Titanic visit

Very cool place for history buffs. The small building with the history of the lighthouse and wireless archives are worth the drive. The road leading the lighthouse is a small winding road well maintained and is half paved and turns to gravel as you get closer to the facility. It is very windy so dress appropriately. There are bathrooms but no convenience stores.

One of Oldest Lighthouses in Canada

This is one of the oldest lighthouses in Canada, at Cape Pine, near St. Shott's, NL. It was built in 1851, is 300 feet high, and is the first prefab cast iron lighthouse built in NL. Note it has rectangular windows. It is still operational and has to withstand vicious winds. The last keeper told me he encountered winds of 175 kmh during Igor. This is a National Historic Site and worth seeing if you are in the area. No charge, no guide, no keeper.

Down a long gravel road, pretty spot

This is a pretty lighthouse on a secluded point with expansive views of the water. Take a left off Route 10 after Trepassey & head toward St. Shott's. The lighthouse is 20 minutes down a washboard dirt road

Another lighthouse

We were directed here by Jackie at Captain Jack's Northwest B & B. It was very foggy out. We found it from Jackie's directions. This was a gem that we did not plan on, because we did hear of it when we were trip planning. A bit off the beaten path. Due to the fog and time of year, we did not get as much out of the drive because we did not see the structure until we were at the base of it. That is how thick the fog was! The road was bumpy, but for a gravel road, really it was fine. By comparison to Hwy 10 past Trepassey, towards St. Mary's, this gravel road was a gem.

Love this lighthouse!

The last time I was here (about 10 years ago), the lighthouse was rusty and in desperate need of a paint job. Today it looked beautiful. It was windy and chilly but that didn't matter. The scenery is fantastic. The gravel road is in great condition (we drive a mini-van). Well worth a visit if you love lighthouses.

worth the drive

This is a beautiful remote spot along a lovely stretch of coast. Don't be put off by the gravel road. It's in reasonable condition. I drove it in a Toyota Corolla.

Great hiking. Beautiful cliffs

We went on the cliffs down to the water. There were a group of seals sunbathing nearby. Great for a picnic.

Into the wild

Vaut largement le détour. La vue et les paysages environnants sont vraiment superbes et spéciaux. Les plus attentifs seront même récompensés par la vue d'une baleine, ce fut notre cas malgré que ce ne soit pas la période!

An out of the way gem on the Irish Loop!

It is well worth the 8 km drive along a very rocky terrain to get out to this lighthouse. The views are spectacular and there are a number of atv paths that you can hike a long to explore the area further. There is also one grave there which I must find out more about from a local who grew up at this lighthouse.

Wild and wonderful place

Great place to visit - great views - wild nature experience - at the sea... winds... Be prepared for a slow bumpy drive of the pavement - about 9 km... well worth it though
