". I half expected Jack Nicholson to jump out... Despite the hotel's age, it is very clean from what I can see. The remainder of the hotel rooms are soon to be remodelled as well.... which is good because they are starting to show their age. I personally found the bed and pillows to be the best of what I have experienced at any Marriott thus far in my travels. I did have room service at this hotel, and it was what you would expect. Internet service here was deplorable... even after spending the additional $6 to get the updated speed. Definitely an internet upgrade required here, but the television service was great. The highlight of my two weeks at this hotel was Joy. Joy is one of two (from what we can tell) staff that man the restaurant. This lady is amazing, and remembered what we liked and what we didn't (for a group of about 25 people). I'm not going to lie when I say that the hotel is probably average in the grand scheme of things, but Joy adds a star.

What a difference a year makes!

I stayed at this Marriott about a year or so, ago. It was awful. I had no intention of staying here again but ended up having to. I'm so glad I did because this Marriott looks great. They have obviously listened to their clients. Great job and you've won me back.

2015-12-12 08:05:55

So-So Experience

The lobby has been remodeled recently. It has a unique aviation theme, including a wall of aluminum with rivets behind the reception desk. I think there are plans to refurbish all the hallways and guest rooms - they were a bit shabby during my stay. The housekeeping service was inconsistent. Every day something was missing in my room (bath mat, breakfast menu, coffee), so the hotel could benefit from training and / or tighter inspection. The staff who assisted me were fantastic - helpful and cheerful! Once the hotel is completely remodeled, it's a good choice. For me, I like the Courtyard next door.

Week-end Trip To Southfield

Stayed at this Marriott from 11 / 27-11 / 29 / 2015. Check in was smooth and efficient. Requested a room with double beds, but due to a youth hockey event, none were available. Front desk staff worked with me to provide the best possible remaining option. Short version; everyone here was friendly and helpful. Average rooms (for Marriott), but clean. Everything that hotel staff could control was good. The staff went out of their way to be helpful (from manager to cleaning staff). Because of road construction, it was a challenge to get to the hotel. The construction is due to be completed by 12 / 01 / 2015. Lobby was open and uncluttered. Check-in was smooth although my room choice was not available (see above). I got a room on the sixth floor. My room was clean but like some reviews here suggest the room could use some updating. I was told that this is already in progress and would probably be ramped up by April. My bed was a little lumpy which caused my extremities to go to sleep (pins and needles). I reported this early the next morning and although they were full they worked to find me options (I had to wait until after noon to find out). I received a call with an offer to move my things to a new room while I was out! Nice. Often when travelling we all witness the angry loud people. This trip was no exception. Some angry hockey dad was over the top unreasonable, but the front staff stayed calm and tried to resolve the situation. Kudos! I would probably stay here again just because of the people who work there. Everyone seemed to enjoy their job. Almost every single employee there greeted me and asked if there was anything they could do to help. This happened at the bar, the restaurant, the pool, gym, front desk, in the elevator and even the guy cleaning the driveway!

2015-11-23 12:56:24

Don't let construction deter you

Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, modern decor, very nice courtyard views, and 1st floor rooms have patio. Everything you'd expect from a Marriot with some nice little touches thrown in to make it extra cozy. It was a little difficult to get to bc of the construction, but there is a back road that was easy once we found it.

Women's Only Dinner

My daughter and I attended a workshop at this hotel where they were trying to sell us a product. Although the hotel was beautiful, the dinner offered by this group was a cold box-type meal. We left before the end of the seminar and did not get to eat. We felt misled by the organization.

2015-08-09 14:33:12

Outdated, smells, horrific road construction!

Nice indoor pool and fitness area. Lobby has been modernized. However...3 rooms later.... solo business traveler finally got to bed at 1230 AM. Very outdated and is currently undergoing renovations. One elevator was completely shut down. I'd avoid until completed. Rooms are large but look very outdated and smell old. One room's odor aggravated my asthma badly! Ice machine could be heard on the entire hallway. Bathroom had hair in it. Roadwork in front of hotel is not clearly marked and difficult to get to hotel. I checked out and moved to another hotel.

GREAT HOUSEKEEPER

Good stay for a business trip Got a room on the 5th floor stayed for the week. Room was clean and comfortable. Kristin one of the housekeepers, did a great job and was always friendly! The Good: * Breakfast & Lunch is good * Buffet is good (however fruits are bad in quality) * Free INTERNET wifi in the room * FAST INTERNET connection in the room * Free English newspaper in the room *Free car parking * Fast check in & check out * Friendly staffs * Iron and the Ironing Board is provided in the room * Slippery is provided in the room The bad: * Swimming pool need to clean as regulary and upgrade needed! * Hotel is a bit old, the surrounding is not so clean.

2014-08-23 08:32:23

There are better choices in the area

I have stayed here many times and unfortunately, I see this property trending downward in cleanliness and overall service. The hotel is also older and in desperate need of refurbishment. To start, I had an employee stay the previous week and he mentioned that some other business travelers had experienced bed bugs. In fairness, I did not see any, but one of my coworkers did see several unusual bugs in his room this past week. My room was marginally clean, with some of the trash not removed after the housekeeping service. There was also some extra hairs in the bathroom. The rooms are small and the room air conditioners are on their last legs. On my last visit I had the wall unit that kept falling apart and rattling all night. This visit the A / C was just louder than it should have been. The halls are dingy and the wallpaper is very dated. Restaurant and bar service used to be very good, but that seems to have slipped also. One evening, one of the servers was downright rude when we sat in the bar to order drinks and we didn't want to order food. Overall, the service was just okay. Many of the people in my group also shared their dissatisfaction and would prefer to find a different hotel on our next trip. I would agree. Their are other hotels in the area that are nicer, and less per night.

Makeover Needed

Arrived post-checkin time with only a short wait and quick processing. Lobby is a clean and open area that houses a small bar, dining tables / chairs, and a few stuffed chairs. There is also a small gift shop. Hallway leading to our room was relatively dark and uninviting. Our room was on the concierge floor so my expectations were consistent with my stays at other Marriott properties. The room was disappointing for the following reasons: upon entering the room, there was a free standing mini-fridge (an odd place for a fridge I thought), there were large holes in the wall, a very loud air conditioner unit, and stuffed chair was stained. There are no bedside electrical outlets for charging phones, etc. Lastly, the housekeeping was inadequate. The bedspread was pulled up but the actual bed was not made, trash was taken out but dirty glasses and plate from the day before were left unattended, iron was left out, no soap, and carpet was not vacuumed. For these reasons, I called and requested a supervisor stop by to see my room and was told he would come in 30 minutes. Nobody ever came and 2 hours later I went to the front desk and reported these concerns again. Eventually someone came and cleaned the room but the supervisor never did reach out.... very disappointing as a frequent Marriott guest. But there were also good things about this location including the tastey hot breakfast for a nominal fee of $10, the comfy beds, and speedy wifi connection.

They will over book

This was the second time in 2 years we stayed at this motel, never again. We booked a solid month in advance for 2 doubles. Upon arrival, several couples were raising a fuss about the motel giving their rooms away. They gave our room away also! They offered a pull out bed, which didn't have sheets on it. They plopped down sheets so we could make it ourselves. Their attention to cleanliness needs to be addressed. Moldy tub area is less than desirable.. The hallway carpet is coming up, watch out for tripping hazards, and it wouldn't hurt to clean the walls once in a decade. Lumpy bed and pillows that are filled with air. This place went downhill in a years time. Should've slept in the car and saved the money.

Great Hotel

Had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. When we needed additional things, the staff made sure we were taken care over. Breakfast was really good. There was a wide variety. The only negative was that room service did a poor job cleaning my room.

Great Hotel but

We have stayed at this hotel numerous times over the past 20 years and it is a tired hotel. We understand that a complete renovation will be undertaken in the fall of 2014. The lobby, rooms, hallways, elevators, landing areas on floors, restaurant all need a complete makeover. On the positive side the bedding was certainly Marriott quality but the air conditioner was very loud.. Our rooms were never made up until late in the afternoon I mean very late sometimes after 5. I found that to be an irritant. On a positive side we found all the staff to be warm, courteous and more than helpful. Our TV was not working well (apparently the hotel satellite system needed repair so they comped my last night as we decided to check out at 7 PM and move to a Hotel in Windsor Ont where our flight was departing in the morning. which was very nice. we had stayed for 6 nights. Also all the parking and there is lots of parking. I certainly felt that was a bonus. Since we have family in West Bloomfield it is very convenient to shoot on the NW highway and then up Telegraph

Needs a Revamp

This is one of the tired Marriott properties. The Courtyard next door seems newer and better maintained. If that doesn't bother you maybe the road leading to the hotel will. It is full of potholes which cannot be avoided and you will definitely need a wheel alignment by the time you check-out. The room itself was on the Concierge Level so it may have been larger than the others but it is tired. There is only one spare outlet a available by the air conditioner which makes it difficult to charge all the electrical gear like computers and phones. Not a good business environment although the Internet seemed fast and easy to get on. It wa free with the room. The staff are friendly and have lots of recommendations about where to eat in the area. I would avoid meals at the hotel because they are not cheap and there are many good restaurants in the immediate area. The Concierge Lounge, as will all American Marriott properties is closed from early Friday to Monday morning so you will be wasting your money on the Concierge Level if you book it on the weekends. The hotel did offer 750 points for my stay OR a free buffet breakfast in the lobby as compensation. That was a good touch. My room faced the highway and noise was no issue. The room was very quiet. I think I will try the Courtyard next door, on my next visit. The more we frequent these tired properties, the less likely they are to refurbish them. May I suggest the following... 1) Put some water and coffee in the lobby like other Marriott properties. 2) Monitor the Premiere Parking Area, it always seems to be full.

Pretty good overall stay

This is an older hotel as you can tell by the styling but it has been pretty well taken care of. The staff we dealt with was pretty good and the concierge lounge was a nice option to have. The exercise room is typical with what you needed and there is a pool if needed. The location is a bit tough to get to and down some of the worst roads in the area (not Marriotts fault I know). There is a nice little bar in the lobby if you need anything as there isn't a whole lot in the area for easy access for meals. Overall a good stay and we would stay there again.

Great stay!! Was better than expected!

Seen alot of negative reviews, so automatically im thinking bad as i walk in. To be honest we are a young couple, mid 20s, and not very picky. We have 5 things we ask for with a hotel, air works, rooms are clean, good customer service, towels, comfy bed. Im not a hard man to please. If you hear a kid running done the hall once or twice, lobby isnt to your standards, you expect more from a gift shop, then your too picky in my book. Walked in and Barbara was the sweetest and kindest front desk rep. She small talked with me about the city of Detroit and the festivals, gave us a great room, was very insistant on seeing if i needed anything to help make my stay comfortable. Our room was clean, bathroom was great, air worked, towels were packed, sheets were fresh. If your looking for a hotel as a nice, clean, crisp safe haven then this is a good spot.

Great management, accommodations, and service!

I received great service and accommodations at the Detroit Marriott Southfield on my latest business stay there. In particular, I wish to compliment Front Office Manager Elshawn Morton, Barbara, Carina, and Roneka, who all are extremely professional, friendly, and customer focused. My Marriott Reward Elite status was recognized and the concierge lounge is great. When I experienced a small check-in issue due to an electronic booking mix-up, Mr. Morton worked diligently and quickly to rectify the problem. I will certainly stay at this hotel again!

2014-03-19 09:31:48

Good option to consider around Southfield

Nice hotel, with friendly staff Rooms were clean aswell as bathroom Food is ok, burgers and salmon are decent for a couple of days but many options available outside Internet wifi is free, speed enough for sametime video conversation Pricy, above average but better vs Westin

2014-03-07 09:42:39

Good location - clean hotel

I have stayed at this hotel about 10 times a year for the last 10 years. The location is convenient to I-696, Hwy 10, Hwy 39, and Telegraph Rd. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant and in the concierge room is pretty standard, but good. I always try to stay on the sixth floor, with the concierge room, or the first floor if the sixth floor isn't available. I do this to try to avoid the elevators. They are really slow at this location.

2014-03-02 10:15:26

Good for business stay

Room was clean and in order but like one reviewer had mentioned the location of the TV being on the wall off to the side of the bed is not good placement. If there were two people in the room with one at the work desk and one in bed - both could not watch the TV. (Plus if you were in bed you would have to lay on your side) There were two other issues I had - got me room key card and it would not work. Went down to the front desk and she discovered she had given me the wrong room number. Had requested a wake up call but never got it. Probably gave the call to the incorrect room number. However another person in my group did not get one either so who really knows? Check in was really great as there were 5 others had arrived just before us and we really didn't have to wait long. Not a place I would pick if not on business. A continental breakfast which would be free in most hotels cost $10 here. The service there was subpar by the way) No other restaurants nearby so not much choice. Bottom line - I think there was going strictly for the business travelers.

2014-02-23 16:05:39

Good stay for business

I stayed here for two nights for work. The room was clean and the bed was comfy (I like a soft bed). Check-in was fast… services were good. Ate in the restaurant one evening and for hotel food it wasn't bad. The staff was extremely friendly. I would stay here again and recommend it to people in the area.

2014-02-23 14:51:05

Business Trip-acceptable stay

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and it was fine. My room was clean and the service and staff good. The only complaint I had was that the TV in the King room was off to the side of the bed but not a major problem.

Marriott Detroit / Southfield + / - = ??

I have pretty high standards when it comes to the flagship Marriott hotel. To me, it's the original. It does not carry the Courtyard, Fairfield, TownePlace Suites name, etc. It is the Marriott. And I have stayed in many around the world and I will compare them differently then, let's say, to a Fairfield. I will start with the positives. The staff were all spot on. Polite, courteous, professional. From the front desk to the executive lounge and the restaurant. Same high standard at almost every Marriott I have stayed. The fitness center was reasonable. Though I think many hotels still have some work to do when it comes to helping road warriors stay fit. I enjoyed the meal at the restaurant. In addition to the service, I was pleasantly surprised by the many vegetarian options besides a salad. My quinoa stir fry was quite good. Finally, they had a super cool concept for earning points and staying green. For all of my hotel stays over a single night, I do not use housekeeping. I hang up my towels, make my bed, etc. This property has a card you can put on your door indicating you do not want your room serviced. In exchange, you get a voucher for 5 bucks off your bill in the restaurant or room service or 1000 Marriott rewards points. Finally, I get a little perk for something I with every stay. Now for my concerns. The rooms. Old, drafty, visually unappealing. In need of a complete makeover. There is only one accessible outlet in the entire room. And it is on the outside facing wall. Cold air was pouring in from this outlet. When I plugged in my charger, the charger was actually cold. I had no choice but to use that outlet because there are no available outlets next to the bed or even the desk. The room is not functional from a work perspective. The room as a whole was not inviting. As a road warrior, I actually look forward to returning to my room. I call my hotels, hometels. This room, not so much. And perhaps I am being overly nitpicky, but even the elevators. I was worried I would get stuck a few times. And when they did move, I have been on roller coasters that were smoother. I realize gutting a hotel and doing a room-by-room makeover is no small task. Attention to detail is a hallmark of the best hotels in the world. This property has the staff in place. And I think that is harder to get right then the look and feel of the property.

Family stay after Red Wings

Booked this hotel through Priceline. Staff were super friendly. Also upgraded to concierge floor. I agree with the other reviews that this hotel is a bit dated. Drafty windows & very loud AC / Heater unit were the down sides. Stayed for pricey breakfast buffet. Service was excellent, food was ok. Reasonable stay for what we paid.

2013-12-22 21:58:55

Wonderful Hotel & Management!

My husband and our two boys stayed for a family event over a weekend in December. We were upgraded to the Concierge Floor. We had requested an allergy free room with extra pillows and towels. All was perfect when we arrived late in the evening. The beds were very comfortable. The shower and bath products were divine! The front desk staff, especially Sabiena went out of her way to make us feel at home! The breakfasts were included with our room rate. The food was yummy and again the dining staff fantastic! We only had one slight glitch in the evening of our second night, there was only one person running the front desk / gift shop / phone lines. I had to wait 20 minutes for my question to be answered while she multi-tasked. They need a second person at the desk in the evenings too. It was a snowy weekend. The pool roof was leaking ice water into the pool... brrrr if you swam under that. The hot tub was scalding hot. A child could get burned in that water. We didn't see the exercise room until the morning we were leaving, but it looked well maintained.

Another stay at the Detroit Marriott in Southfield

Back again for another stay at this hotel. It continues to be a pleasant experience. Only complaint would be lack of a fridge in the room. Room was clean and quiet. Really like having a thermostat to control the heat, rather than just a guess-work dial.

2013-11-21 18:46:36

Wonderful service and quiet hotel

You come to expect a minimum level of service from Marriotts but something must have happened in the past few months as it seems like they've upped their game. Detroit isn't a particularly touristy town (like Chicago) but the staff here was simply wonderful. Everyone was polite, helpful, pleasant and welcoming. It's great to see a genuine smile and the hotel as a facility definitely shines. Well done!

2013-11-06 20:36:54

A bit dated but comfy

We stayed at this hotel from late Friday night to Sunday morn. We were in town for an NFL football game. The hotel is about 20 mins to Ford Field which is right next door to Comerica Field. It is about 30 mins to Great Lakes a Crossing Mall. The bed is comfy. The Tv is a flat screen. The shower has a tub but was a bit dated. The water pressure was pretty good as far as I recall. I believe the hotel had free wifi and free parking. We did not use the pool but checked it out. The water was cold and it did not look very clean. Overall it was good for our needs. I believe we booked 2 nights for around $100 with taxes. A good value. We would prob stay here again for that price.

2013-11-05 11:39:55

Nice stay for a football weekend

Stayed here for two nights for the Michigan State-Michigan football game. Have stayed here once before, about three years ago, and the hotel remains a very good place to stay. Very reasonable weekend AAA rate ($87 / night). Room and bathroom very nicely furnished, very nice buffet breakfast. Nothing spectacular, but certainly well worth the money.

2013-11-04 10:50:20

One night stay

We were going to see a show in Ferndale, Michigan and Southfield looked like it had a lot of hotels so I booked a hotel on Hotwire and ended up with the Marriott for $56 + tax / fees for a total of $70US. It was easy to find, right off of M10, you could see it off the highway. Our mapquest directions to the show were a little odd but it was quite close once we figured out where to go, Check in was very smooth, reception clerks very friendly and helpful. The hotel has free parking and free wifi. I saw an indoor swimming pool but we didn't use it, there also appears to be a fitness room but we didn't check it out. We stayed in a room on the 5th floor, we were just overnighting here so we didn't use any amenities. The most important thing for me in a hotel is the bed, this one was extremely comfortable, lots of pillows, down comforter. There was a small fridge in the room, supplies to make tea or coffee. The shower was fine, hot water and every toiletry I needed-shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, soap, lotion and hand soap. There was a portable hair dryer in the bathroom. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Slightly worn property, but VERY nice!

This hotel is very clean and the staff was very professional. The internet worked great too. The carpet on the stairs looked a little worn, other than that, the place is very nice. The bed was especially great. It felt like a brand new mattress. The pillows are great too.

2004-12-15 00:00:00

Disappointing

As someone who has stayed in numerous hotels in the Detroit vicinity, I have come to expect the worst. That is mainly because most Detroit establishments, no matter what the good or service (and I use the term very loosely), are usually subpar compared with most other large cities in the country. I stayed in this Marriot through the weekend of October 29, 2004. My room was in a corner of the building which allowed for a odd little hallway leading to a nice sized room. The hallway had several windows which gave the impression of even more space. The view from the hallway was nothing more than the top of the atrium. The view from the room was of the back parking lot. The room is frankly in need of serious renovation. There were stains on the floor, curtains and even on the bedspreads. I have honestly seen better at Motel 6. The size of the room made the television appear smaller than it was. The location isn't good for late night snacks or adventures because there are hardly any stores or restuarants near it. The lobby and bar areas are quite nice. That's the only reason I didn't rate this one as terrible. To be fair, I must mention that in addition to having experienced numerous subpar " 3 and 4 star " hotels in the area, thanks to Priceline I only paid a total of $45 per night for my stay at this hotel. I would imagine that if I were silly enough to pay $150 or more per night for a hotel my expectations might be more extreme.

good hotel, staff could use some work

i booked a room with the romance package this past june. the hotel was great - rooms were clean and all. the hotel even had the package (champagne and strawberries) in my room when i arrived. however, one thing that bothered me during my stay was the staff. first, upon arrival, they refused to give me the second bottle of champagne that was included in my package despite having showed them e-mail confirmations of the package. second, the manager finally came to my room to read the confirmations but made to attempt to apologize for the situation. the cleaning staff could also use some training in what 'do not disturb' means. we had the late check-out option included in our package (4pm checkout) and the cleaning staff must have attempted to come in at least 3 times between 12pm-4pm despite having a 'do not disturb' sign on the door. the hotel was great and the package was great (after i finally got the hotel to give it to me) but the staff definitely could use some work.

Good stay at the Courtyard

Stayed a week at the Southfield Courtyard. Its an older building but redone with all the new Courtyard furniture and bedding. The bedding is a nice improvement over the old stuff and I slept well, I must admit. There is a nice lobby and fireplace. The staff was nice and helpful. The breakfast was average.

2006-01-22 00:00:00

Very Nice

Very nice. Extremely nice staff. Gave me an early check-in with a family of four. Pool was clean and water warm. Coffee available in the lobby 24 hours a day free. Staff even gave my children a snack from the cooler (ice cream bar) just to be nice. I would recommend it.

2012-11-08 17:50:08

DIRTY

This hotel is just dirty! My bathroom was not cleaned from the previous guest, there was still soap film in the soap dish, and this did not improve throughout my stay. The public restrooms are dirty as well, hair on the floor for days on end. The staff is very nice and helpful but that does not make up for a dirty hotel!

2013-09-27 15:23:01

Not up to Marriott standards

Stayed at this location for business total of 3 nights; Staff and process Very friendly staff, answered all questions -- didn't give the standard Marriott acknowledgement of their Rewards customer's however. Restuarant staff also friendly and responsive. Check in simply and quick although this was a 35 person group staying there so all details done in advance. Facility and Room It appears they are at the limit for Marriott's recommended time frame for upgrade or updating; The building is old and showing the wear; Lobby area somewhat dated and again worn and furnishings are a little beat up. One elevator and it's slow; Lobby and lounge chairs are broken down and hard to get out off; Carpet is a little tired The exterior grounds are OK although they had a leaking irrigation problem which ran for the entire 4 days I was there -- water ponding across the sidewalk to the entrance. This is an example of what appears to be poor maintenance on the entire property. Sleeping Room OK size but no frig or microwave; The bed was a little weak on the mattress -- linen was fresh; Carpet was somewhat flat and again worn; The one chair was non-recline and no ottoman; The lamps were dim and the stand-up floor lamp was 3-way switch with one way bulb. The desk and chair were turned at an odd angle; Again the furniture was above average for nicks and scrapes; This is unusual for Marriot but they had limited outlets -- night stands had clocks or other lamps plugged in on the only 2 outlets; The desk outlet was hidden and again only two way outlets -- with laptop, cell phone charger etc, not enough and ill placed outlets. (fortunately I always carry a 3 plug outlet adapter0 Bath was smaller than usual as you have to close door to use tub or toilet; OK clean -- not sparkling; My room - 333 -- had a poor view of the lower roof (through very dirty windows and window inside ledge) which displayed a collection of faded / rusted / bent up vents and equipment -- one huge vent was solid rust. I would mention, a fellow worker / guest found his room dirty and the bed covered with Dorito chips; They moved him when he called the desk. Dining / Food Had breakfast which was included in the group room rate; First morning, staff was trying to make eggs on a smooth glass cook top with 2 small omlet pans; She seems confused and obviously did know how to cook eggs -- two of us asked for over medium and over light - both had runny white and barely cooked; The buffet had what appearred to be powdered eggs - faded yellow, dry sausage, runny grits; The bread for toast was stale; OK on the fruit and oatmeal. The following mornings the " omlet cook " wasn't open until 6:45 (should be 6am), but the waitress got me a good omlet from the kitchen -- this time the breads were fresh (but no english muffin however). Probably would not use this facility again.

2008-01-24 20:58:25

Consistent Courtyard Quality

This is a typical courtyard room. The only downside is this is one of the layouts where the elevator is way down at the end of the hall. The room was clean, and bed was comfortable. Desk was very large with a great workspace. One other negative was on one morning there was limited hot water, not sure if that was a fluke or if it happens often. (My stay was only two days and the second morning was fine) All in all, I would recommend this hotel and will stay there in the future.

2005-10-24 00:00:00

Loved the Marriott in Southfield!!!

I had no idea this hotel existed. I was so happy when my reservation was cancelled at the Embassy Suites. The staff was so friendly. My room was beautiful- I slept great in the comfy bed. The meal, which was steak that I had at the Hotel was one of the best meals I had in a long time. Top it off with a nice glass of wine, it was a great way to relax after a long day on the road. This hotel is ideal for people traveling on business. The access to high speed internet, the fitness facility and again, the staff was a welcomed change to my usual less than great stays.

2012-10-25 23:43:47

Great breakfast, clean rooms

Our hockey team stayed here while in town for a tournament, and I'm glad that we did. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast was great. There was a mix up with our room when we checked in that was fixed by the assistant manager, but nothing major. My only complaint would be that they charge you $10 for a microwave and $10 for a refrigerator if you want them. I would stay here again.

2011-06-20 11:40:29

Room service called me late at night

Overall the hotel room was fine, however, I had ordered room service. At 9:50pm, the phone rang. Room service asked me how my meal was and if my tray was in the hall. I couldn't believe it. I had to be up at 5am and was already in bed. I have never had this happen anywhere before.

2011-02-11 20:02:47

Good stay for business

The breakfast in the concierge is delicious. big pool

2011-06-11 22:01:47

Clean rooms, but loud and smokey

I stayed in the hotel for a week and the rooms were consistent with what I have seen in other Courtyard Mariot hotels. During the week the hotel was fairly quiet, but once the weekend came around it was a different story. Very loud with large numbers of people having parties in rooms throughout the hotel. Even though the entire hotel is non-smoking, it didn't seem to stop anyone from smoking in their rooms and the hallways. A call to the front desk didn't resolve the problem. Some large groups were clearly renting one room so that 12+ people could party and use the pool. Even though the rooms have been updated the experience was the worst I've had at a Courtyard by far.

2009-04-15 21:18:08

Okay but not great

This hotel is, well, just fine. It was clean and featured comfortable beds, but the the hotel as a hole what a notch or two below what I have experienced at other Marriotts. The lobby is quite small and contains a tiny, open lounge and small restaurant. I did not use the fitness center or pool, but both were rather small. I suppose if you are traveling on business to Southfield for a night this place is fine. There is Courtyard next door and a Westin approx. 1 1 / 2 miles away. If you are going into downtown Detroit I would not recommend this hotel.

2012-01-02 21:36:20

Not the best stay

I am a big fan of the Marriott brand, but this hotel does not get to high of marks from me. First, the area seemed bad. As a single woman I can't say I felt safe. There were alot of people just hanging around the lobby and parking lot. The room was nice, but not the cleanest and looked worn. Someone had written a phone number on one of the walls with marker.... The walls seemed thin, I could hear the rooms on both sides and the hall traffic. Pluses, great Bed and very friendly staff. Most likely though I would not pick this hotel again.

2012-01-30 14:16:52

Business Destination

This is my third trip to this hotel in the last two years. I was pleasantly surprised this time around that the wifi / internet was free. It has been an irritant to me that the lower cost brands offer free wifi, yet the more costly properties still charged for theirs. This was my first time dining in the restaurant at the hotel (there aren't many other choices nearby). The variety of offerings was not tremendous, but sufficient. My cajun ribeye was decent, but had no discernable seasoning on it. My friend's cedar plank salmon took forever to come out, to the point where we became convinced that they'd forgotten to order or make it. The room was a decent room, but my heater fan was a bit too loud. It would have been ok if it were continuous, but the fact that it went on and off was distracting.

2012-02-25 21:47:48

Not what a Marriott stay should be

I am at the Marriott in Southfield as I write this review; and I have stayed here previously. This stay has changed my view of Marriott for the worse. I checked in on 2 / 23 / 12 to attend a family funeral and the hotel seems under staffed and the staff here is somewhat disconnected and rude at times. The front desk staff is friendly and the restaurant staff are very helpful, especially Crystal who works during the breakfast buffet. Our room was okay but when we arrived we had a hard time getting clean sheets for our sleeper sofa and practically had to beg to get extra pillows for our room. This hotel needs to update more than the lobby, the rooms could use a few updates and the bathroom shower curtain has many stains and looks like someone neglected to replace things that should have been replaced years ago. I think this hotel caters more to business professionals and local families wanting to utilize the indoor pool. Overall, I couldn't recommend this hotel but it wasn't the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. I think the area is safer than my options in the city of Detroit, but Southfield is pretty low budget too.

2009-08-16 22:10:15

Good overall

This hotel is a great value right now. We paid $69 a night with WIFI included. Hard to beat. This is a full service hotel for the most part. The room was updated with flat screen tv's. The bathroom is typical Marriott. The bed was nice, not too hard or soft. I used the gym and it was one of the better gyms I have used recently. We did not use the pool. They had special parking for Marriott elite members. This was a nice perk. The downside is really the location and service in the restaurant. Southfield is surrounded by businesses, so not much to do without driving. My guess in during the week this turns into a business traveler hotel It's not the end of the world, but if this is what your looking for then you should look elsewhere. We had a late day snack on Friday and the service was horrible. I figured it was just crowded, but we had breakfast on Sunday and the service was just as bad. Overall the hotel is clean, safe, full service and a great value. I would stay again.

2008-08-03 13:49:25

ok as long as you get a good rate

this marriott has very nice staff, the sunday brunch buffet is super and the chef is very experienced and professional. thats the best part. room service is nice, but limited. location is pretty nice also. only 10 mins (with good traffic) from downtown detroit. diverse restaurants in area. the only potential negatives are that the rooms are borderline outdated. furniture is becoming worn and not cleaned well. slightly dusty, leftover bottled water and baby crib from previous resident shows cleaning didnt pay close attention. beds are super comfy!!! bedding kept coming off the mattress ?!? free wifi!!! pool area looks nice, but i didnt get a chance to visit... ok hotel if you pay abt 75.00 / night...

This Marriott is Awesome!

Had the best stay at the Marriott Southfield. Staff was absolutely incredible. Accomodated our every request... with a smile! Let my 2 yr. old and myself check in at 9 am while my husband tended to his commitments. Even drove us to the local mall in the courtesy van and picked us up when we were through. Very clean, quiet hotel with wonderful beds and linens. Complimentary computer / business station for using internet and printing documents. Nice pool area with lockers etc. Bar was nice as was restaurant. Marriott is doing somthing very right, especially at this Southfield hotel. The staff is what makes the big difference. They seem happy to assist and are courteous and go out of their way to make their guests happy. Love this hotel!!!!

2007-06-13 00:00:00

Good Standard

Stayed here for a week on business and as most Marriots you know what to expect. The room was clean and pleasant, as was the hotel generally. Would stay again

2007-07-09 00:00:00

marriot

This hotel was nice. The room was clean and the staff was helpful. I would stay here again and would recommend this place to a friend.

Blood spattered on the sheets!!

I'm a frequent Detroit Southfield visiter and stayed Westin and Hilton in the past, but read about the good reviews about Marriot Southfield and gave them a try for a 2 nights stay in Apr. I paid $230 per night booked directly from hotel. My room was on 2nd floor and had a view of the parking lot and the houses. Not too bad compare to Westin hotel has only parking view, so Marriot offers a bit more homely atomospher. I also liked the swimming pool area that's slightly better than Westin hotel's pool although they supply towels that a bit smaller than ideal. My room was small with 2 beds, and one of the bed sheets had blood spattered! Obviously the maid didn't change the sheets and just covered up with comforter.. I complained thru their questionare but haven't heard of them.

Does not live up to the Marriott brand!!!!

When I booked this hotel, it showed a microwave and refridgerator, which my room (RM 314 from 4 / 20 - 4 / 22) did not have. When I inquired the front desk about it, they told me that I could be moved to a room, if one was available, that came with these appliances. They also informed me that it would be an additional $20 ($10 for each, per day) per day for these " NORMALLY " inclusive items. I also did not like the fact that they charge a $25 incidental fee daily, whether you use anything or not and if you do not use anything, it takes DAYS for them to put the money back on your credit card. It also appeared that I was eligable for the Contenitial Breakfast only to find out, my room did not qualify. I also had to ask for coffee and cups that was an inclusive item for the room. I will not be using this hotel again. I have gotten far better service and amenities at lower ranking hotels!!!!!!!

Excellent staff and a nice place to stay

I traveled in on business so I checked in at dark and left early in the morning. Ray at check in was outstanding and the shuttle driver was one of the nicest gentleman you would ever meet. The exercise room was clean and had good equipment. For some reason every Marriott room is on the small side but it was clean. The bed and pillows were very comfortable with a nice flat panel tv. My biggest flaw is the wifi was very weak in my room which explained why everyone was working on their laptops down in the lobby. I had a sandwich in the hotel grill and it was fantastic with good service. Breakfast buffet the next morning had a good selection of hot choices and a great fruit bar. There again everyone who served was super friendly and it was a good stay.

Enjoyable stay

The Detroit Marriott Southfield has received some mixed reviews, but it would seem that the unflattering ones are not always deserved. While this Marriott property may not be the fanciest in the chain, it is a nice property that on its own merit is a solid hotel. This hotel is a full-service Marriott, but it operates on a smaller scale than most others in the chain. The lobby is not particularly large. However, it is inviting enough and offers access to the bar / restaurant, the pool area and hallways towards meeting rooms. The business center (which is a pretty poor excuse for one) is located on the first floor, tucked into a corner and does not offer any privacy. The property itself is not particularly large, and therefore, getting to the guest rooms is quick and painless. The hallways are well lit and nicely maintained. The rooms themselves are very comfortable and fairly well stocked with amenities. A large, flat screen TV (that swivels) is very prominent. The bedding was extremely comfortable. The biggest drawback with the hotel has to do with its location. With no traffic, driving time to Downtown Detroit is about 20-25 minutes. The issue with the location has nothing to do with its distance from the city, however. It is just rather difficult to find. Even when on the necessary state route to reach the property, it is tucked away and hardly visible. The highway is a split highway, making turns a little tricky. In addition, it is then necessary to take an access road (which is in horrible condition) to the hotel. Once you arrive, parking is plentiful (and complimentary) and the lot and is good condition. There are eateries, pharmacies, etc in the general area, but all require driving to access them. There are no such offerings within walking distance. The area feels safe.

Great

My room / suite was huge, wonderful, clean and quite. The staff was accommodating and friendly. Everything was just great. Even though there was a wedding party staying at the hotel, parking wasn't a problem. Would definitely stay there again!!!!!

Overnight Business Stay

This hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. Was quiet and comfortable! There appeared to be a few wedding parties that were staying here but never heard a sound all night. Will stay again when traveling to town for business.

Comfortable Stay

Had an awesome stay with friends from the city... We came to visit for a festival in Detroit... Had a ground floor room which was very convenient... Overall my stay was great.. The staff were friendly, fast and efficient. The cleanliness of the room I was impressed with... And the comfort of the bed one of the best... Just a few housekeeping problems I noticed... For example not replacing items after room has been cleaned, and not cleaning off the pullout tray where you make coffee.. but if not for those minor issues we will be back...

Great Hotel for the money

Close to downtown Michigan, great room rate... clean rooms, very nice resturant.... close to many upscale and medium of the road resturants.... nice pool work out room. Staff is very friendly... area is safe. No price for parking. Easy in and out access to all major roadways. Like the locations very much. Great for the weekly business traveler.

Pleasant Stay

I have stayed at this location for business several times, most recent stay was June 14th. The staff from the front desk to maintenance and housekeeping are always so friendly and helpful. They have a good bar and restaurant, reasonable price for meals, familiar wait staff on return trips, attentive, professional but low key. The rooms are very comfortable and clean but aging. This is close to the business areas and freeways, easy access to highways. I've always stayed as a solo business traveler, would stay here again no question.

Wedding

Was in Michigan for a wedding and had the pleasure of staying at this hotel. I must say that the service was top notch. From the front desk to breakfast staff and food was great, and to top it off when I left my iPad in the room, the cleaning lady chased me down to return it. The room was very clean and the grounds were beautiful as well.

Great Location Great Price but hotel is a tad tired. Love the ample parking and decent restaurant

Hotel has been my Detroit hotel of choice for many years. Marriott's branding helps a great deal and the standards are high. My only negative is the rooms are tired and the common areas need updating.

Great Service, but a bit run down

I have been staying at this hotel every week for the past 12 weeks on business. The concierge lounge and all of the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and willing to do whatever it takes to make the guests happy. The only drawback is the hotel is a bit tired and needs some renovation and maintenance done in the rooms and the overall facilities. I would recommend this for the business traveler as that seems to be the majority of the people that stay at the facility. Just do not expect five star hotel facilities although the staff are five star quaility.

Clean room, affordable price

I stayed here last weekend on business for one night. The check-in process was smooth, the staff were friendly, and the room was clean and quiet. The hotel has a nice pool (closes at 11) and a decent fitness room (24 hours). The hotel rooms had updated HD flatscreen TVs. The rooms were spacious and quiet. A great place to stay if you need an affordable, quiet, and clean room.

Very pleasant stay!

My husband and I purchased a " Living Social " romantic get-away deal at this site for the weekend. Coming from Ohio we were wondering if we made the right decision for our anniversary. But from the time we booked the weekend until the time we left the Marriott Southfield we were very glad we decided to go. Along with the great price for the room we were able to upgrade to the top floor (6th) for more privacy at no cost, at the most I believe it would have cost us $10 on a Saturday. It turns out that it was a great decision because there were 3 large parties and I mean parties on the lower floors that might have been fun to join had we not been on our anniversary get-away but we were not really thinking about joining them. Our king bed room was very nice with a comfortable bed and plush linens, a new large screen TV, clean, and decorated very nicely with historical pictures of early Southfield. It was a great touch. With our package came a food debit towards a dinner at their on-site restaurant " The Fire Iron Grill ". We both enjoyed very fresh vegetables, salad and rolls with our Ribeye steaks. While the food was good, the service was exceptional. As a matter of fact everyone at this hotel literally bent over backwards to meet all of our needs. It reminded me of what we expect when we go to an exclusive resort... but many times do NOT get! These people at Southfield have been trained well! But we got the feeling that it wasn't just their training, Marriott did a very good job of hiring just really NICE people! While we ate, Elshawn at the front desk was busy calling clubs in the area to see what was happening for a " seasoned " couple. After opting out of the smokey casino crowd about 15 minutes away in downtown Detroit, we chose to have room service (Champaign & chocolate covered strawberries to die for!) and stay in for a quiet night. All in all we couldn't have chosen a better place to spend our 34th anniversary and look forward to returning again for another one!

Friendly staff, comfortable stay

I have been a guest consistently of the Marriott Southfield for over a year. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. I always feel welcomed there. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I enjoy the food at the restaurant on the property. The conceirge service is a plus since it is a full service Marriott. My only complaint is that the wireless service is not great. The connection drops pretty frequently which can pose quite a problem for business travellers.

Wireless internet connection kept dropping

Staffs are friendly, exercise room with individual TV was greatly appreciated. Breakfast was great although some changes in selection would be nice. Staffs are very friendly and always willing to help. The only complaint I have is the wireless internet connection is really disappointing, given that this is a Marriott brand hotel! There is also no WIFI in the exercise room.

Quick stopover, good value

Had a one night stay at this hotel. Room was clean, bed was so so. Overall I've found this hotel features very competitive rates for the Marriott chain. Could do some little odds and ends like better bedding and upgrade the air conditioning system (it was loud) to improve the overall experience. But these are little nit-picky things. Next time I'm back in the area and need a place to stay for the night I'll keep this hotel in the running.
