Very comfortable B & B
Very happy with our stay - Jackie greeted us- she had just taken over the B & B- & she was doing it very well- Comfortable deck which we were sheltered from the wind, we were able to get a game of cards in before dinner- She cooked us a super dinner of Fish Cakes- (which we ordered when we booked) Not much around- but didn't need to go anywhere- Breakfast was awesome also- Jackie can direct you to whatever you would like to do on the island- thanks for recommending Salmonier Rescue Park- was a great place- enjoyed it very much- Enjoyed our whole trip in Newfoundland
Research for my business
I had a lot of breakfasts this summer at various hotels, Jackie at Northwest provided the best breakfast I've had in a long time. She also made dinner for myself and her other guests and it was fabulous. Jackie is personable, professional, and wonderful. Jackie's facilities were prefect for my stop. Beautiful sitting room for guests to enjoy and above all the food was fantastic. Highly recommend Northwest Lodge Bed and Breakfast.
Wonderful hostess
We were lucky enough to stay at this B & B in early August. Jackie was very welcoming and was very helpful with suggested hikes. The room was well appointed, clean with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful, Jackie was accommodating to any dietary requests. Great stay
A good place to stay
Jackie was a great host, had excellent advice about the area and what to do and see... unfortunately for us, we didn't make a reservation for the UNESCO site. Do not miss this, but book well in advance! And book this place for a few days... the only down side is that there are not many restaurants in the area.
Highly recommended stay
We were at Captain Jack's for 1 night as it was a convenient place to visit Mistaken Point the following day. This logistic worked really well for us. After a day that started in St. John's, we were easily able to drive and hike along the Irish Loop and ended at what was booked as Northwest B & B a number of months ago and has changed ownership and name. Jackie has changed a few things since she has bought this lovely B & B. One of these is that she does not offer dinner as an option. But, because we had booked dinner, we were affected a beautiful, full course dinner. jackie is an extremely capable woman and she prepared a wonderful home cooked dinner for us. Salad, cod au gratin, steamed cauliflower and broc and roasted potatoes. A fresh upside down berry cake completed the dinner with an offering of tea or coffee. We were invited to enjoy our own bottle of wine. Jackie was hospitable as well as informative. And we were able to meet Gerard and Bertha. They were the previous owners who were leaving after doing a fill in for Jackie while she celebrated a special family occasion. Chatting with them also gave us perspective for what they undertook here and where Jackie is taking her new adventure. We wish Jackie well in her business. This is a non-stop endeavour and we highly recommend travelers in this part of Newfoundland to stop by. The beds were comfortable, spotless rooms, good shower strength. The iron content is of issue for showering. But bottled water is provided for brushing teeth and drinking? We travel with our own soap and shampoo, but the comments about these on offer are totally true. Perhaps Jackie will improve on this. But the price for a night's stay is very reasonable, so do not be deterred by these shortcomings. This is given 5 dots because the beds, personalities of people, common areas both indoor and out are great! The spaces are large and comfortable. We wish Jackie all the best in her new adventure, which is way more than a retirement plan. And, we got to meet Jackie's mom. A wonderful woman, cook (breakfast was delicious and we loved the muffins later in the day) and hospitable gal.
Peace and Tranquillity
Trepassey is a very quiet town which makes it perfect for this great B & B. It isnt right in town but is on highway 10 on the outskirts. The rooms are very comfortable and the common living room is perfect for visiting with other guests. There is also a patio area to enjoy on warm evenings. The full warm breakfast was delicious- with the added touch of wonderful fresh berry jams. As this town is very small there is not a lot to do and there is only one restaurant which is at the Avalon Inn but we enjoyed the food and the staff were so friendly. The B & B has a new owner Jackie whom we did not have the pleasure of meeting as she was away but we did meet the previous owners Bertha and Gerard. Thank you to all of you for a wonderful stay and for making us feel so welcome.
Great location
The rooms are tastefully decorated and super clean. Jackie's breakfast is out of this world and she is very warm, friendly and knowledgeable about the best sites to visit. The location is close to many vistas where a camera is a must.
Great place
Very clean. Friendly staff. Loved it. Would go back. Very close to the Mistaken Point Unesco site. Awesome experience going there. The house was very nice. Enjoyed a fire in the backyard with our host.
Trepassey, Northwest Lodge Bed &Breakfast; Best Breakfast
We knew this place was special when we pulled into the driveway and greeted by the smiling amiable proprietor Jackie. We felt welcome the moment we arrived. After a long drive were needed a caffeine fix and Jackie did not waste a moment offering us piping hot satisfying coffee. Entering her home was akin to arriving home after a time away. Our cozy room was clean and had one queen bed that squeaked when ever my spouse turned, however this did not wake him from his slumber. Our room had everything needed for a comfortable night: TV, cable, WiFi, alarm clock radio, fan, chair, refrigerator, bottle of water, heat and more. An ample sized bathroom and walk in shower was appreciated. Soap, was the size of a stick of gum could easily be lost in a body orifice and remember to open the plastic shampoo container prior to entering the shower. If you stay here perhaps you will find out why. Oh and the breakfast! Jackie arrived early and we woke to the aroma of coffee brewing and bread toasting. Breakfast was hot, fresh and I had the pleasure of having bakeapple jelly, oh so good. Our sit down, served breakfast was an opportunity to socialize with other travelers; Fresh fruit, quiche, muffins, juice and more were served to us by Jackie. A common patio and living room allowed for an impromptu music jam or sharing travel stories with Jackie and other guests. Be aware that due to minerals in the town water it is brown. We drank only bottled water. T
Great location for Mistaken Point Visit
Four of us stayed two nights and found the accommodations clean and comfortable. There is a central living area to relax in and Jackie the new owner of the B & B is very welcoming and engaging. We enjoyed hearing about hear past work as a diver and her plans for the B & B. She is originally from Trepassey and has always wanted to return.
Central location for Mistaken Point
Jackie is the new owner of this B & B. She provided a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Common areas were great. When we called to say that we would be late she recommended an excellent restaurant on our route in. Breakfasts were fantastic.
Opening Night
Our group was the first to stay in this B & B under Jackie's new management. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and Jackie was an engaging hostess, telling us about her fascinating work history and her plans to develop a travel adventure locale in southern Avalon. We were surprised that there were no choices available for breakfast - not everyone wants bacon and eggs - and the meal was acceptable, but not exceptional. We wish Jackie every success in her new venture under its new name.
Owners are lovely
The owners of this b and b are very lovely. We chatted via email and they gave me a list of things to do and see along the loop which really helped me! When I arrived they told me which light houses to view also which were foggy, but appreciated. My bed was very cozy and I loved the shower. The issue in Trepassey is you can't drink the water, but bottled water was provided. There were lots of people staying when i was, but I didn't hear much noise. I was also in bed by 730pm and up by 5am though so. My only complaint was the breakfast. It was good but not my favourite. More carb heavy (muffins, baked French toast casserole type thing) and some sausages (small beef ones) other than that I'd recommend this place and return.
Beautiful location a must see
Very friendly hosts... took time to visit in the evening and morning. They were very personable and funny which makes for a great experience. Had so much fun in the evening chatting with this lovely couple. Rooms were clean and modern and breakfast was super. At night you could hear a pin drop it was so quiet and the scenery around was beautiful. So glad we found this place. Thanks Bertha and Gerard.
Great stay
Great location, great food! Bertha and her husband were warm and lovely. They made sure we were comfortable and we had great conversation over a delicious breakfast. Just a short drive to nearby attractions on the Irish loop. Great way to experience Newfoundland
Northwest B & B Stay early Sept, 2016
We were most welcomed at arrival by Bertha our hostess and owner of the B & B. Our accomadtions were clean and very comfortable, with a private bathroom. We were able to relax in a lovely living room with other guests enjoying a glass of wine. It made us feel that we were all family members getting together. Breakfast was a very delicious and we sampled local fare with homemade jams. Would return in a heartbeat.
fantastic
Not much that I can add as I have rated this a 5 star. The Breakfast was superb, bed was comfortable and the Host were out of this world! If your are considering this property, please do not hesitate to book it. You'll love it!
Most Positive
Bertha was a very considerate hostess and allowed us to reheat a previous meal and dine in her kitchen. The common room was very comfortable, well lit, warm and inviting. Breakfast was excellent and the bed was most comfortable. Access was convenient.
Excellent B and B
Excellent place to stay in Trepassey. Very clean, and the best of hosts. Having a cup of tea, with cheese and crackers in the evening, while having a chat reminded me of many nights with my Mom and Dad at home. Brewakfast was to die for. Booking again for next year
A very cosy and friendly B & B!
We felt at home right away and were very comfortable taking advantage of the living room to relax and read a bit in the evening. Bertha joined us and gave us so much information about the area that added so much to our time in the area. Her breakfast was amazing! I would highly recommend this home to travellers in the area.
Excellent
The owners were friendly and welcoming and very helpful. lots of suggestions of where to go and what to see. Accommodation was comfortable and well situated on the Irish loop. I liked the way many of the owners of the B & B's knew each other and were able to recommend similar accommodations on our travels!
A Trepassey B & B
Lovely stay, Spacious Room. Terrific breakfast. Engaging, friendly and informative hosts. Close to Mistaken Point United Nations Heritage Site so declared in 2016. Also good stop off point in relation to other to do things on the Avalon Peninsula noted in area tourist information.
Warm Hosts
The Rousells are a very warm and hospitable couple. We were only able to spend one night at their B & B but it was delightful. Breakfast was grand and the facility is spotless. Thoroughly enjoyable! Gerard provided us with a verbal tour and history of the area and as we all know, it's a small world. Their son lives about 15 minutes away from our home in Ontario!
Mistaken point Explore
A wonderful place to end your day drive down the Irish Loop from St John's. Make sure you see the lighthouse in Ferryland and visit Mistaken Point. Book the tour of Mistaken Point well in advance. Also check out the lighthouse in Trepassy. You will feel very much at home in this wonderful BandB. It is very easy to find as it is on the main road.
A hidden gem
This is a hidden gem in trepassey with amazing hosts that go out of their way to welcome us. Thanks for your recommendation to visit both lighthouse near your place. It was worth it for the scenery and the knowledge on the titanic. The breakfast were amazing. The best was the moose strolling through your yard and munching on your flowers. Thanks again for your great hospitality.
Perfect spot for visiting Mistaken Point Unesco Heritage Site
The B & B is lovely but the hosts are what make this place so remarkable. Bertha and Gerard go out of their way to offer information about the area and suggestions to help make the visit memorable. A friend and I recently stayed here two nights and the generosity of our hosts made our time at the B & B fabulous. Advice was offered on places to walk and ways to get around without a car. Both hosts had an insider's knowledge of the area. Breakfast was delicious and portions were generous. The B & B is set up so that it is easy to connect with other travellers.
Lovely Stay on the Irish Loop
A friend and I recently stayed at this B & B on the south end of the Irish Loop for two nights. The B & B is very comfortable, the area is very beautiful, but the best part of staying at The Northwest Lodge B & B is being with Bertha and Gerard. Bertha is a fantastic cook, and a lovely person who looks out for our every need. Gerard was kind enough to accompany us to Mistaken Point and was a fantastic companion. He is from that area and was full of historical information from a personal point of view. The trip was really worth the drive, and Bertha and Gerard couldn't have been better hosts.
Great experience!
What a lovely B & B run by two amazing people! This was our first destination upon arriving to Newfoundland for our first time; we were immediately made to feel welcomed and right at home. It was obvious they loved the area and were eager to tell us about it and help us get the most of it while we were there. The beautiful region and our hosts' friendliness, good food, and overall warm atmosphere made our stay at Northwest Lodge B & B the highlight of our trip.
First time to stay at B & B
We enjoyed out stay very much. The host's were very friendly and helpful. Our room was excellent and access to place was very easy. Breakfast was excellent. Very nice surroundings and easy to find. Would recommend to others.
Marvellous B and B
What a great place to lay your head and then have a marvellous breakfast in the morning. Both Bertha and Gerald were so gracious and nothing seemed too much for them to do. I consider this to be an excellent B and B and would highly recommend it.
Trepassy Northwest B & B
Bertha and Gerald were delightful hosts. Homemade breakfast (Baked French Toast) was awesome. We were only there one night and they made us feel right at home. I would recommend Northwest B & B to my friends.
Great place at the end of the Irish Loop
Bertha and Gerard made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in the door. We stayed two nights and the breakfasts were incredible. They kept us going all day. Bertha and Gerard gave us suggestions on what to see and do in the area as well as telling us about places we were going to. Thank you to both of you for a wonderful stay. Peter and Pam from Alberta
Among the best we've seen. And that's saying something
We agree with previous reviews here: there is really no fault to be found with this accommodation. We stayed there at the end of July on our tour of the Avalon Peninsula. Bertha and Gerard are outgoing, welcoming, and gracious. Their B and B is clean, quiet, spacious, and set on a nicely landscaped country property. Our room was immaculate and comfortable and equipped with a small refrigerator, free wifi, and TV. Private bath, too, which makes a difference. Breakfast was sumptuous, with Newfoundland specialties, and we met interesting people from near and far. You could do a whole lot worse. They feature a large living room or common area and covered porch for hanging out.
Northwest Bed and Breakfast
We loved our stay here. Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating, offering to make us tea after a very long day of travel which was such a treat. Breakfast was large and fantastic. The room was perfect. It's situated close to Mistaken Point, so we explored the following morning.
Amazing!
This place was totally unexpected. Sadly we only had time to stay for one night. Gerard and Bertha are incredible people who welcome you into their home with grace. They truly make you feel at home. The rooms are quiet, VERY clean, well decorated, and extremely comfortable. No expense was saved when they refit the building, it's been done properly with modern touches. Even better, we had to leave by 6am- Bertha still offered to get up early to make sure we had coffee and a meal before we left. Truly gracious. She had yogurt for the road, homemade muffins, and cheese and egg breakfast sandwiches all packed up for us to eat at our convenience. We can't wait to go back!
Lovely stay in Trepassey, Newfoundland
Northwest B & B was a wonderful home away from home. Beth's and Gerard are great hosts and made us welcome. Breakfast was yummy with great conversation. We would recommend Northwest for travellers in Newfoundland-you will be made welcome!
July 2016
We had a wonderful time at Northwest B & B Bertha and Gerard are wonderful we had many laughs. Breakfast was delicious and the rooms are beautiful and comfy beds 😊 we will definitely return to see our irish girl and newfie man 😁
Cozy and comfortable
Stayed over night while exploring the Irish loop. An excellent place to stay if you plan on visiting the world heritage site at mistaken point. Room was clean, comfy, and above all inviting. Breakfast was prepared with care and included local berries picked from out back. I know I'll definitely be back when I'm down that way again!
Best place to stay in Trepassey
If doing the Irish Loop, make sure you stay at Northwest Lodge. 5 rooms, 4 with ensuite bathrooms. Rooms are decent size, clean, good quality bedding. Breakfast menu changes daily - we had homemade toutons (fried bread dough). Comfortable common area, good working internet, small tv in each room, very friendly hosts.
Treasure in trepassy
Lovely home. Very comfortable rooms. Ours had a fridge. Wonderful hosts. Fabulous breakfast. Accommodated our special needs. Felt welcome. Not just a paying guest. Easy to find along the Irish loop. Close to the newly designated UNESCO mistaken point heritage site.
Nice stay
This was a very nice B & B. The room was nice (loved the mini fridge in the room!), the hosts were extremely nice and helpful, and the breakfast was great. We stayed just one night as we were passing through the area, but it was just what we needed.
Great B & B
Thoroughly enjoyed the Northwest Lodge B & B although it was too short, arriving late afternoon and leaving early next day. Hosts were great, very hospitable / knowledgeable of area and breakfast was terrific. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. I would recommend this B & B to anyone staying in Trepassey. I think the only comment I would like to make is to change the TP in washrooms to 2 Ply rather than 1 ply. Less would be used.
northwest BB
Northwest Lodge Bed & Breakfast is beautiful place with with nice and willing owner, Luxury home breakfast with home making jams. We felt there like at home. nicely furnished rooms with a refrigerator and a bathroom and TV, all clean and tidy.
Great hosts, nice rooms, lots to do in the area
Bertha is a wonderful host! She went out of her way - by making several phone calls - to ensure we could get tickets to the local dinner theater event. She also provided lots of advice on other things to do in the area. The facilities were very pleasant and we were welcome to use their kitchen, spacious living room and deck which we took advantage of and ended up meeting other travelers. Lots to do in the area so plan on staying a couple of nights. It's a bit outside of Trepassey so you can't walk to restaurants so taking advantage of their kitchen worked well for us.
Hidden gem!
We stayed one night and wished we had booked a few more nights! It is a small, very well kept place with very friendly staff (Bertha and Gerard- owners) ; we felt like family dropping by for a visit! Excellent and comfortable rooms and a great homemade breakfast to send us on our way! We highly recommend this place
Home Away from Home
If you're looking for a pleasant accommodation that feels like a home away from home, then you need to spend a night with Bertha & Gerard. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. There is a shared living room for use if you want to get out of your room and stretch your legs. This B & B is located in a quiet place with beautiful grounds. And if that doesn't make you want to book it, the full on hot breakfast, handmade and finely detailed by Bertha & Gerard was fabulous, better than a restaurant. This B & B really does feel like a home environment and Bertha and Gerard are very particular about ensuring your stay is a pleasant one. Lovely couple that do whatever they can to make you comfortable. Highly recommend.
Homely stay
Unfortunately, we stayed only for one night. Bertha and Gerard are wonderful Hosts. Their breakfast is excellent. They made us feel at home. Thank you for the delicious Muffins and bananabread. Our room was very nice and tidy.
Trepassey, Newfoundland
Great B & B!!! We really enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended!!!!! The owner operators were very friendly and helpful with appropriate advice. The B & B is located in a very quiet peaceful location in a very nice small community.
Cozy, clean and friendly
The host and hostess where very friendly. The accommodations were immaculate and the food absolutely spectacular. It was a fantastic stay and I would definitely recommend this B & B to anyone traveling near by.
everything was fantastic!
Beautiful home, comfy room, delicious breakfast and welcoming hosts. Was great to have wifi as our phones didn't work outside of St. John's. Would stay here many times over and will be referring family and friends who visit Newfoundland in the future to your B & B. Thank you for a lovely visit!
Bed and Breakfast with Personality Plus
My husband and I were recent guests at this lovely home. Hosts Bertha and Gerard made us feel like family by extending an invitation for a community turkey supper that was being held the evening of our arrival. Bertha picked up the tickets for us and we joined Bertha, Gerard and their friends at a table. It was a lovely evening including local story tellers sharing folk lore and music. The next morning we were treated to a gourmet breakfast of pancakes flavoured with local berries, muffins, preserves, sausage and great coffee! We highly recommend this bob to anyone traveling in the Trepassey area.
Very welcoming, good food, excellent sleep, nice hosts
We arrived on a cold and rainy day, but Bertha's welcome was so warm and inviting, that we felt right at home. Our room was spacious, our ensuite was lovely, and everything was sparkly clean. We even had a small fridge in our room. While chatting & relaxing that evening, Bertha discovered that my husband was very interested in learning how to make toutons, and so the two of them set about making the dough that night. Next morning, we had them for breakfast, served with your choice of molasses or jam - yummy! Gerard is a very nice man, and we really enjoyed his company. He is also an excellent gardener, and the beautiful grounds around the B & B really show off his talents.
Exceeded expectation
Wonderful stay for two in Trepassey after a hike see the ediacaran fossils at Mistaken Point. Bertha, Gerard and Oreo were as gracious as they come. The linens were unbelievably soft (Tranquil Nights brand) and cozy attention to detail meets the eye at every turn. For unrelated reason, we significantly overslept and assumed we missed the breakfast portion of our stay. Bertha and Gerard were kind (and patient) enough to wait for us to wake and still serve us a delicious breakfast after noon! Bertha even catered to our low carb diet with scrambled eggs, sausage and tomatoes. It felt like a visit with family. We will most certainly return!
12 Days of Newfoundland
Our first day ended in Trepassey at this lovely B & B. Reminded me more of a motel than B & B with a separate wing of guest rooms of which most have their own private baths. Great hospitality, spotless comfortable rooms with a hearty breakfast to send us on our way the next morning. Bertha made sure we knew the spots to stop along the way before we left.
Wonderful experience
We stayed one night at this delightful bed and breakfast during our stay in late August in Newfoundland. The room was nicely appointed, large with its own bath. The breakfast was delicious and the hostess even made wonderful crab cakes for dinner for us on the night we arrived (for a very reasonable extra charge). We stayed at several B & B's in Newfoundland but remember this one with especially good feelings. Would recommend it to anyone going through this area of Trepassey.
One of the best B & B's in Newfoundland
Trepassey is off the beaten path, no doubt. We stayed here for 2 nights and had the best time. Bertha and Gerard are fabulous hosts, friendly, helpful and just want you to be as comfortable as possible. Breakfast was fabulous. Dinner is also available if needed. Our bedroom was comfortable, the bed was good. There was a small ensuite bathroom. There are limited plugs, so you may want to consider bringing a power strip for added plugs if you have electronics, cameras to charge. We had to rig up a CPAP far away from a far away outlet. The communal living room was very comfortable and we enjoyed spending time with Bertha and Gerard. There are also outdoor seating areas for guests. We truly came as guests and left as friends. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again There are 2 restaurants in Trepassey, one is at the motel and the other is the First Venture. We ate at the First Venture 2 nights because the food was fabulous and very inexpensive. Of our entire 30 day trip, this was the best fish and chips we have had.. be aware that they do not have a liquor license. We visited St Shotts and St Vincent's beach where we spent hours just watching for Whales and watching the amazing gannets diving for fish. We had just missed the Capelin run by 1 week so only saw 1 whale, but it was a fabulous way to spend the day, talking with the locals and other tourists.
Lovely stay
I had not been down the Southern Shore for 40 years and didn't quite know what to expect. Well our short trip proved to be a wonderful adventure, capped off with a stay in this great little B & B. Food, service and hospitality were all typically and wonderfully Newfoundland. The reception was warm, and the room was very comfortable and clean... and the breakfast was tasty and plentiful. We would highly recommend Northwest Lodge B & B if you are in the Trepassey area. Also Great sunsets.
Where warm hospitality resides
What a warm welcome my husband and I received upon our early arrival. Bertha even though she Was finishing her chores for the next guests, she still found time to serve us tea and delicious muffins. Bertha and Gerald were cozy folks with the talent to make one feel at home. The best was yet to come when happen to find a young bull moose looking back at me through the bathroom window around midnight while eating Bertha's flowers. Not every B & B could offer that experience but, they did. We shared this lovely place with all friends.
Northwest Lodge, Trepassey
This is a small B & B on the Irish Loop in the Avalon region of Newfoundland. The rooms were of an OK size, although some bedrooms did not have ensuite bathrooms - it was necessary to cross the hall to the bathroom. The hosts were friendly and gave us a good breakfast. The rooms close to the kitchen were slightly noisey.
Thanks for such wonderful hospitality!
The B & B was beautiful, the room was spacious. Bertha & Gerard were great hosts making you feel right at home as soon as you step inside the door. Very welcoming and knowledgeable of the area. I especially enjoyed my evening cup of tea, talking and laughing while they cleaned partridge berries! The breakfast was fantastic and very filling. Unfortunately we too did not get to see the moose that frequents their yard but we did have a wonderful time. Definitely not a place to miss if you are in the area.
Great stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Northwest Lodge B & B. Bertha and her husband were very friendly and hospitable hosts. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The breakfast was generous and delicious. We could not have asked for more. We were very lucky in that the restaurant in town that night was hosting a pub night (a fundraiser for a local archeological dig). Think kitchen party on a slighter grander scale. Local talent entertained us with music, ghost stories and poetry. We recommend this B & B highly.
Trepassy's best jewel
We stayed at this B & B June 27 and 28 of 2015. It was a very lovely experience with the friendly hosts:Bertha and Gerard, they made us feel at home specially having Orio (nice pooch) around. House is very clean and lovely, decorated tastefully and is comfortable. Front yard and entrance are welcoming. Breakfast is delicious and well prepared.
Hotel comfort in a warm and welcoming B & B!
Bertha and Gerard were wonderful hosts in their lovely B & B. Two friends and I were travelling in NFLD and stayed at this B & B enroute to see the fossils at Mistaken Point. Bertha phoned ahead to ensure there was space and a tour offered when we would be there. Every little detail was perfect and the rooms were spotless and comfortable. Bertha made us delicious homemade banana bread and blueberry muffins. We enjoyed them so much that she packed us some for the road. Breakfast was fresh and delicious. By far the best B & B of our trip!
Beautiful B & B
Bertha and Gerard do a great job at keeping this B & B clean and comfortable. They are such wonderful, hospitable and helpful hosts and I can see that they've put their heart into running this place. The booking was hassle-free. The B & B is right on hwy 10 so it's really easy to find. I'm especially impressed that each guest room has its own bathroom and bar fridge, and the very generously portioned breakfast. I'd come back to this B & B if I travel to this area again and would recommend to friends.
Very nice, clean, comfortable B & B
Clean roooms ensuite in a quiet place with an excellent breakfast. Bertha and Gerard will give you all the information you need about the region and onward points of interest. Be warned, in the summertime you have to book in advance you are not the only one travellling there.
Newfoundland first visit
Very scenic but make plans to eat at B & B as no restaurants open. Great hosts and excellent breakfast. Watch for moose after dark as they come to road for heat off pavement. Nice drive along Avalon coast.
Exceeded our expectations
The owners and hosts of this lovely B & B are one of a kind and made our stay so enjoyable. The grounds and rooms are so well kept and clean, the beds so comfortable, and the best (hot!) breakfast we had on our trip. Great coffee, lots of laughs, and highly recommended. If travelling the Irish Loop this is the place to stay.
" A fun stopover "
Northwest B & B was a welcome stopover on our Irish Loop tour in late May. Bertha and Gerard were gracious and entertaining hosts, the beds were comfortable and breakfasts plentiful. We had dinner there the first night and in hindsight should have booked a meal for the second night as well. We highly recommend the Northwest B & B and would definitely stay there again. Thanks for the laughs, Bertha and Gerard. Ann & Jack T. and Heather & Art R.
Being at Home
Being with Bertha and Gerard was like coming to you close and beloved relatives. Do you expect such warm reception from strangers? Probably not, but at Northwest Lodge Bed and Breakfast we found excellent conditions and service and extremely nice people. We arrived late when all dinner places were closed, but Bertha and Gerard offered to use their kitchen and give us their famous apricot pie. It was delicious We wish to come back again some day. Thank you, Bertha and Gerard for your warmth and hospitality. Earnest and Lucia Light..
A Must Stay
We had the pleasure of visiting Newfoundland recently and the privilege of staying at Northwest Lodge B & B on our second night. Bertha and Gerry set the standard by which we compared our subsequent B & B experiences. Their hospitality was exceptional. We were warmly greeted on our arrival and offered a most welcomed hot cup of tea and home baked goodies. Our suite was very well appointed, quiet and spotless. The following morning, we were given a hearty send-off with a delicious and most substantial breakfast. I would not hesitate to stay here again should we ever find ourselves back in Trepassey. It certainly is 'a must stay'.
Only sorry we missed the Moose!
We spent a night here in early September and enjoyed the hospitality very much. Everything is clean and fresh. The breakfast was superb and we enjoyed and learned about Bakeapple preserves which Bertha had made - and the jar we purchased in the grocery store to take home was not nearly as good! Trepassy is a great central point to travel back out to Cape Race and Mistaken Point Ecological reserve, and just an interesting community to explore. We did not see it, but a young moose was poking around the parking area the day before!
Trepassey's Little Gem
Bertha and Gerard were one of the high points of our trip to NFLD. They and their B & B were friendly and welcoming, offering clean, comfortable rooms and an ever ready cuppa...... a truly charming oasis on the Irish Loop.
The best B & B in Newfoundland
Bertha and Gerard are super hosts and it is a privilege to stay in this B & B. Clean, cosy rooms; a fridge in the room; a living room to spend spare time, and the best breakfast in Newfoundland. Bertha and Gerard prepare a fantastic diner on request (ask for it during breakfast). I stayed four nights and was completely spoiled by Bertha and Gerard by their care, so it became already difficult for me to leave !
Fantastic!
We had the privilege of staying at the NW Lodge this August. Bertha and Gerard were the best hosts. They were friendly with tremendous sense of humour. The entire lodge was squeaky clean and so comfortable. We were invited to use their living room to relax and we made ourselves comfortable as if it was our own home. We had marvellous breakfasts and we requested dinner with Bertha and Gerard one night. They were happy to oblige. We had one of the most delicious dinners, ever! During our stay at the NW lodge, we met some very fine travellers as well. We definitely recommend Bertha and Gerard's. B & Bs to others. We also hope to visit them again in the future.
Very nice!
Our first stop during our NL trip and a great choice. This is a nicely appointed home with very comfortable rooms and a breakfast to please anyone. Bertha and Gerry's hospitality were the icing on the cake. First class B & B. The restaurant situation in town was a little disappointing, but not the fault of the B & B. It's just a small town with small town limitations. We had supper at the nearby motel's restaurant and were the only diners there. I'd try the other, smaller restaurant in town on the next trip.
excellent
Very nice b & b along the irish loop, clean, quiet, the breakfast was # 1, rooms were nice, queen bed, the back yard was nice to got out a sit and have a cup of tea, bertha and gerard keep up the good work, we enjoyed our stay and would come back again, # 1 thank you
A very pleasant stay
My husband and I had a lovely stay at Northwest. Our room was clean, well appointed, just steps away from the main door of the house providing easy access to our car. It had a lovely view of the garden where birds chirped and bushes flowered. Bertha prepared a dinner for us because we arrived on a Monday and the two restaurants in town were closed. Breakfast was terrific. Overall an excellent stay - Bertha couldn't have done enough for us.
Pleasant Surprise
The patio, the steak and lobster dinner and the very friendly hosts. All helped to make this one of our favorite B & B's. The rooms were cozy and comfortable and the bathroom had all the conveniences necessary. We would definitely stay here again!
Northwest B@B, Trespassey, NL
This is an excellent place to stay. Top quality bedrooms, bathroom facilities. Wonderful breakfast. Dinners can be had for an extra price if desired as eating facilities are 10km away and closed early in evening. Irish lady with a great sense of humour and a Newfie husband, so easy to share conversations with. Best bargain on the road.
Nice and friendly
We stayed in the hotel with for three night during our trip in Newfoundland in August 2012. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly, they're amazing people! The room was clean, bathroom supplied with all necessary things. If I'm in Trepassey once more, I'll definitely stay in this B & B again.
End of the Road - Great B & B
As part three of our vacation in Newfoundland and Labrador, my husband and I stayed three nights at the Northwest Lodge B & B. It had changed hands since we made our booking in March of 2012 and we had heard about this through the grapevine. However, an concerns we had about new owners were quickly put to rest by Bertha and Jerry. This is a very comfortable well-established B & B, located just outside of Trepassey, at the south end of the Irish Loop. The rooms are large and the bathrooms well-appointed. And, while some people may be put off by the funny coloured water (it looks like strong tea), our hosts assured us that it isn't bad to drink, but they provide bottled water in the rooms. Breakfast was very good - and Bertha plans to do a full Irish breakfast complete with potato bread at some point in the future. Sadly Trepassey itself doesn't have much going for it and there are only two places to eat in town - one of which (the motel / restaurant) closes in September. The other place isn't bad, but not great either. I guess you don't go to Trepassey for the food!
This B & B is the Real Deal
This was the first B & B we visited in NL, and so far easily right at the top of the scale. Bertha and Jerry are wonderful hosts. Our room was comfortably sized with a full bathroom. The place is spotless and had all the amenities of a first class hotel. Our breakfast was prepared to perfection and included partridge berry and bakeapple jam. We met the former operator of the B & B, Harold, and his two sons, and spend a great evening exchanging tall tales. This is a great stop on the way to Cape St. Mary's. Some tips: When we were there the motel restaurant was the only one open in Trepassey and will not let you in the dining room unless you are going to be finished eating by 7:00. We did find out that they keep the take out open later and they make the very best fish and chips.
Beautiful B & B and Gracious Hosts!!!
This was originally owned and operated by the lighthouse keeper of the local lighthouse. Six months ago, Bertha and Jerry took ownership and have loved it. They were so welcoming and just made us feel right at home. This is the old traditional style B & B and very clean. Bertha even let me use her own personal computer to do some work. Oreo, their dog, is such a cutie and loveable. Our room had a queen bed and private bath all enclosed in one location. Shower only, no tub. Bed was very comfortable. Had a flat screen TV (not HD) with satellite channel lineup. Breakfast was fantastic!! Fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, toast, yogurt, pastry, and home-made jams from local berries. Coffee was terrific!!! We will probably never pass this way again during our lifetime, but you must stay here when you come this way. You will not be disappointed.
The gold standard of B & Bs
We spent 3 nights here and would have happily stayed longer. Bertha and Gerrard are the most hospitable people on earth, and breakfasts in their home are memorable for the interesting people you meet as well as the delicious food. (If you're like my husband, who isn't really a breakfast person, they'll put some breakfast aside.) They have all sorts of suggestions for local attractions and events. It was thanks to Bertha that we attended a dinner theatre where everything from the script to the music to the actors was homegrown. Gerrard fills in your understanding of the area, being a local boy. Between his stories, his sister's bake apple and partridgeberry jams, and Bertha's kindness and ability to establish warm connections between her guests, this really is the perfect B & B.
